  1. Never tried these. If I'm using a steel leader (when I'm musky fishing) I use Berkley's Steel-on steel leaders. Other options that you can look into are hard mono or flurocarbon leaders. I use 80# hard mono and 65# fluro (both for muskies as well) and haven't had any problems there either.
  2. I've seen them before but I've never used one. My fishing partner has a couple of them and I belive he uses them for smallies with some success. If memory serves me right, his favorite color is the chartruese one.
  3. Welcome to THE boards from just south of the Mason Dixon line!
  4. Welcome to THE boards Kar! Keep an eye out for the Maryland Who's who thread on this board. It gets updated from time to time. Check it out and you may be able to find a few more anglers in your neck of the woods!
  5. Quantum Energy PT 7' MHF. This leaves money left over to buy a few more spinnerbaits too!
  6. Yep! Same ones! The two I picked up are models: QEC706F and QEC767FT. I've been using the 767FT for fishing tubes for smallies on the Potomac. I actually use more spinning gear when I'm fishing for smallies so I'm thinking about adding a QEC665F spinning rod. If you're looking to stick with casting gear, a QEC665F or the QEC666F would probably suit your needs. If you have any questions about the spec of the different models, check this page out! http://www.quantumfishing.com/prod_pages/EnergyRods.htm I got mine from TW so free shipping! Let me know if I can help you out any more!
  7. I picked 2 up back in March and couldn't be happier with them! I got a 7' MHF and a 7'6" HF flippin stick. I've been using the 7 footer for plastics and feel the rod is plenty sensitive and good backbone. I'm looking to add a couple more to my line up as I can! If you have any questions, let me know.
  8. I'm jealous Muddy! ;D Wish the temps were still that low on the waters I've been hitting! I've been finding bass on beds already. :-/ You may have only caught a few dinks but at least you had some action and started that tan! You have to hate losing a bait right after you caught a bass on it! Been there, done that too!
  9. I haven't used a Catalyst but I do own 2 Kinetic's in the 20 series and love them! I'm using 10# mono and 20# braid with no issues casting baits.
  10. I've been using both Elite and Siege. I'm actually switching over to Siege completely. Fishing year round here in MD, I've found the Elite gets a good bit of memory under 45-50 degrees (air temps). Treating it with KVD L&L helped. I've had no issues with casting and I also find both abrasion resistant.
  11. Add this one to the list of retrieve to try! There are times that I will tie a chatterbait on a high speed reel and burn it right under the surface with short pauses. The faster retrieve will give the bait a very erratic action. This one works best for me over shallow grass beds.
  12. Ah, ya don't need a boat to do that! A lot of bad luck has kept the boat dry so far this year. I caught that PB from shore.
  13. So a half hour west of Gettysburg? That would put you around Chambersburg, right? Or are you not that far west? If you are around Chambersburg, that would put you close to SPEEDBEAD and about a half hour away from me down here in MD. There are a couple lakes nearby that area that SPEED and I have fished before. There's also the upper Potomac (obviously down by me) and a handful of other lakes around in my neck of MD too.
  14. Way to go Brian! I was there friday evening after work and was wishing I had brough some toads with me! Saw several good ones hangin out around beds. Bad thing was, most of them saw me when I saw them. :-/
  15. Welcome to THE boards bunkerbstr!
  16. Largemouths take the majority of my attention but I do enjoy going out a few times a year targetting musky on the Potomac. Sometimes when I'm smallie fishing, I'll stumble across some walleyes that are on a jerkbait or crankbait bite. If I find some, I'll stop and fish for them. Can hardly beat a couple small keepers on the grill!
  17. I've tried them both and like Elite a little better. I like Sufix Siege better than the Elite though.

Mizmo Big Boy tubes and BPS Magnum Flippin Tubes!
  19. I picked up a Quantum Energy PT 7' MHF rod from Tackle Warehouse. Only a $110! I've been using this rod for throw plastics. Might pick up another for throwing spinnerbaits!
  20. 2 spinning reels and 12 baitcasters. Can ya guess what I use more? ;D ;D ;D
  21. The only way I'd even consider trying one is if they had a titanium wire. Like Dink whisperer said, I don't think they'd hold up to a big fish. That would be a tuning nightmare!!!
  22. I use a palomar know 99% of the time. When I tie it on a spinnerbait, I'll double the line up and tie an over hand knot. Take the loop (make sure its long enough to go around the bait. Make sure the main line, the tag end AND the loop are all above the bend in the spinnerbait. Now, pull the tag end tight (making sure you moisten the knot as you're pulling it tight). Cut it off and you're done. What line were you using? What was the area like that you were throwing the spinnerbait? Did you check your line often if the area was full of cover? It could be another factor that's breaking your line. Those were just a few that came to mind. Hope that helps!
  23. I picked up an Energy flippin stick and a 7' MHF from Tackle Warehouse. Gotta love the free shipping!
