What RW said--for me too! I caught 6 or 7 Bass day before yesterday when the water temp was 93 degrees. Hooked a big one too but she got off and other Bass were chasing bait fish in the shallows. And this is from one of those "old fellas" . A Bass's metabolism is energized by warm/hot water. They will be where the water is oxygenated and that means shallow for the most part. Earlier last week, I caught two 4's, three 3s, and several smaller Bass. All were in 2-4' of water and all took a weightless Swimming Senko. It was near 100 degrees air temp that day. Dan Dan

Hmmmmm. I'd say there may be no big Bass in that pond. It happens. It can be from poor genetics and/or poor management with not enough forage fish or too many Bass. If there are Crappie in there and it's a pond that is less than 10 acres, the Crappie will overtake it. Big Bass may not go deep during the summer months as the lower depths may be oxygen-poor. Warmer water should perk Bass up as they are cold blooded... I've found some very big(for this area) Bass in very shallow water around here. Had one on yesterday but failed to get a good enough hookset and she spit the hook back at me. That was on a weightless Swimming Senko. I watched the Bass inhale the bait...in 2' of hot(93 degrees F) water and believe me, she was not sluggish. Dan

Thanks again y'all. 520dvx: Since all of those were caught in very shallow water, the movement didn't make that much of a difference. For instance, I saw that second 4 lber ahead in about 2' of water and off to my right as I tossed(half way between a cast and a pitch ) the SS out ahead of my little boat. I just pulled it towards me and killed it right next to the Bass. She moved over to it and just sucked it in with no other action from me or the SS. Most of the time, I just let it fall a foot or two and then I raise my rod tip upwards and draw the SS back near the top and then I let it flutter down on semi-slack line. Dan

Avid: What a memory you have! Actually, it was Michael Kors for Men 8-) The SSs work either weightless or with a weight. I caught another 3 lber but no pics as she flopped off of the scale's hook before I could grab her. The SS was all they wanted there today out of all the other baits I tried. Thanks nc. Give them a try. They are not as 'fragile' as the original Senkos. Dan

Went to the swamp pond today. Started at about 11 AM with partially cloudy skies, lots of sun(low 90s), windy-off/on, and water temps at 85 degrees throughout the 3.5 hours I fished. Got a 4 lber right off and then followed two 3s, another 4, and another 3 with a couple of dinks and keepers(no pics) thrown in. All of them were caught in 2-4' of stained water. I watched the second 4 lber suck the Swimming Senko in as she moved right in front of the boat. Two of the Bass took me into some of those pads you see in the background. All were caught on a weightless, #222 Swimming Senko rigged on a 4/0 GY Sugoi hook. First 4 lber 3/11 3/10 Second 4 lber 3/3 Dan

The rod is more important IMO. Sure, you need a reel that will store line and allow for casting whatever bait you choose and then have the drag system that can wear down a Bass but the rod makes for great casts, feeling the bite, and also wearing the fish down. Either can be a thing of beauty: Dan
