  1. One time, when my boys were young, I took them fishin' at a local pond. Well I hook into this huge bullfrog on my Rebel Pop'r and my kids got all freaked out. I told them I had to reel 'em in to unhook him, no big deal right. I go to unhook the frog and honest to goodness, he let's out this guttural squeal, that sets my kids to start crying and running away. I took to laughin' and that made my two even more upset. Whew! The long and short of it is, I threw the darn frog back... needless to say that was the end of fishin' with Dad for awhile. Eventually they went fishing, only if I promised to never catch anymore frogs.
  2. Being a fellow Rhode Island basser for about 40 years, you have no idea how HUGE this fish is. I fish every day on private and public waters and a bass like that is the fish of 10,000 casts for sure. Killer custom ya got there. looks just like a sunfish. Outstanding! Hoist-n-Hawgs.
  3. I've got a 6ft 8" med crankbait Lowrider. I love it. It loads up nice and very zings those lures out there. Like many others said, a good value at a great price. I'd grab it if I were you. hookset on 3
  4. A technique I've been using more and more of is beaver type baits set-up with a Buckeye Goby Sled.
  5. Invisx all day! I was a dedicated Yo-zuri Hybrid fan for the last 4 years, but no more. I'm so impressed with the strength, castability, low memory of Seaguar. The Hybrid was stiff, even with the Line and Lure Conditioner and had too much memory. I'm all in for flouro. hookset on 3 8-)
  6. Look out, Red's on fire! fish, fish, sleep.
  7. See, it's the simple pleasures of life that give you perspective and mindful clarity. regards, hookset
  8. Sorry , got cut off. The second is by *** (swim shaky jig). hookset on 3
  9. I found that the following set-ups really make the beaver type baits glide on a pronounced horizontal plane. The first is a fairly new jig head from Buckeye Lures. It's called the goby sled. The second is the swim shaky jig head from ***.
  10. Actually, about a half dozen times I can remember (bassin'40 years). I grew up fishing farm ponds and golf course ponds.most fish had never seen a lure before. They are also in double trouble when they are on beds. I've broken off bass, only to catch them later with a diff. bait or even the same worm. As it states at the bottom of my page...
  11. I've had good success with the R2S Cranky M. Comes thru cover like a trucker.
  12. Is the Pope Catholic?
  13. Yes. We use the pink and white 9" for stripers. And ya know what? I'm going to give them a whirl for smallmouths this year too. Hey Crest!, Do they grow em that big in Quabbin Res.?
  14. Now we know that, East texas Lunkers go for The Rage!
  15. I use them to imitate tadpoles and they have worked well for me in a few small ponds I hit regularly.
  16. I picked up some Bass Dozer Swim Shaky Jigs, which I attach a Zoom Horny Toad. I either bounce it along the bottom or retrieve slowly with a few twitches. This has been very successful, because it's something they haven't seen. As Bass Dozer pointed out, frogs spend most of their time trying to burrow in the mud to escape predators.
  17. Yum Wooly Bug. Plastic is soft and pliable. I get 4 or 5 bass out of one bug, unlike the Sweet Beavers, which didn't seem to hold up for me. Smoke with red pepper Green Pumpkin
  18. That's a hawg ANYWHERE! Congrats. Are you going to get it mounted or areplica? :exclamation
  19. The Bait Monkey is just around the corner. He'll be there shortly. hehehe! :-?
  20. On Road Warrior's advice, I'm tying the Alberto's Knot, which is xtra strong Albright. I've been testing it out this year and it has not burned me yet.
  21. Hello RussBert, I'm one state over in Rhode Island. Anyway, I've had a few of these TD-Pro reels and for that kind of money I would buy a few. I can confidently say, they are one of the finest spinning reels I've ever used in 4 decades of Bassin'. Everything about them is solid-state and rugged. Drag is very smooth.Casts a looong way also. I never get bird's nests. I use either Power Pro 30 with a 8Lb. flouro leader or Seaguar Invisx 8Lb. Prior to that in 09 or 08 I used Yo-Zuri 6 or 8Lb. Hybrid. Never a problem I can think of. I say go for it. hookset on 3
  22. I fish the ZZ Walker over lily pads and matted veg. all the time. It works very well and stands up to a lot of abuse. Good design and rugged plastic does the trick.
  23. Great smallies! just like the ones you catch back home. I've witnessed these fishing trips in the front of your canoe. So, do you have some time this weekend to take me out in the Nitro? hookset
  24. Jelly, how old is this pond? that makes a big diff. Are you seeing any bait fish in that clear water? hookset on 3
  25. This time of year when they're already shallow, Flippin in horizontal cover for the shade factor. Popped a few this evening with a Yum wooly bug in green pumpkin.
