  1. A 19 year old was finally located on Ray Hubbard after nearly a month in the water. The three were thrown out of a jon boat by a wave(?), two stayed with the boat and were rescued. The one lost tried to swim to shore. None were wearing life jackets. The two survivors became disorientd as to where the third went down. They finally found the body using a Hummingbird SI unit 500 yards from the site searched. WEAR YOUR LIFEJACKETS and STAY WITH THE BOAT! Sorry for your loss, prayers sent to all involved.
  2. Lots of them on all our lakes and creeks. Normanally you will not see most unless you get into the backs of the creeks or up the rivers. They are no problem unless you start pressuring them or jacking with them. Then they will either sink down or move away. The smaller ones seem to have no fear of a boat(Yet) and will destroy a buzzbait. We have actually had a young one(1 1/2 ft) on Lake Livingston set up under the bow of the boat and race out to attack a surface lure. Problem here would be worrying about the mother and where she might be. Never had a problem with a gator. Snakes thought are another issue. Have had to fight several off that attempted to climb into the boat over the years.
  3. Just love that Big-12 record. They have become the WAC of the midwest. Football east of the Big-12 is played on a whole nother level... I'm sure I'm biased, but the crowds and game just appear to be(Weekin and weekout) a better enjoyment package. You won't understand unless you have attended SEC ballgames.
  4. I sold one on this site Monday for 115.00 inc. shipping. I see why it sold so quick now.
  5. No, read the above post.
  6. Go to the first break, hunt clear water, cover lots of water. The fish will let you know. Been years since I have been on the lake. There is a major cove on the north end that has a very well defined roadbed running across it. Find it and let me know if those big spots are still stacked up off the main lake side. They use to stack up just off the first cut in about 15' of water this time of year.
  7. It's no secret that red is the color down here(At least it is on Rayburn). All the talk is that it matches the color of the crawfish in this area. Our craws on rayburn are a dark reddish color during the full moon and a greenish red on the new moon(At least that's what I hear). Again this is dock talk so I am going to quit here other than to say that lots of big tournaments are won this time of year fishing the rayburn red, orange, and/or several other local reddish colors that always produce in 4-8 ft of water. Water temps can be in the high 40s and low to mid 50s and you cannot crank it fast enough to keep it away from them. At times they will almost rip the rod from your hands. There is another color called a browneye that you cannot buy anymore that catches a ton of fish also. It is a light golden color with a dark back and a large brown spot around the eye. I catch about as many on it as the reds. Good luck
  8. Not paint, but I use a silver leaf kit purchased at our local art supply store. Made by Delta and is called Renaissance Foil. It works for me and does not cost and arm or leg. Complete kit that includes the base coat, adhesive, sealer, and even the antique if you are interested. Cost about 12.00 and has enough material to cover twenty lures at least. For grins I tried the antique on several and they look very lifelike in the water. The fracture seems to help deflect light and one is allready in my favorites box.
  9. Oil fell 5.85 over news the nations reserve was up over 6 million gallons. They were expecting a jump of over 1.5 million gallons when in fact it was over the 6 million mark. Guess there are a lot more people riding bikes than thought. Gas here has increased to the mid 1.50s in the last week, but fell .08 overnight.
  10. Here ya go Muddy: 6 neck surgeries(4 front-2in the back)(3 plates & 12 screws) Rt. Shoulder(2X) Both knees Rt. elbow R. hip(Three screws) Now ask Catt if I can stand in the boat all day.
  11. When the lakes look like that it is time to take pictures, walk, and gps as many spots as possible. It will be worth it.
  12. Got lucky and was picked as one of the five December winners for a 100.00 gift certificate from the retailer of my choice. Annual drawing is for a grand and will be held February 09, 2009. Never won a thing in my life. Now if it could only be the lotto.
  13. Map study, and lots of it. I try to find the water that lets me fish the way I like. Google earth is a big help also.
  14. I fish the Allstars by choice. They are no where near the best on the market. They do what I want when, I like their feel, and for the price I can own a lot more.
  15. No boat needed if you are in this area. Back or front always has room for another. Let us know
  16. Minnkota makes a fluid that you can add to batteries that they SAY will bring them back to life. I saw it yesterday at a Academy store and it was located with the TM parts. Have never used it and do not know anyone that has. Might be worth researching though. I am not far from the store so I could get you the name if you like. Best I remember you add a 1/4 oz to each cell. Price was around 12.00. Again, have never used this product.
  17. There is an autographed copy of Buck's Spoonplugging on ebay that ends tonight. It was sitting at about 10.00 yesterday afternoon. I loaned my copy of Buck's Structue fishing out to my son a while back and have not seen it since. Gonna have to replace it. Well it's up to 27.50 this morning. Found a 1979 reprint on ebay this morning. Unsigned with a buy it now price of 12.71
  18. By fishing, what else. It is prime time down here. Highs been in high 70s (79 yesterday), (Cooler this morning) with lows in the high 40s to low 50s.
  19. Got an arse chewing from the wife. Thanks Glenn, wife just chewed me out for clearing all the site history. Probably had one coming anyway, been a few days.
