  1. I have a place like that, its back up in the corner of a pond, theres 2 patches of veg with about 3 sqft of open space behind the veg. I can throw a buzzbait in there every other day and always catch a fish and I know Ive caught the same fish several times. Its a 3 #'der (weighed it twice) so its fun to hook'em.
  2. I just sent an email with pics to the local state fisheries rep.
  3. Ive caught several in the same pond this year that were like this. The fish appeared to be strong and fought hard when hooked. Anyone got any idea what is wrong with the area near the tail?
  4. When I was 23 I didn't have any loot cause I spent it all chasing them female things!
  5. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D lost it with that remark RW!!! ;D ;D ;D steezy, sounds like you must get this reel now!!!! ....if its like that, id never come home! Im gonna go look at it this week and will probably buy it to try and see if its all everyone says it is. Im thinking Medium Light rod, what would be the best high end choice for a reel of that quality? steez, glx, .......
  6. It was cool this morning (56 degrees) and I was skeptical about throwing a crank but did it anyway and caught several 2-3 #'ders in 6-8 feet of water. Cranking also kept me from getting cold but I dont think the fish liked the cold air. :'(
  7. Is there a big diff between the FB and FD model? Bronzefly has a great deal on an FB.
  8. Fished in high winds today and learned the importance of a sensitive rod. I owe all the success of the trip to a sensitive rod. How do others deal with high winds and trying to feel the bite on a plastic?
  9. Is the Stella FD really that much better than the Stradic CI4, I know there is a big price difference but I thought the new Stradic CI4 was Shimanos new latest and greatest spinning reel. Any Stella FD owners care to comment on the advantage over the new Stradic CI4. How does the Sustain fit into the mix? Is a Stella better than a Sustain and if so why? Pardon all the questions but Im a dummy when it comes to spinning reels. They all seem to work the same way.
  10. What is the closest match in the shimano lineup compared to the steez in spinning reels. Stella FD Sustain FE Stradic CI4 Im looking for similar weight and size. Im trying a steez spinning and it feels very good but want to try a shimano reel before I make a decision. It would be easy if shimano had a core spinning reel like diawa has a steez spinning reel. A recommendation from people that have used the high end shimano spinning reels would be appreciated.
  11. Diawa STEEZ is probably one of the most expensive at $479.
  12. X2 ! 7.x for anything but deep water, the lower 6.x ratio really helps in deep water. I learned that the hard way recently on my first trip to a big lake when I only took 7.x reels. Lucky my friend let me use one of his 6.x reels.
  13. Before I went crazy and switched to Loomis and Steez rods I used to fish BPS johnny morris signature series rods and they were very good rods for the money.
  14. "one more cast" How many fish have we all caught on, "one more cast", I lost count. I think the my last words before I die might be, "one more cast". BTW, Great Fish!
  15. All weightless plastics (including senkos), same rod.
  16. Don't let the fact that you are "shore bound" keep you from fishing a drop shot rig. I have caught a lot of fish this year using a drop shot from shore. It works really good next to heavy cover where the water is 1-2' deep.
  17. Everyday is the best day to fish, you wont always catch fish but sometimes its just fun to fish. Today was one of those weird days, the wind was blowing so hard that casting a crankbait with the wind carried it so far it almost emptied the spool, the water was choppy, it was very cloudy and they were biting like crazy. Caught several nice fish and even a 4 #'der.
  18. That is GREAT! The only problem I have now is everytime I take my 15 yr son he out fishes me. He catches more and bigger fish and he says he doesnt really like to fish. :-[
  19. X2 If jumping after hookset, rod tip down (in water if possible) and NEVER allow slack in line. These habits were 2 of the best things I ever learned about bass fishing. I try to keep my drag set to around 3 lbs.

These are some nasty creatures and get mad quick. They will bite without warning. The bite probably wont kill you but its very painfull according to a couple of friends that have been bitten. I have seen about a dozen of these snakes this year while fishing around ponds. I even had a couple of them crawl next to me within a foot, needless to say I moved away slowly and got out of its way. I try to always wear boots when shore fishing, especially if walking through high grass and weeds or around fallen trees and I always carry a cellphone so I can call for help if needed.
  21. Yea thats funny! Ive actually had my spro frogs eaten several times by very large bullfrogs. Most oft he time I can get the hooks out easily but a couple of times Ive had to cut the frogs mouth to get my spro frog back. The topwater hit looks and feels just like a bass when a big frog hits it.
  22. Early morning and late evening, shallow crankbaits (1-4 feet) and buzzbait near cover. Any cover, includes even a small peice of moss floating on the water or a couple of lilly pads. Caught a 2.5# LMB yesterday when I pulled a buzzbait by some leaves floating on the water 6 ft in front of me. Nearly scared the crap outta me when he hit it.
  23. Should I include all the fish I catch with all my topwater lures? ;D ;D ;D
  24. No way, checkout that lighting rod on the top, how many would want to be out on the water in that rig and a storm hits, with just that trolling motor you are a sitting duck for disaster. Looks cool but I'll pass.
  25. Ya know, here I was thinking how wrong you are about spending that much on rods and reels in a year but when I started looking at what all I've spent in the last 3 years on rods and reels I came up with $630 on 3 spinning reels and 4 baitcasting reels, 1 spinning rod and 3 baitcasting rods. Man I never realized how much I spent on that stuff. Of course it took me 2 1/2 years to get there, from spring of 2007 to fall of 2009. Here I was thinking I really didn't spend all that much but that's a pretty good amount to me. Go ahead, spoil yourself a little. After you buy the 2nd or 3rd one and fish with them every time you hit the water, you will forget about the price. Order the reel and the day it arrives, tell the wife shes beautiful and hand her a gift certificate for a day at the spa. Works everytime.
