  1. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewise2009pg5.html I was perusing the TT site & came up to the 2009 ISE Show on the West Coast. Saw the new Okuma C3 rods, actually TT showed them at the ICAST show previously. This is a great looking rod & I like the carbon handle & split grip. It's also priced right at $150-160. When these rods become available, I am looking to getting 1 baitcast & 1 spinning rod to my arsenal. It also comes w/ a limited lifetime warranty.
  2. The difference from the Accurist PT & the CX was the line spool capacity...& color options on the CX, right? I held the KVD model & it felt cheap in hand. Last year the Code did not come in a left hand, which I prefer, & after reading reviews on both reels, I really did not want to waste my money on either. I would like to get the Code Red if it's better than the other 2.
  3. One of the BPS fishing shows on Versus, I saw KVD using his new KVD cranking rod w/ a 3/4 oz Sexy Shad. So does that mean he actually uses it in tournament fishing? But most times on that show I see him w/ a Quantum Tour Edition rod & sometimes a 7' Energy PT b/c rod for crankbaits.
  4. http://www.***.com/descpageRLCQUANTUM-QCRC.html Any of you guys own or tried this reel? Looks like an updated version of the Code, but w/ a flipping switch. I guess it's close to the BPS KVD reel. I want to know if this is a better Code reel than the original. I am looking to get the left hand version, I do like the flipping switch. I guess I just want to know if this is a better quality reel than the original Code or the BPS KVD model.
  5. Roboworms 4 & 6" straight tails, works great for drop shotting too.
  6. Micro, I thought the Fuego's & Sol's b/c reels were going on the wayside too, but in BPS they actually gone up $20! Chicity, the Hammon Cabeals store is the one I go to. Maybe I'll run into you there sometimes.
  7. Check the local Cabelas by you. The one by me has the Fuego on closeout for $160. I bought one in left hand, I also have the Daiwa Advantage in left hand. Both are great reels & have the same gear ratio & IPT. The Fuego is an ounce or so lighter cuz of the magnesium frame than the Advantage. Also the spool width on the Fuego is narrower. I enjoy both reels & do use both...when the ice melts off!
  8. I'd hold off on the Stradic FI, there have been problems w/ that reel. I for one had a 2500FI & the bail was sticky & grinding sound while reeling. Brought it back & bought a Saros 3000 & no problems at all. I would look at the new Symetre, but if you want an extra spool, you'll have to buy it from Shimano which will be $30...that's BS!
  9. You won't see any rebates from Shimano this year or next. So far the new Curado & Citicas are a hit & I don't think Shimano is hurting in sales of these reels as compared to the D series. Funny thing about the D series Curados is those reels are holding a pretty good value on ebay & other sale sites. Same goes w/ the B series Curados, I'm surprised those are selling for over $50 in used condition. There are some mfg's that have rebates, Abu Garcia has rebates fpr their round reel & a free pair of Wiley X sunglasses w/ a Revo purchase of over $160. But that's on BPS not Cabelas, so it might be a deal w/ BPS. Sufix has a rebate offer on their braided line. I remember Quantum had a rebate offer for their reels in 2007 & carried over to 2008. It was only a year of the sales of those new reels that Quantum realized that sales were slow so they offered the rebates in 2007 & 2008. Like Shimano, Quantum totally redid their lineup of reels & are now lower in weight & sleeker looking. People complained when the D series Curados came out that they were priced too high compared & heavier than the B series, where people had no problems of paying $130-150 for the B series Curados & those were considered all around reels w/ quite a few gear ratio options. The $50 jump to the D series shocked alot of anglers, so to get those anglers back to buying Shimano, Shimano had to redesign & drop the price a bit. Shimano did a great thing. Daiwa on the other hand, their reels stayed put in prices & performance. I think where Shimano is trying to make back the slight loss of money from Curado E sales are in the spinning reels in the Symetre/Sahara/Sedona/Spirex. Those spinning reels have gone up $10-20 w/ new improvements, but now you don't get a spare spool. If there is a chance to see rebates from Shimano or Quantum, it won't be till next year, if the sales of the reels this year falters. I think Abu Garcia are giving rebates & sunglasses to keep buyers via BPS that Shimano & Quantum are offereing. Daiwa has little to offer in new reels for 2009, But prices have gone up. I won't be surprised if in 2010 new designs will be offered by Daiwa. If I'm wrong w/ anything I said, I apologize; this is just my opinion.
