First Fish on a Jig! Oooh Yeah!
Yep, a black/blue jig/trailer combo is a universal, go-to color configuration. I also use browns and greens. Dan

Our very own LightninRod!
Whoa! Just saw this thread. That's a pic from a few years ago. I bought several Heliums and championed them(as I still do) on several fishing boards. I now use two of them along with my newer MB rods. As for the "irony" of my screen name, I chose it based on my 2001 F150 Lightning(hot rod) truck a few years ago. Never owned a Lightningrod ' Dan

In appreciation of snakes
Wonderful pics and info Rowland. I collected and kept non-poisonous snakes when I was a teenager. This was in and around the Everglades and South Florida. I had a dozen or more in cages in my bedroom. My favorite was the Indigo. It is the only snake I know of that will not bite a human. They will pretend to hurt you by pressing the hardened end of their tail into your flesh but won't bite. I caught water snakes out of the canals on the edge of the Glades as well as corn/rat snakes out of the Australian Pines that bordered the canals. King snakes were common too. Also caught a 6' Coachwhip on my aunt's farm in Tallahassee, Florida and only because it was in the shedding phase and couldn't see. They are very quick. Eastern Indigo snake. Dan

Fenwick vs Loomis vs Kistler Rods
Well, I'll be the "odd man out" here and recommend(highly!) the Kistler Helium model you're considering. Their sensitivity is unparalleled IMO. You won't get tired as quickly using one as they weigh about 4 ounces. Dan

Spiral Wrapped Guides
I use this one for cr/baits. I love the rod but I'm not sure the spiral-wrapped guides make that much of a difference. Dan

Here are all of the GY baits including Senkos and several Grubs. You may have been thinking about this Senko? It has a paddle-like tail. Dan
