Beginner tips for smallmouth bass
Thanks @10,000 lakes Bassin @Calvin123 There are so many great smallmouth anglers on this site it's sort of staggering. Each with their own style, plenty of experience & tons of success. I am fishing for smallies the majority of my time on the water. Sometimes I get a few. Targeting smallies from the bank can be a little tricky. Totally possible but IME, Smallmouth do not relate super close to the shoreline nearly as much as largemouth bass do. As for some tips you asked for, fishing topwater early & late in the day can be good from the bank. There's quite a bit more info in the link provided below. Coming up on 7 years worth. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/211811-brown-bass-tools-~-questions-answers/ Good Luck. A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
After a couple of days off and a day on the water, I hammered out Workout Day 5. In my mind, this life style might not be totally about adding years to my life but more like adding life to my years. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

Supreme Ultimate bunks
I have an 18 ft aluminum Lund that I launch & recover Solo 99% of the time. Replaced carpeted bunks with the composite units, think it's been 5 years now. I have no complaints. I will say that EVERYTIME before I load my rig on the trailer, I wipe the bunks completely clean with copious amounts of 303 Products Aerospace Protectant Spray. I buy the gallon size and use it in other applications as well. (I keep Micro Fiber Rags & the Spray bottle in my truck) Bunks sit in the sun all day while I'm on the water. They also collect all kinds of debris (grit, grime. sand, you name it.) So does carpet but we just don't see it. Dunking the trailer bunks does make them wet, but has little to no cleaning effect. Wiping off the composite bunks EVERYTIME before I put the boat on the trailer, cleans & protects them. Boat slides on & off very nicely. Good Luck A-Jay https://youtu.be/h3kMaYvtQOE?feature=shared

Coping with chronic heart ache ~
It's been a minute since I've added anything here. That's usually a good thing because generally speaking with this deal, no news is good news. However in the past several weeks, there's been some stability, the good kind. And Lynn's doing her best to make the most of it, whatever that may be. Doesn't mean it's all butterflies & rainbows, but it's not Intensive care and dialysis either. We've been taught many of life's lessons, some hard, some for the better. Not knowing what tomorrow may bring makes today precious. A-Jay

Is there a better solution for using a snap with a spinnerbait than a little dental rubber band?
Every type of bass fishing has challenges and compromises. When it's important to us and when we know what they are, sometimes we are able to set ourselves up to fish more effectively in advance. Could be looked at like a luxury. I am certain that this is one of those same situations. For instance, 'when' you chose to retie, could make a big difference. Sounds like earlier is better than later when it come to drifting up to a potential big fish holding spot or area. Or you could use an anchor. Good Luck A-Jay

There is. If you insist on using a snap, the twisted wire arm type baits are really your only option. Or you could just give in, and tie directly to the bait. You know, like a real bass fisherman. A-Jay

07 June 2025 ~ Sunny Post Spawn Bassing (video)
Lynn and I spent a gorgeous day on Lake Minichuck in the Old Town Canoe. We experienced a post-spawn bite we haven't seen here in a few years. The local bass population isn't exactly large, but there were plenty, and they had the right attitude. We caught most of our fish with 4- and 5-inch Senkos and a 3/8 oz vibrating jig. Lynn took Big Fish honors again today with a bass over 3 lbs. Halfway through the day, we were treated to a low-level flyover by a pair of A-10 Warthogs. Never leave your wingman. Every single one of these trips is so special to us. Catching a bunch of bass makes it even better. A-Jay

On the road again ~ Cool now but if the Canadian Wild Fire Smoke isn't too bad, and it has been the past few days, we might see some sun. I'd be fine with just breathing normally at this point. Hey Canada, how about you keep your smoke to yourselves ? Ya, that's the ticket. Here we go ! A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
The 2nd exercise for my Workout Day 4 is a simple Hamstring/Leg Curl. Still requires me to utilized strict form and a good deal of mental focus. Usually sets me up for a decent training session. This one felt that way. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
Workout Day 3 turned out to be a late afternoon affair. Seems during my pre-workout warm-up (not shown here) I'm routinely making a full anatomy assessment. Knees, neck, elbows, ankles, hips, shoulders, forearms, wrists and of course upper and lower back. Very happy to report everything felt pretty good before, during and especially after this one. Hope that continues. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

02 June 2025 ~ Lynn's Stick Bait Smashfest
Lynn and I were out in the old Town canoe on Lake Minichuck. This typical early June northern Michigan day started out windy and in the low 40’s and finished up a little less windy by afternoon with air temps reaching almost 80 degrees. Accordingly it required more layers to begin the day, than it did by the end. Fishing was slow to start. This winter’s record snow fall has left the lake quite a bit higher offering us access to areas not previously fished. So we decided to venture into and fish some of that. We were not really able to put anything together in any of those ‘newer’ areas. So, I fired up the 1959 paddle machine (aka me) and headed back over to what has been productive recently. Of course it was directly into the wind. Once there, we worked the inside weedline with . . . .wait for it . . . 4 and 5 inch Texas rigged Senko’s. Not sure color would have mattered but we started getting bites on watermelon and just stayed with it. I got a few fish but Lynn was just ridiculous. I hardly had time to soak a bait before she was hooked up again. This went on pretty much until we left. Lynn’s been through a lot and the smiles seen here tell that story best. A-Jay