  10. No you didn't mess up getting that reel. For a reel at $100, it's great reel & it is offered in a couple gear ratios & new for 09, it is offered in left hand; which I am interested buying. I don't own a dual braking system like the PQ & I like the looks of the reel. Reel weight is right there w/ any of the name brand reels. The swept handle looks great on the reel too. I'm going to wait till the BPS Spring Classic to get the left hand PQ b/c. I'm thinking of getting the 6.3:1 gear ratio, which would be more of an all around gear ratio. I already have an Extreme 7.1:1 from last year, so the 6.3:1 is what I want. From all the BPS branded b/c reel, the PQ is the best one in my opinion.
  11. I bought the 6'8" M extra fast spinning rod. It looks great & I like the action & feel. I hope to give it a try this week. If this is comprable to the the Premier, then the Mojo is the better looking rod for around the same amount of money. The specs on both rods seem the same, but the cool looks factor sure goes to the Mojo.
  12. I use a dark green Sharpie to color the moss gree braid when it starts to fade. I make a slit cut down the middle of the Sharpie, wish I could find a wide tip Sharpie in green.
  13. Gloomis.........Also Rogue Rods......
  14. I have last years Energy PT (bought new in Dec for $95) & last years Advantage, both in left hand. As for the Energy PT, it is a bit heavier than the Advantage. The centrifugal braking on the Energy PT is "touchy", not like how refined the centrifugal braking on Shimano baitcast reels. The Energy PT braking has to be dialed in right or it's birds nest. But the drag power on the Energy PT is 17-19 lbs depending on the Energy model. The Advantage drag power is 8.8 lbs. Shimanos are 10-15 depending on the model. I got last years Energy PT cuz it's built tough & the multi-coloring of the body looks cool. I don't mind the weight of this reel & will use it part-time for light pike/musky fishing. The "touchy" braking isn't an issue when you are using lures over 1/2 oz. Lighter lures you have to dial in the braking. The Advantage is smooth right out of the box. The mag braking makes adjustments easy. I don't have to keep dialing it in to get the right amount of braking to set it for most lures. I can cast 1/4 oz(dense) on up lures w/ the Advantage. I do have to say that I am impressed w/ the 2009 Quantum reels. I am getting the 2009 Energy Tour PT b/c reel & the Energy PTi-B 30 spinning reel. I never thought that I would be wanting to buy a reel over $250 that wasn't a Shimano or Daiwa, but the Tour Energy PT b/c reel looks outstanding & trying one out at a BPS store felt great. I just hope Quantum have fixed the "touch" centrifugal braking from last years model. I know the "touchy" braking on last years Tour Energy was an issue. But as I watched fishing shows last year, KVD used the Tour Edition & Tour PT countless times. The new Energy PTi-B 30 spinning reel is lighter than last years model & still kept the multi-coloring frame. Only thing about Quantum reels though they are made in China. Daiwa reels are made in Japan or Thailand, while Shimanos are made in Japan or Malaysia. I would have thought that even the upper end Quantums would have been made in Japan, not the case but China. I really like the Advantage b/c reel for an all purpose reel & I'm sure the new Quantums will do just as well.
  15. The little warranty card that came w/ my Carrot Stix said to use Mojo (cylnder) weights, or something similar to this: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_30023_100010003_100000000_100010000_100-10-3?ordProd=Y&CMID=TOP_selectitems#itemDetail To put on the butt end cap. I don't know how you would attach the weight to the cap, probably some type of glue or putty. I would think you could use bullet weights also. I thought of adding a weight to one of my Carrot Stix, see if it makes it balance better w/ which ever reel I use; but the more I think about it, it would take away for one of the reasons I bought the Carrot Stix...the light weight of the rod. So I decided not to use a weight & it feels balanced w/ whatever reel I use. I guess the longer Carrot Stix, ones over 7'6" lengths would feel tip heavy. I guess using a weight on the butt end would balance out, but most rods over 7'6" feels tip heavy anyway.
  16. I'm wanting the 09 Tour Energy PT b/c reel & the Energy PTi-B 30 spinning reel. What a great improvement from Quantum, I hope they perform well. Their centrifugal braking on the b/c reels can be touchy compared to Shimano's centrifugal braking.
  17. Using braided line, recoil guides or SS guides? Or are they both just noisey w/ braid running through the guides?
  18. With the rebate offer that Shimano had last year, I made sure I did what they asked for, I had $150 worth of rebates coming back to me. I'd rather not deal w/ rebates at all, it takes too long to get the money back. In regards to the new Revo S, I wasn't aware that it has a new frame & bearings. I guess that justifies the price increase. But when I bought one a while back, it was a great deal at $100. Now the new BPS Pro Qualifier is a real nice reel in the $100 price range. BPS now offers the PQ in left hand & will be getting one during the Spring Classic.
