The single best FFS conversation/debate I've heard.....Josh Jones on the Bilge Podcast
Very Interesting. Really looking forward to seeing where B.A.S.S ends up on this one. Did they just open the door ? Or is it more like quoting Rick Nelson, late American Musician; "you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself". A-Jay ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

12 Oct 23 ~ Fall Crankbait bite
We've had like 6 days of cold rain here, followed by 6 more days of cold wind & rain. You get the picture. Started to clear out yesterday afternoon. I had the Old Town canoe rigged & ready, just waiting for the weather to break. Well, I went all in yesterday at 2pm, looking for a sunset bite at Lake Minichuck. Surprise, I was a bit premature because all I got was more cold wind and rain. Not a fun deal in the canoe. Stuck it out all the way to dark hoping against hope that "Wild America" would subside. It didn't and I went home fishless and with my tail squarely between my legs. Woke up this morning with a refreshed attitude as the bogusness had bailed and what was out there now was reasonably fishable. So I headed out for the redemption tour. Arrived mid morning. Nice. Water temps in the mid 50's and super clean/crazy good visibility. Turnover's close and I'm not a fan of fishing that deal. But this was not that. Situation screamed crankbait to me so I locked one in my hand and went to work. The reward was most decent as the smallies seemed very cooperative. The sporadic wind, sun & clouds wasn't hurting the bite at all and I managed to put a several respectable fatties in the net. All & all, I'll take it. Hope to get back out on bigger water again soon but the canoe trips are always fun (when it's not raining) and bring me back to my roots. ^^^ SK 3XD "Baby Carp" Fish Hard A-Jay

Website acting odd or my iPhone
Yes, I am. Sluggish. None of the regular 'clean outs' seem to be helping me either. I'm on a PC today. A-Jay

favorite winter pants
The Northern Michigan version of winter pants is 3 or 4 layers of pants; as required. First 3 are usually Columbia Omni-Heat base layer Merlino wool second layer and then flannel lined jeans. For the crazy 'hell' cold and or wet deals Third layer is loose fleece and then insulated bibbs. Hard water is fairly prevalent here in winter, so fishing in the colder stuff I'm relegated to early and late season, so spring & fall. First to layers above plus the Simms Challenger Insulated Bibbs & Jacket are very good. A-Jay

Thoughts on Fishing when you are old and tired...
So many inspirational role models in this thread. I'm 64 and have limitations; mentally & physically. Once something goes onto the 'I can't do that anymore' list, it's mostly a permanent deal. Then there's the, "I think I can, but it might not be a good idea' list. At least half the time, I do it any way. That one's burned me a few times too. Less recently however. Here's to having good days. A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
After a mini 3 day de-load, I am back at it. Revamped my training to be more of a Total Body deal, and I'm using a 4 day spit to get it done. Eased into the first one this morning by completing two working sets and I'm showing that here. As always, I take a day off between each training day. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

Biggest Bass of 2023 ~ What Bait ?
So, I'm bringing this one back so that I can put a cap on it one way or the other. In the OP, My Pick to Click for the biggest brown bass this season was the Z-Man Mini Max Chatterbait with a Goby swimbait trailer. Hasn't happened yet and I've been fishing it with due diligence mostly all season. Also in the OP I said that if I selected a jerkbait, it would be low hanging fruit. Well, I am officially a knucklehead (but you already knew that). Because my second bass of the season is, so far, my biggest. Bet you can guess what she ate . . . .wait for it . . . . A Megabass Vision 110 silent jerkbait. She was 6.06 lbs of bronze exquisiteness Either way history indicates that I've got something like 3 maybe 4 weeks of fishable conditions ahead of me. And in order to top that beauty I'll probably need to be on bigger water. Late season that can get a little sketchy. We'll see how it goes as I'm still keeping the faith. Day after tomorrow looks like my next fishing day, but I'm planning on switching gears and going back to my roots. I'll be fishing Lake Minichuck out of the Old Town Canoe. Should be fun. Can I catch lightning in a bottle ? More to follow . . . . Fish Hard A-Jay

late in the day fall smallies
Early morning here all year is good for brown bass. Late afternoon is as well and it seems both are the deal this time of year. Mid day can be tough sledding. I'll often choose one or the other. Unless I'm up for the fishless marathon that often happens between the two. Fish can be scattered at those temps here. Once water temps get closer to 50 in the 'fall', I focus on deeper haunts. Good Luck A-Jay

Braid mainline to braid leader knot?
Not landing that a Giant Bass, while always a bummer, might have more to do with your overall tackle selection than what knot was used. I use spinning gear and a FC leader all the time to land stout brown bass. However I'm almost always in mostly open water. When targeting giant largemouth in the immediate vicinity of hard or soft cover, I try to match my tackle to the biggest fish I hope to catch. Rarely does that happen with spinning gear for me. I am often over gunned for most every small fish I might catch, however I stand a much better chance of landing 'The One' I'm really looking for. Finally, while I effectively use a uni-to uni for leader connections and have been for a long time, there are several connection knots that 'work' well. Especially when connecting lures to line / tackle with the horse power to help keep that big girl from getting into that laydown in the first place. Good Luck. A-Jay

What did you accomplish?
Through a myriad of life's challenges, I managed to come out on the other side mostly OK. I stayed true to myself and hope to continue that deal to the bitter end. As for my 'Bass Fishing Goal's' for 2023, Well, there's always next year. A-Jay
