  1. I am a member only because some tourneys I fish require B.A.S.S. membership. The magazine is worthless.
  2. Little one that is just a beauty!! Biggest 6.4 A few others!
  3. Practice for tourneys and honing skills makes you a better angler. Period! IMHO.
  4. Happens to largemouth too. Not sure of the cause! Sun beaten carpet nice fish NOT GOOD!!!
  5. Thanks Leo!! I surely would love to make it over but I am having a tough time making it up to the big lake 30 miles away lately. I went on vacation and since I came back I have been having trouble dragging my butt out of bed on these chilly mornings. I know it would be worth it though!!
  6. Great day!! I really love the Upper Allegheny! Beautiful country and great fish!! Some of the Upper pools are too cool with the car and garage sized boulders. I didn't make it over there this year and wish now wished I did!!
  7. We have already had snow on the ground here in 0hio, as much as three to four inches in some areas. The forecast is looking good for this weekend and I am gonna try to make it out Sunday, for some cold water bassin. Sorry about my hiatus I was on vacation in Florida and had a ton of things to get done when I got back. but the topics are still the same as when I left. I will fish til ice over and love fishing cold!!! Thats Ohio baby!!!!
  8. I totally agree Bass fishing to me is artificial lures ONLY. When wifey or my daughter want to catch panfish we will use maggots, waxworms, redworms. And for Carp which the wife likes to catch just a plain ole generic can of corn.
  9. The Ohio record is 13lbs 13oz. 26 1/16 inches long caught in 1976.
  10. When the launch ramps freeze over!

    Largemouth 6lb. 8oz. Smallmouth 6lb. 4oz.
  12. We catch steelhead in erie. I hooked up on maybe a new state record but it came loose 5 feet from the boat. Even lake Erie steelhead are true fighters. 1# in my book for freshwater.
  13. I chose 60-80 personally. My brother in law fishing with me matched that for a boat total problably 150+.
  14. I will be going to Discovery Cove FL. Oct 11-17. can anyone tell me if there are any nearby shore fishing opportunities. I Googled the area and there are hundreds of ponds and small lakes. I will have limited time. Mainly before the wife and daughter wake up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated guys. Thanks in advance!! Jay
  15. IMO the best and you can get exactly what you need. They will help you decide whats best for you.
  16. Steelhead sre some bad a** SOBs . Very very powerful and acrobatic. since the only salt I have ever been close to was the Taunton River in Mass and I caught nothing. I have no expierience in salt and can't comment there But I have never battled anything having the power, acrobatics, speed, or willpower of a 15 lb steelhead. Freshwater drum are some tough dudes too just annoying during tournies.
  17. If I fish for a half hour and don't get a bite I move or change presentations. I use the basic colors on a wide variety of waters, from dark to clear. I use my favorite colors and don't expieriment much. Never seem to have much trouble catching fish. My last year in my old club I use only 4 baits, never changing colors and finished #1 out of 30.
  18. You need to read about knots. The Palomar has almost 100% test strength and is very fast and easy to tie. The Double Palomar is the best for braid. These are the only knots you need for terminal tackle.
  19. Dude those are hanging fish!
  20. My boat has storage boxes designed to fit 3700 size boxes. When I fish from another boat I have a plano bag that I put a few boxes of tackle I expect to use in and, the exterior pockets are filled with extra hooks, line and other little items. When I fish from shore I take only what I can fit in my cargo shorts.
  21. Funny I just asked about these bad boys on another thread and came here and saw this thread. Cool fish!!!
  22. The question is "pound for pound". I assure you, a five or six lb smallmouth is more "solid weight" than a comparable green fish. 8-) I think what Tony is meaning is that largemouth tend to bulldog more and smallies will not always keep tension on your line. Seems to me that green fish just want to escape without putting on a show, while the smallmouth are like "check this out" while jumping and running around. I catch fair numbers of both every year and they are just different. That being said has anyone ever caught a MEANMOUTH? I believe it is a smallie spot hybrid. Now that is what I would think to be a fighter!! We catch spots in the Ohio river but, I have never had one over two pounds.
  23. You are also blessed with a great sense of humor! I am pretty sure he will be able to pick up the funny side of our posts.
  24. A 2lb smallie will feel like a 2lb smallie. It is a completely different fight!
