  1. I broke a rod doing that a few years back trying to free a tube. I didn't think I was even pulling that hard when I heard a crack. It me a second before I could wrap my head around that I had just broken the rod in two.
  2. Texas rigged plastic, jig and craw, weightless fluke or senko, spinnerbait or chatterbait, and a shallow running crankbait if you can get away with it.
  3. Very rarely do I ever peg my t-rigs. When I absolutely have to peg the weight I just get a piece of old line and tie a bobber stopper knot around the main line.
  4. Over the past 10 years my top crankbait has been either a Mann's baby one minus, or a KVD 1.5.
  5. I like fishing with 1/8 jigs in clear water. Mostly watermelon or green pumpkin colors. Be careful with the trailers, sometimes with the small jigs the bass like a more compact presentation so I'll thread the trailer over the entire hook.
  6. Yes next weekend will get here.
  7. I use purchaser reviews as a starting place. If I see a trend then I start checking different forums to see what is posted about the product.
  8. About 44 years ago I learned how to cast out a baitcaster and get good distance with it. About 45 years ago I learned how to dig out backlashes with a knitting needle. Now I always keep one in the tackle bag.
  9. I'm glad I replaced my older equipment two years ago. Time to clean up and put hooks on those lures I found.
  10. Weatherman is saying that it's going to be in the 50's this coming week and maybe stay in the high 40's next weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed!
  11. Man, nice one!
  12. I'm planning on changing the oil and spark plugs in the yard machines this weekend. I want to get this stuff done before the water warms up.
  13. It depends on how well the trip went as a whole. Sometimes I can look back and say I still had a pretty good trip, and other times I say why did I even go fishing that day.
  14. Winter wasn't too bad here until around the middle of January. Then we got some payback for all of those nice days in December, and early January.
  15. There have been a lot of times over the years when I have been working a jig and feel one hard tap. I've learned to stop the jig when that happens and let it sit for a few seconds. The bass will come back and start swimming off with it. If I continue working the jig back after that one tap, then no more bites. I'm thinking the bass is trying to stun or injure the jig to make it easier to eat.
  16. A successful trip for me is not getting skunked.
  17. It started out last night as rain, then changed over to freezing rain, and sleet. Luckily we didn't get too much of that. Now we have about 3" of snow over the frozen stuff. Tonight it's going to snow again. We will get around 6" to 9" of more snow before it stops tomorrow night. Way better than the 20" of snow they were forecasting a couple of days ago.
  18. Sorry about your boat. That sucks. I hope the insurance company comes through for you.
  19. That's a big honkin bass.
  20. I started fishing 55 years ago when my dad got me a Johnson Century 100A reel on a kiddie rod.
  21. I consider jerkbaits to be a moving bait. For moving baits I have 3 rigs depending on the weight of the bait and where I will be fishing it. 6'6" m/f spinning rod with a Pflueger President, 6'6" m/f bc rod with a Shimano SLX, and a 7'0" mh/f bc rod with a Tatula CT100H.
  22. I keep my leaders around the 18" to 24" length.
  23. Look up ahead of where the boater is fishing and pick out the spots you are going to cast into before you get to them.
  24. I never buy a product when it first comes out. I give it a while then start reading reviews from different sources.
