Texas Rig Old School
Ok avid knock the cob webs off, blow the dust away, and give us your's I like comparing how people in different parts of the country learn the same techniques but add local flavor. A friend and I did an article on night fishing, he fishes Beaver Lake in Arkansas, and I fish Toledo Bend in Texas. I was taught how to fish worms in the marshes of Southwest Louisiana where the average water depth is 2 to 3' and the vegetation is unbelievable. We fished worms rigged with weedless hooks and the heaviest weights were 1/32 oz.

trolling for Bass
From here to over yonder I would say 20-25 yds, usually just watch my reel letting out about 1/3 of the capacity. Another tip loosen your drag! So when you get hung you'll be able to release the spool!

Just need to vent.
As a ASE certified Ford, Lincoln, & Mercury mechanic may I can give you a few suggestions? First get the ball joint fixed period, do it your self or pay have some one do it. Second the muffler is easy to change yourself, at worst it may need to be cut off. Third if you have a manifold leaking it's probably exhaust, if it were the intake manifold the car probably wouldn't start or run well. Fourth the brakes are easy, you have a Cajun blue print the other side If you believe you can do the manifold you can do all of them, you may have to rent some tools but most auto parts stores rent them.

Tournament fishing--a negative view
I believe a lot of it has to do how one was raised, I usually find that people who act this way, their parents did to. If I acted like that my daddy would have hit me so hard behind the back of the head it would have shook my grand kids! It's called sign language you know where one talks with their hands!

How can I get rid of the scum line around boat?
You can purchase a buffer from Sears for about $100. English Color or Finish Master will sell the two sided 3M super buffet bonnet for about $30.00. 3m Marine compound is the best over the counter compound. I recommend a marine grade was with CARNUBA in it. You will also need a buffer adapter that both Color Service and Finish Master sell. It is about 7 bucks. This will give the buffing bonnet about an inch clearance between the buffer and the bonnet. Wipe the boat down with a damp rag and remove any dirt and grime. Apply the compound directly on the boat with a two inch paint brush. Then go to town with the buffer. Start at a low speed until you feel comfortable with the buffer. Stay away from any transducer or temp sensor cables. If the oxidation/scum is not taken out of the boat, lightly sand the surface with 800 grit sandpaper and spray the paper and the surface with water from a spray bottle. For an 18-20 foot boat, it will take 5-7 hours to do the entire job. When your arms feel like they are ready to fall off, then you know you have done a good job. P.S. Do not let the carnauba was to completely dry. Once it dries it gets as hard as concrete and takes forever to remove the excess wax. I would spend the money for a variable speed. I like mine at 3000 rpms or more. The faster the rpms, the faster you are done. So just make the decision on how long you want to buff on the boat. 1800 rpms is ok, but will take you almost twice as long..

Texas Rig Old School
I was introduced to the Texas Rig back in 1972 while the equipment has changed the technique is still the same. The Texas Rig was originally designed to fish a plastic worm but today it is used with any type of soft plastic. The Texas Rig and deep water (15' +) structure 1) Make a long cast 2) Strip 3 or 4 arms length of line, this will assure a vertical fall 3) Count the bait down, 15' of water count to 20 to make certain the bait is on the bottom, do it in your head if need be 4) Pause a good 30 seconds after the bait reaches bottom 5) Lower your rod to the 3 o'clock position while reeling slack & feel for anything unusual 6) Move the rod from 3 o'clock to 11 o'clock in three motions 7) Pause 30 seconds & feel for anything unusual 8) Repeat 5, 6, & 7 all the way back to the boat 9) If at any time you feel a noticeable tap, tug, line tighten, heaviness, or see line movement. 10) Without hesitation drop the rod, reel the slack, and set the hook

threading chunks?
Depends on if I want a shorter or longer profile Here's a tip Once you've hooked the plastic chunk, stick a tooth pick through it just above the bend in the hook, clip the ends and dare a bass to pull it off.

How can I get rid of the scum line around boat?
Quit hanging around them ;D Seriously, Wal-Mart automotive department it's called Orange Blast by Greased Lighting. It'll clean your boat hull, fuel tank area, upholstery, tires, mag wheels, under your hook, and in the kitchen. Spray on let it soak in, brush it, or use a scrub pad.

rattler color
They're all good regardless of the water color; traps are the ultimate reaction bait, fish one while in a jon boat and feel the vibration.

Dominant and aggressive?
Big bass feed more aggressively, but they also feed more efficiently (maximize food intake and minimize energy output). So what does all this aggression/dominances have to do with catching big bass? Simple, slow down, & work an area effectively not aggressively You may have to cull through some small fish but the big boys are there
-
Why did this work so well today?
#1 Panther martin, in weeds and in shallow water, this is a pattern #2 You were doing nothing wrong with the Texas Rig, it just happened not to be part of the pattern. #3 Where were the big bass, don't we all want to know that one :-/
