I've got all sorts of nice reels. But for frogging I'd get a Fuego CT. Deeper spool than sv spooled reels. Spool axle is extended and supported throughout its length. Like $90. It's not sexy and that might be a bummer but a frog reel/set up just needs to work consistently.

Shorter rod? I smash with a 6ft 6in rod. I also don't fish it that slow. Length (pull) and speed of rod twitches took a bit to get down.

Used shimano citca E reels. Heck they were $40 back when they were being closed out. It's one bearing from Chronarch E. (Aside from the handle).

I think contrast helps in stained water. Blue or black back Chartruese cranks vs all Chartruese. I'm letting a Champlain secret out. Chartruese with green pumpkin skirt and 2 Chartruese blades. Kills on the Missisquoi area. Try a gp or black trailer.

Yes, MOJO weight z-craw and shorter leader (~1/2 height of the weeds, at most). Screwlock hook is your friend. It's more of a reaction thing as you will have to pump the rod more. 1 ounce weight helps. The rockcrawler will stop in a crag of rocks. Lift it straight up and it'll pop out. Try them!
