  1. Root beer, where are you located if you don't mind my asking? Here in Ohio I have not read nor heard anything regarding the oregon or miami scandals for months? Did notknow LSU was involved, but supposedly, Oregon "bought" a player's services from a "handler", and the whole thing has just seemed to quietly go away? Nothing even on ESPN...which still takes every opportunity to mention the Jim Tressel episode every time they mention Ohio State a year and a half later???
  2. I just can't believe how quickly and quietly both the Oregon and University of MIami, Fla...scandals/investigations went away. Makes one wonder.
  3. Have had both. I don't do any really deep cranking, my home lake is maybe 15 feet deep...at least where I can reach. I have owned both reels. While the PQ is a nice reel, and a great value....The Winch is two steps above in my opinion. With the same rod, I was able to cast the Winch probably 8-10 yards farther than the PQ. This is both reels out of the box...no cleaning, no tuning. The Winch is MUCH smoother on the retrieve. Retrieves strike king series 5 crankbaits and rapala DT 14-16 effortlessly. The Winch also has a longer "power" handle to help with this. I like my pro qualifiers, and still use a few of them, but, IMO, they are not in the same class as the Winch. The question of value and how much deep cranking is one you have to answer for yourself. The PQ will certainly get the job done, but the Winch is a better tool...at least in my opinion. Also, if you do decide to go with the PQ, you could send the reel to Mike at DVT and have it serviced. That alone will gain you back most of the differential on the casting distance.
  4. Can anybody tell me what is happening at the University of Oregon? Supposedly they "paid" for a recruit from Texas...Leche Seastrunk I believe, and the NCAA was investigating. Seastrunk's "handler" admitted so much in an interview. I am a buckeye fan, and I realize I have a jaded view, but even today, every time OSU football is mentioned the article seems to find a way to include the fact that Tressel lied and was forced out... as he should have been. If you cheat, you get what you deserve. Wondering why the Oregon story is, has been, or at least seems to me to have been "swooshed" under the carpet? Obvious reference to Nike's money. OSU has been talked about regarding the programs transgressions for well over a year now, and the Oregon situation isn't even news? Same with MIami in Florida? Is this the way folks who may live in the south or west see this? or are these items talked about in your areas daily? Not trying to start an arguement over who did what? just wondering if the folks in oregon and/or florida see these situations on TV daily? I haven't even seen anything on ESPN who will sensationalize any story. Just wondering.
  5. In ANY enforcement of NCAA penalties, LOTS of "innocent" players, coaches, fans share in the discipline handed down. Those are the breaks. This years Ohio State team will not play in a bowl, or for Big Ten championship...no matter how good or bad they perform. Same thing happened at USC, Same thing will happen at Penn State. That's the way it goes.
  6. Sounds like a particular "nasty" fall. Those curbs can be pretty high....
  7. My first fish EVER caught was in the dark...on a jitterbug...about 3 feet in front of me. Scared the bejesus out of me. Been hooked...so to speak...ever since.
  8. Heads up to anyone who may be near the Cabelas in Wheeling.. . They have strike king Red Eye shads for 1.99 , as well as some series 4, 3, 4s crankbaits, and diamond shad lipless cranks for 1.99. . They also have Xcaliber XR25, XR75, and XR100 lipless cranks for 2.99. The Strike king products in particular are a great deal...of course, they now have 25 less red eye shads... I should mention the Red Eye shads seem to be "older" models, in just a few colors...Red, shad, and violet/yellow...but still , for me at least, they are a go to bait and at 1.99, couldn't pass them up.
  9. I have, and use, a mojo bass 7'4" glass crankin rod and love it as well. I do not "feel" as well with it as say the shimano TC4 crankbait rod I had, but I catch fish with it, and once hooked, they RARELY come off. However, I just purchased two shimano cumara crankbait rods, and so far...wow. I have a medium and medium heavy, and both are incredibly sensitive and both have a parabolic bend to them. I have only caught a couple fish with the shimano cumaras, but, so far I really like them as well. At times, I wish I had more hands....
