PC Is Working Again
Two suggestions: Comodo firewall & your favorite flavor of AV (Avast is a very good AV). Also, run Firefox if you are not doing so already. With FF, add on ****. Much (not all) malware, viruses, root kits, etc are executed via scripting. With ****, you can turn scripting on/off depending on the site.

Topwater question
I, admittedly, haven't used topwater lures much, but just picked one up last night. Going to learn to 'walk the dog', but both a buddy, who uses topwater lures as well as some other sources say to use a stiff, heavier line, needed to keep the line 'on the surface'. I don't like using heavy line and actually fish spinning more than my baitcaster. Is this true or am I missing something? :-?

Would you buy a Chrysler?
To me, what is sad in an ironic way, is that my late parents both had a number of Chrysler products & back in '50/60's they were decent cars. The big 3 never caught up once imports became a staple of our society and found they couldn't compete. That said, '99 Toyota Tacoma, 255K miles, runs basically the same as when it had 25 miles on it new. Oh, did have to replace a starter & TPS. Nothing else.

Lets Brag on Your State
Georgia: The Positive: Not YET a total gestapo state. The mountains. The Negative: State run by morons. Local corrupt government. Lousy economy/lack of good jobs. Too many bad drivers. It's Georgia. :-X

spinning rod choice
You can't put a Shimano reel on a Daiwa rod - that's sacrilegious and will insult the rod, the reel and all the shimano/daiwa people here! What were you thinking????? ;D Seriously, take your reel down to the store, try it on the rods you are considering for balance and feel. Can't speak for Daiwa's rods, but they have some great rods available, as well as the other known brands. I believe biggest question is your fishing habits - what will you be looking to fish with the new rod, i.e. swimbaits, cranks, plastics, etc. I, personally, won't buy another rod without both knowing what I want to do with it and taking the reel I intend to put on it with me. Good luck & let us know what you get.

Rod and Reel Tranport in Pickup
I use a cheap rack from BPS, holds 4, and carry them in the cab. Can't trust what could happen in the bed of a PU.

Looks like I might be having a baby too.
Simple solution: Sue Bud Wiser or Sam Adams for support. P.S. If the water DOES break - drink it, probably 90 proof.......

Replacing/upgrading gear is about behavior, not deals
flechero, truly a great post, and one that points out the (sometimes) lunacy of buying new gear. I love buying new rods/reels. Currently, I am broke, but managed to save for a new rod. Pennies/Nichols/Dimes/Quarters all helped towards my goal. I'm happy with my new rod, albeit not a Loomis or St Croix. I got back into fishing because no one took me fishing much as a kid. After working for many years, I thought fishing has got to be cheaper that the other hobbies I adopted. I was (still am) right, as it works for me. People don't need the so-called 'best' right away. Learn to work with what you have. If I've vented, sorry.

Function and aesthetics on a spinning reel?
Well, just my 0.02 worth: take a look at: Daiwa Tierra/Advantage - both available in a 1500 size. As I've been recently informed, the Advantage is a very well built reel. Just played with one for the first time, quite nice. Abu 701/702LX - Both of these are right around the size of my Symetre 1500, all metal, very well built.

Bass Pro Rodz VS Shimano
Lose? Lose what? Have you fished your new rod yet? I was at BPS last week, looking for new rod. Tried many, including the Mojo. Walked out with a BPS rod. BPS, as well as Cabela's make fine rods. The best? No. Suitable? Certainly. I, personally, have to take into account $$$ versus my hobby, so I have to be careful. Just MHO.

Do you do this?
Dumb question, but do any of you check out lakes without your gear and with no thoughts of fishing it immediately? I have started to do this to get a look at the shoreline, structure, etc. I fish from bank, no boat, but sometimes this gives me ideas where to go. When I do it, I take nothing but a notebook. Am I nuts? (don't answer.......) ;D
