  1. Welcome to THE boards acmaul13! Where in PA are you? I'm originally from Juniata county and still fish a few bodies of water up there.
  2. I'm using 20# Suffix braid on my spinning rods and haven't noticed anything like that. I'm a little curious to the answers that Uncle Leo asked as well.
  3. Welcome to the boards! As SPEEDBEAD said, the Palomar is what I use the majority of the time!
  4. Congrats! She's a beauty!!!
  5. Great write up hawgchaser! Good to hear the Energy PT held up to your test! Good luck testing out the drag! Catch a few tanks and let us know how the drag rates!
  6. The majority of the time I fish a buzzbait during the day, I'm throwing white. On extremely overcast days, I'll have a black one on (at least at some point I will). At night, 90% of the time, I'm throwing black. I have had a small handfull of outings at night where the bass would not even think about hitting a black buzzbait but as soon as I switched up to white, well game on! Those 2 colors make up the majority of my buzzbait time. On rare occassions, I'll throw a chartruese buzzbait. I'll opt for that color during the day under stained to muddy water situations.
  7. Hey Greg, What tube were you using? Different brand tubes come in different sizes. The Bass Pro Shops 4" Magnum flippin tube I use, I need a 4/0 Gammy EWG. If you let us know what brand(s) tube you're using, we'd be able to recommend a hook that will serve you best!
  8. Thanks rondef. paul and greg516! greg516, Sorry for the confusion there! This Black Hills is a regional park near Germantown MD. Its literally 10 minutes from where I work so I'm usually there during my lunch break and after work throughout the year.
  9. Congrats! Great looking bass! Feels good to get that monkey off your back, doesn't it?!
  10. Awesome! Can't wait to see the follow up report! Good luck and catch a few HOGS!
  11. Finally landed my first largemouth of the year (posted a thread in the tournament/outing page)! I'm so pumped now! Besides today, I've only managed a couple dink smallies here and there on the upper Potonac. Has anyone else made it out lately?
  12. Thanks! If it wasn't for this whole "work" thing, I would have never left! ;D No worries though! I'll be back after them again soon!
  13. Just started using Mega Strike this year. First largemouth of the year (today) and a new PB using it! I'm convinced!
  14. Popped over to Black Hills at lunch time to see if I could get my first largemouth of the year. I hit an area that's produced some decent bass for me in the past early in the year. It was cloudy and 44 degrees out with a north wind and a rising barometer and slightly stained water. I still felt pretty optomistic though. I started out slow rolling a spinnerbait just to see if there were any active ones around but no dice there. Set that rod down and started throwing a junebug lizard on one of the Energy PT rods I got last friday. I threw past a standing tree in about 3-4' of water when I felt one pick it up and drop it immediately. A second later, boom! She crunched it and I set the hook! I knew I had a decent one on until I saw her. Better than I originally thought! I played her in and pulled her out! Measurements put her at 22" long and 15 1/4" girth! According to the fish calculator on the site, she's 7.23lbs, I also checked her measurements against the IGFA's calculation and she went 6lbs 9oz there (which is what I'm going with). That's a new PB on the first bass on my new rod! Decent way to break in that rod! The entire equipment I was using was: 7' MHF Quantum Energy rod paired with a Quantum Energy 770PT Burner spooled with 14# Suffix Elite mono (clear), a 3/0 BPS straight shank hook with a BPS Triple Ripple junebug lizard that was loaded up with Mega Strike! ;D Not too bad for a half hours worth of fishing! Here's the pic.
  15. Great review hawgchaser! Quick question for you. Did you happen to remove the Hot Sauce grease and oil or do you like it? Just curious.
  16. Here's mine: 1. Walleye 2. Musky 3. Crappie 4. Yellow Perch 1 and 2 could almost be swapped.
  17. Thanks for the input! I was looking at the Mojo's for a while but since I couldn never put my hands on the model I was looking for, I went another direction that I'm more than happy with! I brought up the tip issue as a heads up to anyone that's looking to get one. Sounds like with Francho's comments, anyone looking to get one should definitely put their hands on it before pulling the trigger to get one. I personally, wouldn't order one on line. If I checked it out in a store and it felt right, then I could see doing it.
  18. I'm not familiar with the model you're talking about but I do own several Tourney Specials. They're a decent rod for active baits (cranks, spinnerbaits, topwaters) but for slow presentations, I wouldn't recommend them (no way near sensitive enough, IMO). I have to agree with Burley, cranks and topwater (treble hooked ones) would be the applications I'd use on this rod. My spinnerbait rod is a 7' MH Tourney Special, At least for me, I don't believe the medium has enough backbone for a good hookset.
  19. My guess would be somewhere around the beginning of May (depending on the size of the body of water your fishing). I've been tracking the spawn on the 505 acre lake I fish down here in MD over 10 years now and seems to be when the water usually hits the magic number.
  20. I heard some conflicting stories (mainly from another site I check out on occassion) now about the Mojo's. The main complaint that I heard is the rod is too tip heavy. Have any of you Mojo owners noticed this?
  21. Quantum has the Energy PT flippin stick that is telescopic. I picked one up on Tackle Warehouse for $110.
  22. I think this may be close to what you are looking for: http://www.harttackle.com/shockerrattles.html
  23. I was thinking the same thing. The max HP rating for my 16' jon is only 30. My Dad has a 14' jon and I believe the max HP rating on his is only 20-25.
  24. Poke around on the Maryland Who's who thread. You may be able to find someone closer to you that may offer you some help. Unfortunately, I'm "in the same boat" as BrianinMD as I also fish the upper Potomac. Welcome to THE boards Jocko!
  25. Thanks for the info Catt. I was going to ask how drastic of a difference you've seen. Great information too Paul!
