How much bullet weight is necessary
The weight I use depends on the water depth, where in the water column are the bass I want to catch, and what is between me and the bass. Most of the time I will use 1/8 to 1/4 ounce weights, but sometimes I fish 1/2 to 1 oz. I fish a lake where the larger bass stay near the bottom, and the little bass are up in the water column. The little bass will grab a slow sinking bait before it can get down to the large bass.

Body wash or soap
The doctor told me to use Dove because of my dry skin. I use that most of the year, but there are times that nothing beats good old Dial.

Limiting internet
I check out the local news, and some national sites. I read the headlines, but rarely do I read the entire story.

Coffee - Whats your brand and how do you drink it?
I like mine black, hot, and a lot of it. Folger's at work, but on a road trip it's Quick Trip. I usually don't drink much coffee at home.

Lbs of drag?
I used to use a weight and scale to set my drag. Now I do it by feel. One thing I learned was that the line pulling through the guides adds some drag also.

New spots vs Old Reliable
Go try a new fishing spot. You can always go back to your old fishing spot on the next trip.

Blizzard Warning!
I don't worry too much about snow any more. It's the freezing rain and the other drivers that I worry about.

Early season topwater bite
I usually start fishing topwater baits around the end of April, beginning of May timeframe. If we are having a warm spring I will start fishing them earlier, maybe at the start of April.

What is your craziest fishing story?
I was reminded of this by a friend. About 7 or 8 years ago I was fishing on this pond. One side of the pond backed up to some thick woods, and the other side was against a very large field. I was fishing on the wooded side, and had my spinning rig propped up against a tree while fishing with the bc reel. All of a sudden I start hearing whistling sounds behind me. I look around and nothing is there. The whistle stops after a couple seconds and I go back to fishing. It happens two more times, and I'm starting to get rattled. I know this area, and I have fished this pond a lot over the years. I don't know of anything that would be making that sound in these woods. I pick up my gear and start walking around to the other side of the pond that is open. From that side I can see all of the wooded side. I'm about 1/2 way around and I hear that whistling again. This time I can tell where it's coming from. It's the wind blowing through the holes in my spinning reel spool.

Selling off reels/rods
Be sure you want to sell them. You don't want to be kicking yourself the day after you get rid of them.

Bass thumb (kind of)
I've never heard of the spines breaking off. Usually they go in and out like an ice pick.

Winter 2020-2021
We've been lucky so far. The majority of the ice and snow has either gone north or south of us. We did get a little bit of freezing rain on Friday night, but it was mostly gone by Saturday afternoon.

your first baitcasting reel
Daiwa Millionaire 5B which was bought back in the summer of 1977. I started using it in '78 after my dad bought a Millionaire 5HS.

Sharpen hooks, practice knots, take the family out to the lake for a lure hunting trip.

How do you choose a new rod?
I try and stick with one brand for bottom contact baits because I have a good idea how those rods feel. For moving baits I don't have a specific brand I stick to. I am looking for rod with some bend, and some backbone.

Blade Bait Rod?
I use a 7'0" mh/f for 1/2 oz chatterbaits, and a 6'6" mh/f for 3/8 oz chatterbaits. Both rods bend like a medium rod.

Skin Cancer
My dad was a blue eyed redhead. He would always use sun block or cover up with clothing. He got skin cancer on his lips, and had part of his lower lip shaved off to remove the cancer. Now I always carry a lip balm with me and reapply to my lips when I reapply the sunblock.

Saving Bass Population During a Pond Makeover
The fish in the pond will need to be relocated to another body of water that is similar in size, or the fish will need to be spread out over several ponds.
