  1. This is the exact setup I have except with 20lb power pro. For the price this is a great rod.
  2. I bought a rod guide kit with various sizes #1 to #6. What I don't know is are the size #1's the smaller ones in the kit or the largest ones. The reason I'm asking is I would like to get even smaller ones than what the kit came with but not sure if to get smaller ones if I need to go with the higher number or smaller number? Thanks in.advance fellas.
  3. The setup you have should be fine. Use 6 or 8lb berkley xl in the red package. Stay away from the xt(blue packages). The xl stands for extra limp. Xt stands for extra tough. The Xt is a stiffer line and does not work well on spinning equipment.
  4. I have read a ton of bass books and the one I read over and over is KVD's Bass Strategies. Just a ton of good info in there on basic fish catching and why he does what he does.
  5. Fisherman are known to overexagerate. I think there may be a little of that going on in this thread.
  6. This would be a great setup for the spooks your using. I wouldn't be afraid to throw any topwater on spinning tackle. If need be, beef up the spinning rod your using and up the poundage of braid also. I know guys that use nothing but spinning tackle and they are at no disadvantage as the equipment is every bit as versatile as baitcasters.
  7. This is a great thread! Lots of info. I will say this I look forward to reading WRB's and Catts post when ever I'm lucky enough to run across them. Very informational and thought provoking. We are all probably members of more than a couple different outdoor sites, maybe not but I am and when visiting these sites certain members you really listen to what they have to say. For some reason they just speak to you at another level. A couple others are Francho and Dwite Hottle. That being said I think there may be a little jealousy floating around on this thread.
  8. Shelly Sanders besides from being easy on the eyes is very well spoken. They should have her doing on the water interviews. As far as coverage, yeah they did show a few of the bigger catches a few to many times but overall I had no trouble sitting through fours hours(?) of tourney coverage which IMO says alot. I enjoyed it immensely. Also in another thread people were making it sound like Howwel was lieing about using a Livingston lure. After watching the coverage it didn't seem that way. The lures very closely resembled eachother and during an on the water interview he said he used the Livingston for a bit deeper applications. I'm a new fan of Howell. Seems like a genuinely good person. I will say this is the first classic I have ever watched and got a bit choked up. Maybe I'm turning into a big softy.
  9. They are nice spinnerbaits. I did have one snap last year after catching a few decent fish which made me a little leary but it has only happened once. Really like their jigs.
  10. Al Lindner by far. Just seems like an awsome dude in general and has to be one of the best all around fishermen as in multi species angler. My species of choice changes with the season as well. For bass fishing KVD, The guy amazes me and he's a great teacher. Edwin Evers like his personality, seems like a good ole boy. Brent Ehrler, class act. Randal Tharpe I like.
  11. Glad I live in a red state.
  12. Another that I buy off ebay when I can find them is the blue/chrome Rebel minnow with the thatch work on the side. I now own many from years of searching ebay. For some reason the blue/chrome is the hardest to come by.
  13. Old style berkley frenzy cranks. I still buy them off ebay. Not the filcker shads,
  14. Randy seems like a good fella. I'm glad he won,
  15. Alley is good. Another is http://fishermensheaven.com. They also have great deals on tungsten weights. Plus free shipping.
  16. When the fishing is tough I use the turtleback worms. They get bites when nothing else will for largemouth.
  17. I agree. the penalty was definately fitting the crime. Cheating is no different than robbery. You have 99% of the people paying they're entry fees and agreeing to play by the rules and one guy cheating in an attempt STEAL other peoples money. I can't stand cheaters.
  18. Cocoons. Check them out , they fit over your prescriptions.
  19. If I could only choose one color for all time use it would be amber hands down.
  20. I switched EWG from Gamm to Mustads and had the same problem. My hookup percentages with the Mustads were terrible. So I threw them in the junk box and went back to Gammas. The problem I found with the Mustads were that the angle of the hook point points directly back at the line tie. The Gammas stick out past the line tie probably 3/16 of an inch and thats all it takes for the good hooking percentages with the Gammas. Sounds like you solved your problem but just so you know it isn't always the angler sometimes it can actually be the hook itself.
  21. Curious what you guys are using for swimjig trailers and what may be a good alternative to the Rage Craws? Have been using Rage Craws and think they are awsome but the durability stinks and they are expensive. Seems you get a nibble and there goes one of the pinchers. I do love the action and was hoping to find a bait with similar action thats more durable and if possible less expensive. Some that I was thinking about were the Netbait Kicking B and the Zoom Speed Craws, if you have any experience with these it would be nice to hear the pros and cons. Also any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks fellers.
  22. Evers, KVD aned Ehrler. Evers and Ehrler just seem like good guys and great fisherman. With KVD I think I'm just amazed by how he can figure them out. Also I seem to like Ike a little more every tourney I watch him fish.
  23. I heard once if you want to make money fish FLW and if you want to be famous fish BASS. It seems about right since FLW has $125,000 payouts for first, BASS $100,000. More money could be the reason Ehrlers sticking with FLW. And really who is claiming that the BASS guys are the best besides THIER announcers. I'd put Ehrler, Martens, and Dudley amoung others against anyone fishing BASS. Also that Jacob Wheeler kid is gonna be a force to be reckoned with.
  24. I like Zona's show. Everytime I see that clip of him kissing James Overstreet in the head I can't help but crack up.
