  1. Only time I wait is if I'm not positive it was a bite or not, and that's only with soft plastics that they tend to hold onto longer. With a jig, I'm swinging at anything I think might be a bite.
  2. My oldest is 4 now and has the same interest in fishing and the water in general as I did when I was little. He likes to tell people about how much he loves going fishing with me, I hope he continues feeling that way as he gets old enough to make his own decisions.
  3. Well the extreme cold has made it difficult to get much work done on the boat. I've bought the new coupler, wiring and lights for the trailer, new jack, and a new trolling motor along with several small things to get ready for when things warm up enough that it's not dangerous to be outside more than 5 minutes. I got the trailer ready for primer, primed, and started painting today. I got the top and sides coated, just have to do the bottom side and it will be done. Took the tires off so I could paint the fenders as well, I'll take the time to replace the bearings and probably going to put new wheels and tires on it since the wheels look terrible and the tires are dry rotting.
  4. There's tons of drum in Wolf, I just didn't catch any. My boat sits low on the trailer and I had to back in until my back bumper was almost touching the water.
  5. Ned Kehde often makes reference to the Slider head, Charlie Brewer, Chuck Woods and the beetle, guys who developed baits and techniques that he's taken parts from to develop the Midwest Finesse fishing style.
  6. I don't catch any of them, I deal with them after they're caught, they're not intelligent folks for the most part. Most have just been doing it since they were kids or teens, so they have a lot of practice and know where to look to find the good stuff.
  7. My wife and I took our boys to Springfield to see the new Wonders of Wildlife Museum and Aquarium next to BPS this past weekend. I've wanted to go since I first heard they were building it, many years ago. It finally opened so we decided to take a weekend to drive down and take the boys to do something fun. The place is amazing. We spent over 5 hours walking around and I feel like you could spend a week in there and never really see everything. First thing when we walked in, Lake spotted the aquarium straight ahead and the Goliath Grouper drew him in like a moth to a flame. Everything was so well put together and thought out, you kind of just get lost walking around and looking at everything.
  8. Lots of fish yesterday, including my first 3 smallmouth of the year. They were little, but I was glad to see them. Several nice largemouth, one of my biggest of the day smashed a Savage Gear Shine Glide.
  9. La Cygne was tough Monday, 6 bites, 2 fish, both little. Wolf was good yesterday, tons of wipers, quite a few whites, lots of largemouth, a few smallmouth, a channel cat, a flathead, and NO DRUM!!
  10. Took the family to Wonders of Wildlife in Springfield this weekend, it was awesome!
  11. Yes, most of them really are dumb, trust me.
  12. Couldn't keep the fish from swallowing my baits yesterday. Wipers were super aggressive and most every one of the 3 dozen I caught had my bait like this. I had a first also, my first flathead from this lake, on a homemade bladed jig.
  13. Looks nice, I just hope it doesn't mean they're discontinuing Super Power now
  14. If you're referring to the spinning rod, yes it would work for a drop shot, even with a heavier weight since you're usually not casting a drop shot much.
  15. Thanks, it has been a great year so far. I've caught more fish over 6 pounds in the first 3 weeks of this year than I did in the last 4 years combined!
  16. Bad thing is, you could make that drive and completely blank really easily. I fished Monday in the rain, sleet, and snow (normally means good fishing in the winter there), for 2 fish with the biggest being 2.5lbs. The guy that went with me never had a bite. My best baits have been a shakyhead, beaver on a homemade brush jig shakyhead, and a jerkbait. Shakyhead Beaver on the homemade brush jig/shakyhead
  17. Lost a nice one yesterday to a hook at the back of the tongue. Swallowed a RES and even with the hooks quickly removed and swam away quickly when I released it, she was floating on her side 30' from the boat 5 minutes later. 21" length limit, fish was probably 18-19 inches long, so there was nothing I could do but leave it for the eagles. It's going to happen if you fish enough, something you'll just have to deal with.
  18. KS and MO was it for me, and I only fished in Missouri 2 or 3 times, the rest were all in KS.
  19. Welcome!
  20. La Cygne fishes terrible when it's nice out in the winter. They like it to be nasty outside before they'll bite well. I know a lot of guys that were there yesterday and saw 1 picture of a 12" fish.
  21. Well I was wrong, there's 2-3 inches of ice on the ramp at La Cygne and it's basically frozen from the ramp cove south and clear across the lake.
  22. A homemade football jig caught my biggest largemouth of last year, 6.65 pounds. Already caught 2 bigger than that this year I didn't catch a smallmouth worth remembering last year unfortunately thanks to constant high water conditions.
  23. I believe I have a deeper running Big Jim in kind of a crappie/splatterback pattern if you want it? I've kept it as kind of a nostalgic decoration in my shop but no reason for it to fade into oblivion if someone would get some use out of it.
