Fat Largemouth, spotted bass or hybrid???
Do you have a closeup of the head to right behind the gills? We could check that against # 3 in my previous post.

Fat Largemouth, spotted bass or hybrid???
I believe it is a spotted bass. Can't get away from the fact the mouth doesnt go behind the eye. Also, I copied the following from www.conservation.state.mo.us /conmag/1998/03/20.htm (see #3 below) 1. Check for horizontal stripe and length of jaw Largemouth and spotted bass both have a dark horizontal line on each side of their bodies. Smallmouth bass lack this horizontal line, but may have vertical bars instead. The back edge of the jaw of largemouth bass extends beyond the back of their eyes, unlike the jaw of a spotted bass. 2. Check for a tongue patch Spotted bass (and most smallmouth bass) have a rough patch on their tongues. Largemouth bass usually do not. If it doesn't have a tongue patch it has to be a largemouth. 3. Check the size of the scales behind the eye The scales right behind the eyes of largemouth bass are nearly as large as those behind the gill openings. On spotted bass, the scales right behind the eyes are much smaller than the ones behind the gills. triangle

Ethics question
Live bait is live bait. Nightcrawlers, worms, minnows, shiners, small bluegills, whats' the difference? Heck, the size of shiners ol' Roadwarrior uses is the size of a small bluegill, LOL!

Carolina Rig Tips
Great Idea, RR! I think you might be onto something here. I have been using lizards on my c-rig 100% of the time. But it is getting much cooler here, and I should probably change up my bait. Thanks for the tip. I am going to try tomorrow.

Most difficult
I think that even more so than the rod, the line is important. I've switched over to power pro and it is a world of difference from mono. So much more sensitive. I also used PP steelhead fishing during one outing this year and could definitely feel the bottom as I was tumbling spawn downstream better with the PP than with mono. Yeah, good point. I use Yo-Zuri Hybrid (Thanks to Roadwarrior). The water I fish is very clear and reluctant to use the braids. YoZuri has worked well for me for the most part. Obvioulsy with braids there is no stretch, hence the more sensitivity. But again, I fish very clear waters. (That's the good news and the Bad news) :-/

Most effective techniques
Two things for me. T-rigged Senkos, and C-rigged Lizards. (Zoom Cotton Candy) and Doc Waters lizards. If I could only have one lizard brand, it would be Doc Waters. For what it's worth.

Most difficult
Jigs! I have yet to get it down right and get the feel for the "bite on the drop". :-[ As far a c-rigs go. I have tremendously improved my c-rig fishing by buying the most sensitive rod I could afford. I went out and bought a G-Loomis. Rigged correctly with weight, length of leader, I can feel every little bump, etc, that the c-rig travels. I believe the most important part of the c-Rig is a very sensitive rod! It has helped me alot.

Silly question, I know, BUT????
I read everywhere about bass hitting a lure on the "fall". Assuming the lure is falling on slack line, how do you tell when you have a strike? I have struggled with this concept for some time and just have to ask. I still don't seem to feel any strikes on the fall; not until I start the retrieve. HELP!! :-/ :'(

Winter Survival
I plan on fishing this winter. We get no ice here. So that is no problem. My wife and I just wnet out two weeks ago and bought me some Under Armour long johns and long sleeve shirt, fishing gloves, many types of hats, neck warmer, and waterproof insulated (camo) bibs and matching insulated coat made by Gamehide. I am ready for the big chill. Bring it on!

Barometric pressure
If I am not mistaken, there is no such thing as a High pressure cold front. If it is a cold front is due to low pressure.

Favorite fishing partner
I too like to fish alone. The solitude and all, can't be beat. However, if I do take someone fishing, I enjoy taking my 22 yr.old son, Jacob (Jake)! When we go together, we both let our hair down and talk about things going on in our lives and we both have a great time fishing. Once the fish are on, the braggin starts! ;D It's a blast!
