  1. Really hard to tell by the photo. There's some stuff the industry uses similar to bondo as a filler/leveler. Bondo isn't suitable for boating applications as it will absorb water if it remains moist for long periods of time. I can't remember the name of the stuff though.
  2. I used to have a chart that showed a graphic example of how a young person could set aside very little money in his younger years and wind up a millionaire by the time he hit age 65. Basically, it showed an 18 year old, investing just $2000 a year for just 8 years until he was 26, into funds that returned around 10% each year, would grow to $1,000,000 by the time he was 65. That's just $16,000 total invested for 8 years and then nothing else after that. It also showed how someone who waited to start investing until he was 30 but set aside twice the amount of money in the same funds until he retired could never catch up to the 18 year old investor. While 10% is a stretch, $16k isn't a lot of money either. The sooner you start the better chance you're not having to worry about whether Social Security will be around when you get that age. I wish I had.
  3. Global warming in reverse.
  4. Double space after all, comma's. Triple space after periods. It works.
  5. They usually used an epoxy/resin based glue to mount those. I took a chisel and a hammer to mine. I chipped away a lot of the bead around the outside edge and then put the chisel right on the base/hull joint and gave it a quick pop with the hammer. It popped right up.
  6. i runt dis threw the spel cheker an it came out purty good hope mike lieks it i think it wurks reel gud
  7. Lotta lakes must be iced over already. It's only December 10th and the threads are already starting to go down the toilet.
  8. I've used that outdoor carpet from both Lowes and HD. While it looks the same, the Lowes carpet is better. The backing on the HD stuff is thin and inconsistant. I've had glue actually bleed through the backing when laying the stuff. No problems with the Lowes when I installed it on my 12 foot semi V this year. Honestly though, if you really want a nice looking job that lasts longer I'd go with the carpet sold by BPS, Cabela's or some of the other bass boat carpet sellers. You get a choice of colors, the pile is thicker and more plush. It's actually designed for fishing with no loops in the fabric which can catch fish hooks (one of the downfalls for the Lowes/HD stuff). For the size boat you're looking at, you'll be looking at < $100 for carpet plus utility knife, blades, glue, etc. Well worth the money IMO. Carpet color is a personal choice. I'm going from a very dark gunmetal to a light grey. Yep, dark colors get pretty hot when summer time fishing. Yep, light colors tend to hold stains easier. It's a trade off really.
  9. Oh great, drunk posting. And I thought half of muddy's post were hard to read. ;D
  10. Good to see you can take a little ribbin without getting all worked up. You should fit in here great.
  11. Did you leave the nap on the edges. If so, what gap did you have between panels? My compartment lids are measured out to be approx. 1/8-1/4 inch below the carpeted deck. After I wrap the comp. lids I'll shave the underside right down to a nub. If I leave the pile as it is, the compartment won't close down all the way and it will also be uneven with the deck surface. In any boat recarpet job, if you use 20oz and especially 24 oz, you may find it difficult to open compartment lids due to the pile thickness. This can also be aleviated by shaving the sides of the compartments carpet.
  12. The next big world terror fear. 14 year old hacks the ICBM missle launch codes and uses Google earth to direct his strikes!
  13. Team pampers needs a forum. Most of the posts will be about how to get a girl to notice them and what to do with one if they ever get one. Mod - Fourbizz
  14. Upright, no reels. Thanks for bringing up the legal issues. I'm checking on state law to make sure this is legal. I've heard the rod n reel police in Missouri are tough and will perform search and seizure missions without warning. I'd hate to lose everything because of ignorance.
  15. On my primary mhvy spinnerbait rod I use either 15lb realine copoly or will step up to a 17lb on lakes with really thick cover. On my lighter rod I throw 12lb rapala tough. The line is no longer made. It's basically a Trilene XT type of line but a little limper which casts easier.
  16. I'm afraid you're talking about a very heavy finished product, even at 12 feet. Not exactly something that's going to be toteable from the back of a pickup very easily. I'd be thinking putting this project on a trailer for starters. Depends on the weight of the carpet. 16,20 or 24oz carpet has varying thicknesses depending on the manufacturer. You can always use a razor or a set of electric hair trimmers to trim the fabric down to a stub. I've alotted 1/4" on my deck insert carpet redo project.
  17. This isn't so much a forum for questions like: "My Shimano E reel broke again, is this thing a POS or not?" or "My new Shimano Cumara broke again, is this thing a POS or not?" Those would still be answered in the rod and reel forum. This is more a place where those that buy and use specific reels like the STX, New Pflueger President, Daiwa reels, new rod (insert brand here) can give their likes and dislikes. Many, many of the redundant questions posted about specific reels or rods could be answered if they read the posts in the brand specific threads.
  18. I have two rods. The primary is an All Star IM10X 6'8" Mhvy fast, great for buzz baits and most spinnerbaits over 3/8oz. the second is a TAS 6'4" med fast which I throw smaller 1/4 oz baits with.
  19. Got some more done on the boat yesterday but today,..... no way. Just too cold even with the kerosene heater. Anyone got Al Gores phone number, I want to know what happened to 80 degree winters. :
  20. If that's the Shakespeare bulk spool mono they sell at Wal-mart for 99 cents, I hang my head in shame.
  21. I recently purchased a Team All Star Big Boy 7'2" Mhvy for pitching and froggin. Previously I had used a 7' Titanium Mhvy rod. The big boy's have an extra layer of graphite wrapped on them for strength. It's a very stout rod. A 7' mhvy should do you fine. I've had no trouble over the years pulling fish out of heavy milfoil with rods of less length and stiffness.
  22. You can find video on youtube of the 176 in action with a 75hp motor. Even with that engine there's still a lot of boat dragging through the water. Couple that with a less than aggressive v-hull and you'll get wet along with being beaten pretty good in rough water. Probably a great boat for lakes that aren't known to kick up. Looks like a nice stable fishing platform.
  23. In this neck of the woods, Missouri, I'm betting the lake temps have also dropped below normal for this time of year. We've been in a North Westerly upper air pattern for a few months now. If I was going to go fishing I'd probably do the following. Pick a clearer lake. I've always done better this time of year on lakes that aren't normally off colored. Jerkbaits. In late fall you'll start to notice shad die off. It's usually the larger fellows. They'll be floating on their sides barely kicking waiting for their maker to take them to the promised land. They're easy pickins for larger bass. I'd look for wind blown banks with cover and work the baits much like in the spring. Spoons. Find deeper shad pods and look for the fish under them. I'd concentrate around the ends of points that end on a creek channel. Jig n frog. I like bottom bouncing these on steeper rock banks or bluff ends. Spinnerbaits. Choose a heavier bait, at least 1/2oz with a smaller willow and s-l-o roll it. The smaller willow blade will spin easier and allow the bait to stay deeper vs a colorado or Indiana which tend to cause the bait to rise. Crankbaits. I've never had much luck with cranks. You can load them with suspend dots or strips to keep them down but for some reason the aggressive nature of the bait just doesn't seem to draw the strikes.
