I write just 1 line about each trip which will include date,lake, guest,astro table #, sky & wind conditions, # & type fish caught (w/lengths of all over 14"), and actual time on the water. In the early spring and late fall i include water temp. Most occasions i note what the "big" fish bit, or how busy the lake was. I've been doing this since 1999, AND I WISHED I STARTED IN 1975.

My favorite frog fishing technique starts with a 5wt. fly-rod outfit with a 2# test leader and a size 14 woolybugger. Lily pads are a great place to start, but don't forget the reeds or undercut shorelines. Listen for them, but if you don't hear them, it doesn't mean that they are not there. You don't have to sneak up on them (they don't scare easily), but i always think that a quiet approach is better than a noisy one. Anyways, i keep my roll-casts relatively short so i can see the frog attack the lil' bugger, and don't set the hook too hard, just an easy lift (like a dropshot set) and the fight is on!! It's a crazy fight if you foul-hook them in the leg.....

I don't remember who made it (anybody know?), but i use to have a rattle bait that you passed your line through the body, and then tied on your treble. (there were no hook eyes) I would use a feathered treble with a pc. of splitshot right above the knot, and with pauses and jerks that hook would drop about 5" and then jerk back up to the body. It looked cool and caught a few bass. Then a pike bit the treble and broke the line, and i lost the body. Anyways, i find no difference on my surface baits, and i have a few jerks with a small white feather...