  19. What does that mean exactly from rod mfg's?
  20. One reel is new while the other is 3 years old. These 2 reels are very similar, they have the same 27" IPT & both have centrifugal braking. But the Citica E is an ounce & a few flecks of sand lighter than the Revo S. Line capacity are close to being same also, & both come in left hand. I would think that either would be a great bargain reel....BUT...BPS is now charging $129.99 for the Revo S, w/ a $20 rebate...what's up w/ that???? I bought my Revo S-L when it first came out & it was then $99.99. It went up $10, now it's an "older" reel & the price takes a big jump? I know that most of the prices on BPS have gone up, but why jack the Revo S that much & then have to send in for a rebate; that makes no sense. The Citica E being new & all seems like the better deal from these 2 reels. If anyone wanted to buy the Revo S, I would probably shop somewhere else for $109.99 & forget about dealing w/ a rebate that will take weeks, months to get. Just my 2 cents...
  21. I'm also wondering that. I was at a Cabelas store today & I don't think they will get the Prodigy rods or any 2009 items till February. I did a little research & the Cabelas Magtouch rods & the new Prodigy I think use the same blanks, cuz both are 54 million modulus. Only thing I can find about the Pacific Bay Hialoy guides was on the Cabelas site under tackle making: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat410035&id=0003586310827a&navCount=7&podId=0003586&parentId=cat410035&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat410035&hasJS=true I found a little bit more info about the Hialoy guides on mudhole.com: http://www.mudhole.com/Shop-Our-Catalog/Hialoy The guides are cheap in cost but from what I can think of it would be similar to Fuji Hardloy or Alconites. I am thinking of getting a couple of the Prodigy rods. The spinning rod looks like it has a reel seat similar to the Shimano Cumara spinning rod, but in Cabelas own design.
  22. I would've gotten one last year IF Cabelas/Abu Garcia offered it in left hand, I really liked the red color of the reel.
  23. Great post...but it hurts my eyes reading it. The "I gotta try & have the newest fishing rod" other self keeps pulling me away from reading this post & enjoying it.
  24. Got mine this past Friday. Alot of great new stuff & prices have gone up on alot of things also. The rod that got my attention is the new Cabelas Prodigy baitcast & spinning rods. They have split grip handles, but I don't know much of the guides being used. But they are aluminum oxide guides though, wonder if they are comparable to Fuji Alconites or lower end Fuji guides? I noticed that the XMLTi rods for musky fishing aren't in the new catalog, I guess they have discontinued the XMLTi musky rods. The reels that I am interested this year are the new Quantum Energy tour baitcast reel & the Energy PTi-B spinning reel. Those are very good looking reels & I am going to be getting them. The new E21 Carrot Gold Stix will be available too. I'm very happy w/ the Carrot Stix LTX I have, I really don't like the lengths & action of the new Carrot Gold Stix. Daiwa prices have gone up & Kistler & Shimano rod prices have gone up too. Kistler has remodeled their line & have added the new Argon & Carbon rods also. It's like the North American made version of the Magnesium, which have dropped in price & made in China. Quantum Superlight rods have gone up in price also. Shimano rods have gone up $20, so the Cumaras/Crucials/Compres cost that much more. I noticed that Pflueger baitcast reels don't come in left hand, their higher end models. The new President which looks great does not come in left hand. Pflueger has lost business w/ me for not selling left hand baitcast reels. Oh yeah, the Trion LP & round baitcast reels come in left hand...yay. Shimano Symetre/Sahara/Sedona/Spirex/Solstace have gone up in price & don't come w/ a spare spool. You need to buy a Saros & on up to get a spare spool. The new Shimano Chronarch will be available in March. I don't like the looks, it's a Core. I prefer the previous version & looking to getting one by spring, new B model Chronarch. Fenwick Elite Tech Walleye 6'3" Med spinning rod looks like it would be the perfect dock skipping rod. The cork handle looks like it would give a very good grip when your hands get wet. I like that or maybe the new Prodigy 6' med spining for dock skipping.... For fishing line, the new Tuf Line Dura Cast looks promising for spinning reels. It says it's made for spinning reels & it's suppose to prevent wind-knots & rod-tip wraps. Price wise it's a cheaper than Power Pro or Sufix. There's a whole bunch of new lures that I am interested in & Cabelas has a Storm Thin Fin version that I want to try out, it also comes in a Sexy Shad color. I saw the new Spro BBZ-1 Shad will be available too. The weight is 7/8 oz, it's the only one they carry & it's the slow sinker; 3" per second fall rate. So far I like what Cabelas has to offer for 2009 in fishing. I'm sure they will be adding things through out the year. So what new 2009 fishing stuff are you looking to buy?
  25. Looking to getting the 6'10" H. I read the reviews on BPS in regards to the Nitro rod, but wanted feedback from here. I want to compare this rod to the Cabelas XMLTi 6'10" MH baitcast rod, if one is better than the other.
