  1. here's my suggestions okay: crankbait: 10 or 12lb mono(go heavier if you are in heavy cover) spinnerbait: monofilament if you want the spinnerbait to stay near the surface(use flourocarbon if you want to feel everything that your lure hits) buzzbait: monofilament or braid but not flourocarbon because it sinks worms and weightless lures: 6 or 8lb flourocarbon pitching & flipping reel: Depends on the type of cover, but I use only braid or flourocarbon. If your in heavy cover go with braid, but in clear water I use flourocarbon only or braid with a flourocarbon leader. jigs: same setup as pitching and flipping because jigs are made to be thrown into the heaviest of cover spare reel: put some copolymer line on this reel hope this helps you
  2. here let me help you okay. With texas rigs the bite will feel like this: thump, thump, thump. Sometimes the bass will give you one hard thump and you'll see your line start moving. SET THE HOOK! With a jig the bite is usually a hard thump(if fish are active), or it can be as subtle as a small tick on your line. Usually I see my line moving though and that indicates a bass. Don't hesitate and SET THE HOOK! Last for carolina rigs you don't actually feel the bite, it's more of you feeling the pressure of the bass either swimming away or swallowing your lure already. Hope this helps.
  3. great video Glenn. Good stand up guy. I'm a KVD fan, but I think Skeet will win angler of the year.
  4. when you caught a bass when no one else is. I think everyday you go fishing is a successful day because even though you don't catch anything it teaches you a lot about the lake still. For me getting skunked just makes me more determined to keep coming back. That's just my opinion.
  5. X2 The citica is also more versatile as you can use it for everything whereas the viento holds less line and I hated that reel, twitchin bar included.
  6. yep that looks like a 6 pounder to me. Probably 6lb 4oz. If she had a big belly then you would've had an 8 pounder in your hands. Anyways congrats on the catch.
  7. I have to disagree with you guys and go with the anaconda. I've caught a good load of bass to boost my confidence with this lure. It's my go to lure now because it's so versatile especially when you have to fish slow. the slightest twitch will make the tail flutter, and the slower the better. Just my opinion.
  8. I totally agree with everyone. Here in southern California, these lakes are highly highly pressured. Anyways here's a tip that will help any angler: TALK TO THE FISHERMEN THERE. Find out what the lake you're fishing at is all about, the cover, the structure, and find out what lures have been working. I used to bring three or four rods with me, now I have lowered it down to 2. One for jigs/soft plastics, and the other for moving baits. Aside from this keep an open mind on fishing, and don't change lures too quickly as well.
  9. Oh man I've got a funny one to tell about me getting hurt. It was during the bluegill spawn and we spotted bass staying close to shore in the back of the lake. The problem was that there were big trees in our paths and we had to climb on top of this tree limb that was about 2 feet in the air. If you slipped or something then you're going into the water. Anyways I pitched my lure to try to get the bass to bite and as he hit my lure I set the hook and lost my balance. Now I tried to run to the left of the tree limb to regain my balance, but it got worst. I slipped and fell into the water and got my wallet, shoes, jean, and my tacklebox all wet. It was hilarious, but d**n it hurts so bad though.
  10. presentation is everything to me. I fish a lot of clear lakes and if you make a big splash, you can just say goodbye to the bass in that area.
  11. My opinion on this is that the spot seems perfect to you, but it doesn't seem perfect to the bass. For example, fishing lures catch fishermen, not fish right? you think a lure is supposed to work because it looks good, but it doesn't. I think this applies to finding bass as well.
  12. I like this idea. Can't wait to see which one wins. I think it will be the rage craw or the paca craw who will reign supreme
  13. like everyone else, Tackle Warehouse, is one of the best places to order fishing tackle. Never had one bad experience with them. Plus it only takes 2 days for them to bring my stuff straight to my door. I rate their customer satisfaction as 200% ;D
  14. yep I'm going to be using this reel for finesse fishing. I might throw out weightless soft plastics and need a reel that can do this without the backlash. I also want it to be comfortable when palming as well as being lightweight.
  15. when you own an E5, you want the 6:2 bad! x2
  16. go with anything shimano. Their centrifugal brake system is basically fisherman proof. It's very easy to adjust. As for the reel if you could spend up to $100, get the shimano citica E which is by far the best reel in its class.
  17. oh by the way I want a lightweight reel. I was going to buy that revo STX earlier this year, but it's weight was what turned me away from it. It looks amazing, but I'm looking for a lightweight reel as well.
  18. as of right now the STRIKE KING RAGE TAILS are my favorite plastics. The amount of action and water they displace is unbelievable.
  19. alright but is there another reel that I should take a look at also. The chronarch 50MG is great for pitching and flipping, but it feels very underpowered to me. I would like to check out other reels as well.
  20. hey guys got another question. I'm going to be buying a new bass fishing combo soon. I'm going to be fishing weightless plastics and ultra light jigs(3/16oz-1/4oz). I pretty much have the rod that I want picked out already, but now need a reel to match it. I want a small profile reel that palms really good such as a chronarch 50MG reel. By the way my budget that I want to spend is about $200 or more for the reel. let me know your suggestions okay. Thanks in advance.
  21. wow that knot is even easier than the palomar knot. I'll probably have to give it a try next time I go fishing.
  22. I wouldn't. I love my curado reels. Super easy to palm and extremely strong. I fish it in fresh and saltwater all the time. I'm trying to fish this reel to the limits and as of this moment I still haven't met my match, at least not yet. Anyways the curado is very smooth on the retrieve, can cast weightless baits no problem, and can be found very cheap in the $130-150 range which is a better deal than the pflueger patriarch.
  23. go with the owner dropshot hook. I go as small as I can especially when fishing in grassy or rocky areas. My favorite size is 2.
  24. I have used the anaconda, the eeliminator, the baby paca craw and the smokin' rooster. My favorite so far is the anaconda. A slight movement and its tail is moving. It works best when I want to slow down and let the bass get a good look at my lure, but rarely does it take that long. The baby paca craw is very good, even texas rigged with a 1/8oz weight. I haven't caught any bass on the eeliminator but love its action, and as for the smokin rooster, it's a great pitching and flipping bait, but I've only caught a few fish on it and that's it. As for color my favorite is bama craw at this time. Oh by the way BIG TOM, that's a very nice video.
