Wow. Bad time to need to restock on baits.
Just bought the last spool of 1500 yd 10 lb line at my BPS. It's BPS Excel brand. That place is completely wiped out of fishing line.

Use your reward points.
I guess times are a changing. I went up to BPS to see what was in the bargain bins. At the check out they told me I didn't have any reward points on my card. I went up to the service counter and they reloaded my points on the card. I was told that the reward points no longer last forever. The points are only good for 3 months now.

Midday Summer Struggles
Around here low visibility in the summer means lack of vegetation below the water line. Add in the heat and the bass are probably not moving much due to the oxygen level in the water being below average. I'd do what has already been mentioned and look for deep structure. You might try around those pumps if they are moving water in and out of the lake.

Cherish the moments
I’m sorry for your loss. My mom passed 15 years ago next month. At first Dad didn’t really want to do anything. I took him fishing one weekend and he snapped out of it and finally said he had a good time and was glad that we got out.

Keeping track of bass caught
I’ve been keeping track of number of fish, species, location, bait used, weather, and water conditions for about 15 years now. It’s interesting to look at the spreadsheet in the winter when I can’t get out.

What's more important?
I go out to catch bass. Most of my catches will be around a pound and I'm OK with that. Then I look back at my log and decide I have caught enough small bass it's time for some hawgs.

Big Bass: topwater, crank baits or soft plastics?
Most of my larger bass have been caught on slow moving bottom contact jigs, or plastics. A few have been caught in the spring and fall on moving baits. My PB was caught on a topwater during the summer.

Use more breaks or rely solely on my thumb?
I learned to use a baitcaster back in the late 70's so I use my thumb.

Shallow cranks
Mann’s -1, Mann’s baby -1, and BPS egg. With the egg you need to swap out the hooks first thing.

Confidence
I don't have confidence in a single bait, but from past experience I have confidence that a type of bait will work in a given body of water. For instance I know that crankbaits will work in local lake #1, but in local lake #2 the bass prefer bottom contact plastics. In lake #1 I'm going to use a crankbait and I know I will catch bass on a crankbait, but until I discover the mood of the bass I may cast 5 or 6 different crankbaits.

What is your cut off point/price on rods and reels?
I'll spend around $150 for each unless I get a good deal. My last Curado only cost me about $20 because of gift cards and rewards points.

Decks
The deck that came with the house was torn down in 2007 and rebuilt. It gets power washed and stained about every 3 years or when it needs it.

How much does the lure have to be worth before you'll go swimming?
I have never gone into a pond after a bait before, but I have walked around the pond later in the year to see if the bait has floated free of its snag.

Time
Most of the time I can only fish on Saturday or Sunday right now. About every two months I can take a couple of days off work and get out on the water. Every few years the job gets so hectic that I don't fish for one or two months during the season. Hopefully I will be able to retire sometime between the next four and six years. When I do I intend to make up for lost time.

When color didn't matter
I think that when the bass fishing is dependent on color there is more going on than just the color of the bait.

Coping with the crowds this year
It's been a circus on some of the lakes that I fish. Most of the people coming out to the lake are parking and fishing right off of the ramp, or trying to park as close as possible to the water. About 9 AM is when the first wave of crowds show up. They leave about noon and the afternoon crowd comes in right behind them. I've been hiking about a mile to a mile and a half down the lake to get into some less pressured water.

How many casts to one target?
It depends on the target. If the target is coontail I will make a lot of casts just because there will be a lot of places for a bass to hide, and a lot of cover that will block the fish’s vision. Structure may be more open so I won’t make as many casts to that.

Eatin' a little humble pie--difference between pond and reservoir fishing
Fishing ponds I fish around cover. Fishing a reservoir I start out looking for, and fishing around structure. I don’t always use electronics on a pond or small lake, but on a large reservoir I look at maps first the look at the fish finder.

$64,000 Question ~
When will my kids move out so I will have some extra cash to buy a boat?
