Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ A-Jay
  2. Think about how long a big pikes head is, and then at least half that length again to account for it's throat should it swallow a bait. I use something close to 20-24 inches and I'm NOT Targeting pike. This is for bass fishing. Casting can be a little different because I do not want the wire connection knot zipping through the guides on the cast. So you may need to find some balance there - length vs effective casting. But I will say, that if there are actually 40 plus inch pike in the waters you are fishing, 6, 8, and 12 inch leaders are not what I would chose. Mostly for the reasons mentioned above. The two biggest musky I've ever landed ate baits that had NO Leader. One on 10 FC the other was 15 lb. FC. Total luck IMO. I've lost hundreds of $$$ in baits to much smaller fish because I didn't pre-rig with wire first.\ Someday I'll learn. I know many anglers who have success using Heavy FC. And if I was targeting pike I might try that. But I'm bass fishing, so the thin wire still gets me bass bites and when a pike eats the bait, I get them too. YMMV A-Jay
  3. And now there's this ~ RECALL on the engine ! As it stands, my rig run great. However it seems like it could be a ticking time bomb. Not what I'm paying for. Did way too much 'research" on this recall and it doesn't seem like GM wants to publish the VIN's of the effected rigs. So it's a hit or miss deal. GM "SAYS" it only effects 3% of the engines produced during that time. If they know that, tell us which ones ! Current plan is to drive it like I stole it. If it blows up, the dealer told me I can drive 'something else' until they can replace mine with a new motor. As of now, there ARE NO NEW MOTORS laying around. Not wanting to even go there. If I could dump it today I would. In case anyone's wondering currently, I love this truck quite a bit less. A-Jay like I need this on my plate Product Safety Recall L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion Released: 2025-04-24 GM Program # N252494000 Status Incomplete. Remedy not available NHTSA 25V274 Date Issued: 2025-04-24 Description General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 2021 – 2024 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with the 6.2L V8 gas engine (RPO L87). The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components in these vehicles may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure. Safety Risk Description If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. Repair Description Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the engine. Vehicles that pass inspection will be provided a higher viscosity oil, which will also require a new oil fill cap, an oil filter replacement, and an owner’s manual insert.
  4. You might make it but will your luggage ? We ALWAYS stay over night in Dallas and fly out the next morning. This way our bags can catch up with us. We do that both ways. Adds a day, some $$$ for a hotel and we leave home a day earlier. But at least we get to fish with our own tackle and wear our own under pants while in Mexico. There's no Walmart in the Mexican mountains Good Luck A-Jay
  5. Super pretty place right there with some killer bass. Thank you for sharing your trip Congrats. A-Jay

  7. Workout Day 2. Starting off with an elevated step back lunge always sets the tone and gets me into the training right away. #borninfiftynine A-Jay
  8. Just a little shy of that. Video replay below if you're so inclined. https://youtu.be/c8ncmrbV3-M?feature=shared A-Jay

  10. Mostly Africa Hot here the past few days. Went ahead and took advantage of it by baking a nice juicy lasagna in the mailbox. Came out pretty good. Temp seem Better today. 🧑‍🍳 A-Jay
  11. I have & use my rigs installed electronics. They are not the latest & greatest. More like slightly out dated, especially by todays standards. List includes HELIX CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G4N, HELIX CHIRP MEGA DI GPS G4N, the original AS 360. In my fishing, the precision GPS and Lakemaster mapping is By Far the most used aspects of this deal. As for How much has electronics changed my fishing? It's helped me eliminate water, and the bigger the water, the more there is to eliminate. It has also helped to point me in the right direction so I could locate a few incredible areas that have produced some real trophies for me. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/256230-lund-1875-pro-v-bass-electronic-replacement-~/ A-Jay
  12. Disregard my last. I made a new plan. Hope it works A-Jay

  14. Congrats on the New Personal Best Bass And she's a Beauty for sure. Only a matter of time before that 6er hit your scale. Nicely Done. A-Jay
  15. @casts_by_fly nailed it. I add a couple of 'helpful' items to each rig as well. A rod sleeve and a lure wrap. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Stick_Jacket_PRO_Series_Casting/descpage-SJPSC.html https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Stick_Jacket_Plug_Jackets_/descpage-SJPJ.html A-Jay
  16. You beat me to it Tom-2.0 ! Or pick up a few extra spools. Then just load what you need, when you need it, without changing reels or spooling line. I do it with spinning reels all the time which prompted me to bring it into the cast reel plan as well. A-Jay
  17. Completed Workout Day 1 right here. Who knew 65 could be such a fun age. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

OK, however I was not suggesting that the switcheroo is something for YOU to consider. I passed it along as a example of something that may come into play during trade in or resale. Long Break. A-Jay
  19. Thank you for that. And I get it, sounds like it makes the event easier on the angler. Like cruise control in my truck and I use that all the time. However, it doesn't make me a better driver. I my mind, there is not a TM on this planet that can operate a unit and anticipate subtle moves that need to be made (or not made) while fishing, on it's own, better than an experienced operator. Not sure I could be content with 'pretty close'. I do not fish in rivers, which might have me singing a different tune. btw, I don't own anything 'cordless' either. Man, I might need to get with the times. Fish Hard 😎 A-Jay

My GMC dealer is always more than willing to move my cap onto the next/new truck. In his experience they sell better without the cap. Does surprise me a little, especially since mine are always mint and this is the Snow Belt ! A-Jay
  21. I still run the old tried & true Fortrex. Going on nine years now. While I can certainly see where a spotlock could change some things, I just have a hard time ripping off a perfectly good unit simply for a single feature. If I wasn't getting a few, that'd be one thing. But I bump into one a two every now & then. If It croaks I'd seriously consider it. But until then, I'll keep doing left legged pedal dance. A-Jay
  22. The fish I am targeting late summer seem to be coming in as the weeds begin to die back. This makes the perch & crayfish a little vulnerable. With less cover to hide in they often have to relocate to find some. The big brown bass count on that and are waiting for them, knife & fork in hand (in a manner of speaking). So none of those weeds are dying back until at least Aug most years. That makes July a non fishing but tackle prep time for this basshead. Besides, July is when the marine circus comes to town. And I hate clowns. 🤡 A-Jay
  23. Hope you're doing OK. Might mean Lynn & I should be floating around Lake Minichuck early that morning. A-Jay
