If you're holding it to the right of the blue line, in the crease of your joint, there's your problem. Thinner, softer skin with none of the friction surface that's on the pad of your index finger, where the line should be resting. If braid or even mono slips through there, it'll cut you quick, and it'll hurt. So yeah, you're doing it wrong.

X2 on what he just said. For bass, you're going to have to fish the Little Pigeon through Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, or the Little River through Townsend. Find a bridge and start from there. Little River Outfitters is the fly shop he's referring to above, AWESOME shop. I'd bring M at the heaviest. Lower Abrams creek where it dumps into Chilhowee (i think) Reservoir also has some good smallmouth. If you make it over to Douglas or Ft Loudon/Tellico, you can find some decent fishing at alot of the public access points or hire a guide. If it were me, I'd bring a ML, some trick worms and roostertails, and go for smallies around sevierville/pigeon forge. You'll hit a few trout too, but the smallie fishing is pretty good for 1-3 lb fish.

That's exactly what I'm saying; you drive past many as good or better fisheries, why waste the gas?

Freedom of the press is fine and a necessary thing, but with that freedom usually comes the burden of accuracy. If these bloggers and gossip types want to be treated as classic press, they bear that burden. I usually have no problem with freedom of the press (except when it puts someone in danger), but there is no need to start or extend unfounded rumint. Just my opinion.

I would be careful in taking that advice at face value, and you drive by several great options on the way.

They grow about the same rate of most fish, so I would stick to the advisories for other fish on the Potomac. The do like the backwater areas where sediments collect so they may get increased levels that way as well. I would stick to eating the smaller ones or limit the amount of the larger ones I eat. I think catching the larger ones is the limiting factor for me.

Maybe they got their QC people from GM?

I'd use a 7 ft or above MH, fast action rod with something around 20 lb braid instead of mono if you're going to be using it out of a kayak. The smaller diameter and suppleness will ideally give you longer casts and the lack of stretch makes getting a solid hookset in the yak a little easier. I'm sure alot of people will disagree with using braid that light on a bc. I'd also use a fluoro leader at about 12 lb test. If you get a slower action rod, certainly do the braid to make up for that softness. In fact, that may be the best combo, braid with a MH moderate rod. You'll get some more distance out of teh mod action and the braid will solidify the hookset. J Franco fishes alot out of yaks so he may have some good points here.

Being from there, I have some experience and unique knowledge with this. They don't sell them because the nearest saltwater is approximately 400 miles away. The few people that do drive that far for saltwater tackle are too dumb to notice the other tackle stores closer to the ocean, and generally fish with spinning reels on top anyway. I'd say try online.

Well as an update, they replaced it. I sent it in three weeks ago and got a new 7'6" Cielo yesterday. They were moving right as they got the rod and apologized for it taking so long. It was a good experience all around. I sent an honest letter in with it about how the break happened; it wasn't a defect, more of a one in a million coincidence of space and time.

I'm still not getting why you guys want a stiffer braid. I thought the limpness was part of the point.

I was fishing Lake Calderwood,one of the "Finger Lakes of the Smokies" in a kayak when a storm rolled in. My after a cast, the slack line actually went up and kind of suspended in the air. My carbon fiber paddle was also giving off a slight hum, as were my spare rods in their holders. I made for shore and found a nice little cave-like overhang, made a little fire and had lunch while the squall blew through. Freaked me out pretty bad though.

I fish it weightless on a 4/0 superline hook and swim it like a soft plastic frog over any cover. I also use the used ones a jig trailers. Really the only RT bait I've had much luck with, but I've had some great luck with it.

Is that a "wait and see" how long it takes carrol to jump ship when they're 1 and 7?

I have the two piece Cabelas Mag Touch rod in the MH model and really like it. Casts well, good sensitivity for soft plastics, and I actually like the handle better than any of my other rods. You could wait until they go on sale which should be any day now.

I wouldn't do McMillian without an escort. Although you may get a body out of there. My wife and I have had good success in the canal, mostly early and late and on stormy days. Good things are flipping plastics into the brush when the sun os up and topwaters (we likle buzzbaits) early and late. Spinnerbaits are always useful. Rent a rowboat if you want to have a good day of flipping. You could also fish down Haynes Point along the stone shore walls. Jigs around the broken spots will take lmb and some noce smallies. Lots of places to fish in DC without crossing the river.

Go to Fletcher's Boathouse, buy your license there, and then fish the canal and the Chain Bridge area. Easy walking and plenty of room. You can toss a decent cast across the canal, but it's got some decent bass. The area around Chain Bridge you could catch just about anything, striper, snakehead, smb, lmb, walleye, crappie, yellow perch, white perch, gar, blue cats, channel cats, panfish, shad, and an occasional musky. Did I miss anything in that list guys?

So to actually try to help: Topwater (I like spooks and spook jr's in baby bass or buzzbaits) is good early before the sun starts touching the ater, and late when it comes off. Alot of fish will be deeper during the day right now so you can try to fish crankbaits or slow roll spinnerbaits deep around the bridges and contours. If you have electronics, use them to find structure. There are also a considerable number of boat docks to pitch and skip to, as well as work with shallow cranks and spinnerbaits. It really helps to work the docks from deep to shallow and vice versa with a few different techniques (j&p, shallow crank, spinnerbait, skipped soft plastic) until you find what the fish might be doing that day or if there's some cover within the structure.
