  1. I just talked to Larry at G-blanks and he says he can make me a rod I will like better than my loomis GLX rods for $200. He is checking on a grip that I like and if he can do it I think Im going to give it a try. Wont be the first time I gambled $200 and if its a nice rod I will save over $100 compared to another GLX.
  2. Even when I tell someone about my best spots, they usually dont fish it correctly or use the wrong lure for the type of situation so they dont catch many (if any) fish. The sad thing is when I try to offer help on lures or technique they act like they are not interested in getting any help. Thats when I just wait patiently until they decide to move on and I start catching fish right before their eyes. Its funny when they say how did you do that and I respond with I tried to tell you but you were not interested.
  3. The fish here bite like crazy right after it stops raining. The harder the rain the better the bite when the rain stops. I almost hurt myself trying to get to the water when it stops raining.
  4. Works best for me early morning (sunrise) and near dark (sunset).
  5. I had 5 back operations in the past 30 years (I'm now 47) and I have found that I have less back pain if I wear really good shoes or boots when I am shore fishing. I noticed if I wear slippers or light weight shoes with little or no support my back will kill me after 4 or 5 hours shore fishing. I also notice I was standing on an angle most of the time and even a very slight angle would create more stree on my back. Wearing better shoes really helped to decrease the back pain.
  6. Thats gotta be a sad feeling when you reel in the line and nothings attached to the end.
  7. What blanks is gblanks using? Im sure his labor has got to be at least $100 per rod so that means he must be using a $100 blank. How is the quality and sensitivity of a $100 blank? No offense but can't you really buy a sub $200 off the rack rod that is just as good?
  8. sorry its not robert, my parents doomed me 47 years ago by naming me bobby (I'm from the south) sorry again, I dont have the flex-lite series. I use the SVF Graphite rod, model#STZ601MFBA, cause its the only way I could get a 6' rod. I love my steez rods and actually mounted a core 50 on one of them for a day and Im almost embarrassed to say it was more enjoyable than with my steez reel on it. However, its real hard to beat my core 50 on my loomis GLX. The more I use my core 50 and loomis GLX it almost makes me regret buying my steez reels and rods.
  9. Ive noticed the core 50 has less play in the handle and smoother operating than the core 100 but the wiggle is still there. By contrast my steez are as tight as a drum. Maybe that's why my core 50 casts farther than my steez, its not so "up tight". ;D
  10. I fish frogs and top water a lot but this was like a homeless man going after a xmas ham.
  11. Had an strange thing happen this morning. I was fishing a spinner bait along a grass line in about 1' of water and just before I lifted the lure from the water I had a bass strike at the lure and so aggressive that it splashed water on me. I got a nice view of the fish, looked like almost 3 lbs. It happen twice in 2 different areas. I know bass are predators but this is wild! I wonder what would make the bass so aggressive?
  12. IMHO, The Core 50 is great for any bait, its built just as tough as the rest of the Shimano reels built for bass fishing. Just because it weighs less doesnt mean it cant handle heavy action. I would never under esitmate the toughness of my core 50. Ive already cranked in 5#'ders with it and was as smooth as my Core 100 and probably any other Shimano BC reel.
  13. Get the GLX ! even if you can only purchase 1 rod, its worth it. It will make your fishing more enjoyable. I fish with several people that have the IMX and Loomis rods other than the GLX and I hear them say over and over theres not that much difference in the GLX. Then I had them one of my GLX rods and they fish with it for a few minutes and guess what, they don't want to give it back. I buying a 3rd GLX this month as soon as I decide on a which reel, probably another Core 50. Sweetest combo on the planet.
  14. You guys gotta get one of these reels, it just plain out of this world sick. I cant stop fishing with mine, havent touched an other reel in the past 2 days. I'll be ordering another one soon, just wish they offered a 6.x ratio in addition to the 7. Hey, Bantam1 any idea if there is a 6.x ratio on the drawing board? BTW, can anyone say from experience how it compares to the chronarch 50mg.
  15. Give it some thought 'cause once you go GLX you will never go back. They are sweet rods!
  16. The GLX is a SUPER rod, only problem I have now is that its the only rod I will ever buy again. Spoils the crap out of ya but worth every penny. I like my GLX's better than my Steez as far as sensitivity and flexibility. The steez is lighter but the GLX feels like a rolls royce.
  17. I will admit it and I own Steez, the Core 50 casts better and cost $100 less !
  18. Thanks Bantam1 for saving me the time to confirm this.
  19. Yea, it comes with a tote bag instead of a cover. Pretty pityful for a $369 reel. Guess Shimano figured they would save us the $100 difference between the Core and the Steez by not including a cover.
  20. I didnt weigh mine but shimano says the reel weighs 5.5 oz. It is very light and feels as light as my steez that is rated at 5.5 oz.
  21. Now you have a tough decision, if you take it out of the box, spool it with line, mount it on a rod and cast it........your not going to want to use your other reels. Have you held it in your hand yet? If so, how does it feel?
  22. The 7.x ratios between manufactures are quite different, the core50 cranks in 28" of line and the Steez does 30" so switching between them requires you to slow down to achive the same results. Too bad there isn't a standard for reel gearing.
  23. I will attempt to swap/compare the spools this evening and let you know. I will be surprised if they are swappable due to the fact that the new core50 is a much lower profile than the previous core100.
  24. I was extremely impressed with the quality feel and smoothness. Shimano really focused on ergonomics, it fits the hand just like the steez and much better than the core100.
