Define "When you can't carry" I live in IL and there are huge restrictions on where I can and cannot carry. I may or may not carry where I can or cannot legally carry, I'm not sure sometimes... Lot's of shades of grey. More grey when I'm with my grandson. You'd better believe, if I'm with my grandson, I'm not going out without a fight.

My dad has 2 red tail hawks that occupy his balcony railing during the evening when they are looking for dinner. I happened to be at his condo one time when one of them was perched outside. A very astute looking bird and much larger looking up close and personal. And most guys post pics of the sunrise and sunset when they get skunked. I'm guilty of it as well.

I was a pipefitter before an injury took me out of the field. What you describe above is what I called job security.

There's an old saying. If you think your boss is an A'hole, then try working for yourself. I worked alone for 25 years. Had a career ending injury and got pushed into corporate America. Spent 5 years at 3 different companies. I was miserable. I hated my coworkers and I'm sure they hated me. I held the cripple card so I couldn't get fired. It's difficult to rely on folks when you are used to relying on yourself. I'm fortunate I fell in where I'm at, 5 years ago. I was hired for my knowledge of the industry. After 2 years I was given my own store to run. The store was underperforming. The store was handed to me doing $.75M a year. First fiscal year I did $1.2M and second fiscal year I broke $2M. Well, I now have an employee/coworker. He doesn't suck. He's pretty good at what he does. Guy can't take criticism and he gets stressed out if/when he does something incorrectly. THIS drives me crazy. You made a mistake. Learn from it. Move on. He is incapable of doing this. I'll point out a mistake and he dwells on it, and dwells on it, and dwells on it. I made the mistake today of explaining to him how his inventory mistakes cost me money. In the grand scheme of things, the $2K I lost from my paycheck this fiscal year is not a huge deal. The $2K of mental anguish he put on himself drives me nuts. I am penalized for inventory discrepancies both positive and negative. I want the guy to succeed. I asked him if I got killed tomorrow, could you run the store? He can't. I want him to get to the point where, if I did get killed tomorrow, he can...but I don't know that he could. It frustrates me. I've got customers texting me/emailing me during the evening and weekends and when I'm on vacation. I get to the store early every morning. He's the guy that punches in 5 minutes or less before start time and punches out at 4PM on the button. I get it to a point BUT if you're going to get ahead in my industry, you need to be available when you need to be available. I didn't go from $800K a year to over $2M in a couple years by accident.

Frabil has a fantastic warranty. I've had to use it. That being said, I shouldn't have to use it. The net I warrantied had a fiberglass handle. Had to warranty it twice before I gave up. Based off experience, any and every net I will buy will have an aluminum handle and a wedge shape. Might not be such a big deal on a 5lb fish but, get a big pike or musky, or a salmon or trout, a wimpy net is going to fail. A couple weeks ago I watched a guy try to net a large salmon with a cheapo walmart net. Salmon broke thru the netting. I brought my net over to net the fish after it broke his but, it broke off before I was able to net it for him. Couldn't tell you the brand of the net. It's a fold up net and it is currently at the house in Wisconsin. It was given to me from a guy who retired from salmon fishing. It's very well made.

An unloaded, secured firearm is no more a means of self defense as a rock is. A loaded firearm in a safe is only as good as ones ability to get into the safe during a high stress situation. I'm not going to unload and secure my weapon in a safe, every time I leave the house. Ain't gonna happen. As far as a vehicle is concerned, in this day and age, in the area I live, the weapon is on my person when I leave the vehicle and, not because I'm in fear of someone breaking into and/or stealing my truck. I don't want to be the guy that goes into WallyWorld to buy a package of nightcrawlers and loses his life because someone else is having a bad day.

I don't ever see me dealing with a dealership I am unable to negotiate a price with. Carmax or these online companies like Carvana. I could never do it. I'd much rather deal with a commissioned salesman. I am one myself.

Dad went into the hospital with congestive heart failure last night. Out of immediate danger.

I would just say a rod large enough for the bait. Don't over complicate it. An 8lb cat is really not that big of a fish. Any medium action should be fine. Would be different if you were targeting 50lb kittys using bluegills as bait.

I made a couple camping trips to the BWCA with a group back in the early 80's. Never saw any bears but I recall seeing many trees with claw marks and always questioned why we would set up tents where the bark was stripped off the trees. What did I know, I was a kid. The camp leaders spent more time warning us about moose than bears.

I volunteer one day a year with @cadman and some other folks teaching kids from 5-15 how to fish. We spend most of our time untangling lines, baiting hooks and unhooking fish. Unfortunately it was canceled this year because of the Highland Park IL 4th of July parade shooting. The bulk of the event introduces kids to hunting and unfortunately, because of the shooting, the organizers decided to cancel it for this year. My feeling is, if we can get kids hooked on the outdoors, maybe it will keep them away from gangs and drugs.

It took 2 weeks of me leaving 3 times before I agreed on the price of my Super Duty. What's real funny is, when the vehicle shortage began, I was getting postcards weekly to sell back the truck. The numbers they were talking on the postcard were more than I had paid for the truck. I stopped off one day after work. Truck had 50K on the odometer. They didn't offer me more than I paid but, they did offer me what I paid. Truck now has 75K

In the 80's as a teenager I worked at a Ford dealership as a detailer and porter. On more than one occasion we, the porters were told to disable the trade in's if the salesmen were having issues closing the deal, by pulling a wire off the distributor. If they couldn't get the sale, they would still get the customer for some cash having their mechanics "take a look at the problem". I was long gone at the time but the dealership was eventually shut down and people were removed from the dealerships in handcuffs. It's very possible the Chicago Crime Syndicate had their hands in the dealerships cookie jar. The dealership was located across the street from Horwath's Restaurant which was Sam Giancana's hangout. Sam had already been the victim of a mob hit in the late 70's. One of his hitmen was taken out in the restaurant parking lot in the 80's during the time I was working at the dealership. The restaurant is long gone as is the dealership.

My F250 has a solid axle. I think Ford is the only truck with a solid front axle. Are you talking truck or muscle car?

When my son financed his first car, I sat with him at the dealership. After almost 2 hours of back and forth, we agreed on a price. When the financing was done, I asked the salesman how they could sell a car for almost zero profit. He told me they make enough off of folks that just walk in the door and pay the asking price or jew them down a couple hundred bucks, that it doesn't matter.

GM and Chrysler/Dodge got bailed out after their run of 0% financing. I have enough money to pay off the note on the Super Duty but, with the state of affairs today, I'm going to ride out the financing for the next year. I'd rather have liquidity just in case of the zombie apocalypse. The bulk of the interest was already paid the last 4 years. 12 more months won't make or break me.

When I bought the Super Duty, I had financing already set up thru my credit union. I negotiated a price I was comfortable with and when I told Ford I already had financing, they said they could not honor the discounts they gave me without going thru Ford credit (the discounts were based on a 10% interest rate). BUT, I only have to keep the financing for 90 days and then I can refinance with my credit union. I called my girl at the credit union and she said the dealer needs you to keep the financing for 90 days so they get their kickback from Ford credit. She told me to sign the papers, it will take a week for the papers to go thru. She will call Ford credit daily and once the loan is processed she will pay it off and my loan will take effect at 2.9%. I never received a statement from Ford, got the truck for a price I felt comfortable with, and didn't get stuck with the 10% interest rate.

My dad's mother lived to be 102 and she was not thin. Every time we went to grandmas house she fed us baked chicken, mashed potato's and a vegetable. For all I know, she could have ate baked chicken, mashed potato's and a vegetable, every day of her life.
