My plan for beating winter blues this year...
I do something like that , but it in the boat….. go up the Ocklawaha, Bear creek or Blue run. There are creeks off the St John’s River..tie off or drift..you see and hear a lot just being quiet.

My plan for beating winter blues this year...
I usually take a little break in the colder months here. I know, I know, here in Fl our colder months don’t even compare to you that live up north. I lived I Nc for a while ( still no comparison to those that live farther up north.) But, I pull my boat out, service it, clean it, and fix or add anything that needs it.. Then I start on my gear, take apart and clean reels. Most of the time I re-spool most of my Mono and do the braid as needed. Go through my tackle and all that good stuff. Sometimes my friends come over and we have a spool party instead of pool party…. I know pretty pathetic, but we drink a lot of beer and talk trash. But with all that being said, my breaks from fishing are short and voluntary, not because I’m iced out or because it’s just too freezing cold to fish.

What have you learned this fishing season?
Patience …….some days are better than others….. oh another thing, double check to make sure the plugs in the boat.

punching mats -- is it a slower technique, or quicker, in terms of once your bait is down there...
Me too, most of the bites I get were ether as it made contact with the water or on the way down.

The most important thing I have learned on Bass Resource.
I’ve learned slow down, and to fish more methodical. It’s ok if don’t catch anything, relax and enjoy the day. And nobody’s wrong just different in they way they fish, sometimes I like their way better than mine.

Has anyone noticed the fishing crowds?
I live on St John’s River, there was definitely a huge increase of boats on the water last year. I guessing around 75% were pleasure boaters versus people fishing. I took it as a good sign, families outside having fun. Kids laughing while getting drug around by a pontoon boat on a tube. Boat doing maybe 20 mph but, to those kids they feel like they doing 100 mph. Now it was a little aggravating coming around a point and seeing one or two boats fishing one of your favorite spots. But with that said, it did make me venture out and explore different areas to fish, broke my PB twice this year…..on the same day even. Yep the extra boat traffic can get aggravating and even dangerous, seen a lot of near misses. I am glad to see people getting outside and spending family time together.

One last trip....a cautionary tale.
Glad you made it back to tell us about it, too many times situations like that turn into people wondering what happened.

Dumb pole question.
I started out with the tree stakes that looked like green rebar but they were some kind of plastic. I bent those pretty quick. The ones I have now are solid fiberglass, they push my boat pretty good. boat is 500lb dry weight + motor 25hp 4 stroke, fuel 6 gal, plus gear and my butt 170lb. I would guess little over 1000 lb

Yamaha 15hp prop selection
Try propwizard.com propellerdepot.com both have finding the right prop links. You put in motor type, make, model, hull type, weight …etc, etc It will get ya close. A tachometer is nice when fine turning. Have you taken the prop off yet? Most props have markings some where. Sometimes it’s around the spline area, or under the washer, even if it’s only a part number.

Any idea how to find price of used John boat
I sold 12/36 alumacraft Jon boat with 9.8 and trailer for $1500.00 about 3 yrs ago. It was bare bones, no trolling motor or anything. If you get it for a winter project there is a forum called tinboats.net I got a lot of good ideas from the people on that site. I just got finished doing a project boat myself a 15/48 mod-v polarcraft.

Dumb pole question.
Go to garden section at Lowe’s or Home Depot, they have 1” fiberglass tree stakes, garden poles, they may call it something different. I got 2 of the 1”x6’ for stick pins (shallow water anchors) and use as a push pole. I put PVC tee handles on them, tee handle down for push pole and tee handle up for anchoring. You can search “ home made shallow water anchors”too, some utube videos come up. I they come in 1”x 4’,6’,8’ lengthens.

Bait Monkey Defeated.
I’ve been pretty good this year, a few new bags of plastics, spool big game. Most of my purchases have been at yard sales. A boat doesn’t count right, I mean, it’s not bait.
