Yes, the ones I use now are molded on but there are pinch weights made for hooks as well. Not sure of the brand names though. Big O

I have been fishing big worms on keelweighted hooks recently and the action on the fall is remarkable, both on worm action as well as fish catching action. Using this set up in all water depths with good results. The worm body falls parallel and the tail wags along above the body on the fall. In my opinion, the curl tail worms are best for this presentation and in deeper water it slows you down a bit but is great for fishing deep grass and open water grass pockets without grabbing too much salad in the process. Just slowly swimming the bait over the grass then letting it wag down in the pockets. Also found that in the deep grass, ripping it up and letting it fall works well too. It's a slow methodical style of fishing but the results are impressive. Big O

Hey Catt, that is great information and glad you pointed that out because my understanding is from surveys of actual colored objects in the variety of light conditions. When in the varying water depths it would seem that your info would translate the same to colored objects since the color is reflected, or is it only to the actual color of a transmitted light. Removed the term spectrum from the previous post, maybe it is more correct. A bit confusing and hope this isn't off the thread topic too much! Big O

The color mix black and blue is an all time favorite for jigs as well as many other style baits. And works extremely well in a variety of water clarity. Important to know that blue is the first color to disappear as light levels decrease. The blues will turn to grays. If the blue is translucent (see through) then it will lose it's silhouette factor easier than a thick or heavy blue. Back in the day, I experimented with so many colors and in every type of water and have settled on a few standards that I keep in mind with color choices. Clear-light day, shallow-clear water use light colors and or clear baits (less visible). Adjust accordingly to light and water conditions until dark conditions = dark baits. Now, over the last 15 years, I have been confined to night fishing due to the ill effects of the sun, and have noticed that the additional flash that bright colored flakes (not too much) in the soft plastic bait and or jig skirt (especially red and/or green) produces that little extra sight factor advantage during dark conditions. Yes they are, and in most lakes they are relatively easy to locate as well. This is one of the best times of the year to catch some of your bigger fish of the entire year. Many think that just because the spawn is over, woe is me, but this in my opinion, is "Game On". The post spawners are now in feed mode getting themselves back in to shape for the Summer swing. You can find them off the end of the spawning areas on deeper points and in grass or small ditches, any where close to structure objects near some of the deeper open water. Heck, in 07 my biggest of the year 13.40 came in May from areas typical to this and she and many other big fish were gorging on shad and craws. This is one of the best and most predictable patterns for us to pick up on right now and there are really no bad choices of lures to use as well, just throw a variety of styles of baits till they start eat'in one in particular. So get your rods ready and hooks sharpened up and go set a personal best on a Big Ole Pig on a big ole jig Anyone else using a similar pattern or have a favorite bait to catch'em on this time of year that you would like to let us know about? Made about 5 trips there in years past and remember when this style or design first got going. Maybe next time I go, I need to chase them down. Haven't heard how effective they are with the bass here but will ck around for info. Big O

You mentioned that you are tired of using plastic worms but have you used flukes? Hard to get tired of these unless you get tired of catching bass on them too. Big O

Clear water - lighter greens and browns using translucent trailers like watermelon red, red bug, and often dip for Chartreuse tips. Greenpumpkin/Peanut butter as well as Green Pumpkin/Chartreuse are old standbys too. I am kinda stuck on Green/Pumpkin skirt with flash of brown and purple using a green pumpkin trailer much like my avatar photo for mid range water colors. For darker, stained or cloudy water I like blacks, dark browns and deep berry red colors and similar color trailers. Big O www.ragetail.com

Hey Aggie Bassman, the other color is called Smokey Shad and it's one of my farorites. New colors coming out this Fall but I'm not sure what they are. Sk pros are picking them. Sounds good to me. Just gives me more to choose from. Big O

For worms I like the the standard owner style offset hook over the wide gap hooks for more slender style and gets thru the grass a bit easier Big O

I haven't found any that I don't like and have had pretty good luck on all brands I've tried. Big O

Catch your drift Pond Hopper. Sometimes one of these bags of soft baits get smashed up a bit from shipping and handling and need a little attention. This is tough to control but I'm working on it. We all have gone into the stores and reviewed the baits on the shelf and all of us like to feel the baits. Heck that's part of the fun in buying softy's and most of us do our best to place them back like we found them, but some baits won't get placed back exactly correct and even these still work fine most of the time. It is important to know that the longer you fish one of these Rage Shad, the tail will loosen up a bit and the hotter the weather, water etc. the softer the plastic becomes and the more subtle the tail action becomes as well. Hopes this info helps. Big O