  10. Fantastic shots. Way cool. Thanks for sharing with us.
  11. I have fished with both the pro qualifiers in several different gear ratios, the gold colored carbonlite, and the shimano citica. I think the main difference is the braking system and how they feel in your hand. I prefer the shimano braking system and the shimano E series citica/curado reels feel better in MY hand. The PQ is a fantastic reel and I have no complaints regarding the many I have owned...same goes for the carbonlite. All good reels, on the same level IMO. Go with what feels best to YOU.
  12. between 5 and 6 hours a night. Less on weekends, I have been fishing "overnight" rather than getting up early and heading out. On Friday and Sat night I may leave for the lake at 9-10pm and fish all night....take a nap at 2-3 if needed, and head home by 9-10 am or so....take a nap for an hour or two and go again.
  13. I fish them texas rigged normally, and I have had some success "swimming" them on a slow retrieve and burning them on top...both rigged with a keel weighted swimbait hook.
  14. I like to try the different products. I really, really like the shimano citica 200E7 and the Curado 200E5 & E7...really like how they feel in my hand. I have a couple pro qualiifers, and a couple of the older, gold colored bass pro carbonlites for baitcasters. I do like the shimano stradic spinning reels but have fished with pflueger,,(didn't like), quantum...was ok, and a cabelas tournament ZX that I do like. As far as rods go, I have fished with and enjoyed the cabelas XML series of both casting and spinning rods, as well as offerings from St. Croix, Kistler, and bass pro both casting and spinning. Currently, I have a few Shimano Cumara rods and I really like them. My take....fish what YOU like, are comfortable with, and can afford.
  15. Don't know about any in Fla., however, I have sent reels to both Delaware Valley Tackle (forum sponsor) and RM (stands for one who works on reels) and have been beyond pleased with both.
  16. Just read a story posted on B.A.S.S. master website ...more like Chris Lane's blog. What an impressive young man. Refreshing to listen to him talk about what he feels are his responsibilities to both his sponsors and recreational fisherman who may purchase products he endorses/is endorsed by. Good read.
  17. Sweet ride Goose52, Everytime I see a pic of your canoe rigged up I just think "d**n, that is so cool".
  18. condolences as well. Lost my father about a year and a half ago. Miss him every day. I don't know if that will ever go away. To answer your question, it still stings, and I still have a feeling of emptiness with him being gone. I am 48 years old, and my dad was just shy of 80 when he passed. As Fishing Rhino stated earlier, as time progresses, I have less "sting" and tend to remember the really good times.
  19. I believe the yo-zuri ultra soft #6 breaks at 11.9 lbs. I found a chart that lists the regular yo-zuri hybrid line in the #6 breaking at 12.3 lbs. I use the #6 in ultra soft and really like it. Good luck with your purchase.
  20. Second the positive review. Very good movie. My 11 year old daughter loved it.
  21. That was a really, really nice motorcycle that girl was riding!
  22. sent a few reels to him over the past year. No complaints regarding service, communication. Great guy to deal with. Plus, my citicas that he changed a bushing to a bearing on and cleaned now cast a country mile. the difference in casting distance between the reels cleaned and those fresh out of the box is, I would guess, at least 10 yards. maybe farther. Thanks Mike.
  23. Thanks for the input guys. Any others?
  24. How do you guys "balance" your rods? Anyone have any experience with "the rod balancer" kit??? any input appreciated. Thanks
  25. I think the fact that the colts were so terrible this past season gives an indication of how really, really good Peyton Manning is. The Colts are gonna miss him. He could read defenses extraordinarily well, got rid of the ball quickly to hide a horrible offensive (and I mean OFFENSIVE) line, and got the colts into plays to take advantage of what the defense was doing. Although everyone will have differing opinions, I think he is the best football player of his era...in as much as he has done way more with way less.
