Gestation period
Gestation means, "The period of development in the uterus from conception until birth; pregnancy." I don't know that this would be the proper terminology used for bass...???? :-/

Something everyone can use...Class in session
Ok, I have been a member of this forum for over a year now. I have learned a lot! One thing I have found is that there is so much information here (in all the posts) that is gets confusing to remember where I might have read a techique or anecdote that would be very useful. So, I would like to ask you guys to provide us your most favorite techique. In other words, "What is your favorited way to fish? Bait, rod, reel, tactics, line, type of water you use this technique in, etc. With Spring coming, I think we could all use some ideas that have proved effective and productive from our forum members. When this thread runs its' course, I am going to print it off and keep in my boat. Thanks!

ughhh
I have learned over the years, "The best way to learn something is to teach it". Think about that...... If you want to learn about a specific technique, I would suggest you go about it as if you were going to give a lecture on it. This way, you will find you put yourself on both sides of the equation; teacher and student. You research the subject as the teacher, and as you do, you will start asking questions as a student. This way it will prepare you to find those answers. Pick out one technique that you have thought about learning. Then approach it as if you are going to have to teach it to a class...... I bet you'll be surprised how well you will learn it! -Greg

Ike and the haters
I too agree with the Ali -Ike comparison. The thing about Ali is that HE BACKED IT UP! As I know Ike can back it up. So let it be. I think Ike is great for our sport! A fresh, new face to a sport of passion.

Does anyone have a stereo in their bass boat?
Why not just buy an ipod or something. You can use it fishing and anywhere else. No need for all the install issues, etc. Besides, one of the things that really irks me is to listen the loud sounds coming form other boats, (skiers, etc) when I am out on the water. That being said, when I fish, the last thing I want to do is listen to a stereo system.. One of the things about out on t he water and fishing are the 'natural" sounds all around. For me I like to get away from all the "noise" and relax and just enjoy nature at its' finest. ..........But that's just me. I am sure my age has everything to do with it, young fella! ;D

how many lakes
Three typically. I have found a new lake in Sonoma COunty, California near where my son is going to school. So in a few months I will say 4 lakes. (The new one is where the gal a few years back caught a 22#-8oz LMB! The lake is 74 acres and 7-15 ft deep. Just trolling motors allowed. I can't wait.

Who introduced you to fishing?
Well, I wish I could say my dad. But it wasn't. I got myself into fishing after catching my first little bluegill in a city park back in Indiana at about 10 yrs old. My first rod and reel was a 3 1/2 ft fiberglass rod with a Bronson spincast reel. Frankly I caught more fish with this setup than all my others combines I have today. (Mostly bream and perch) It's been OJT for me regarding fishing. No real mentors or pros showing me the ropes (except for all of you guys on this forum). Thanks for all your advice!

Re: thegreatestfisher
Oh man, I just wish I was as good as he is. I like the idea to just ignore him and not even read his posts. After he sees no one is reading his posts, he'll go away.

School paper
Definition of "eutrophic": Having waters rich in mineral and organic nutrients that promote a proliferation of plant life, especially algae, which reduces the dissolved oxygen content and often causes the extinction of other organisms. Used of a lake or pond. Good subject material for a paper!

OK, I am bummed out
I am so tired ALREADY of this winter! My fishing lake is muddy, the weather sucks, what else can I say. I am ready for Spring! Can't wait to get out again. It's been 3-4 weeks since I 've been out and it seems like a year. What are you guys doing to kick the winter doldrums. It is depressing!!!!!!!! :'(

I wish I lived in Cal.
I live in Northern Cal. as well.. I moved from Indiana back in '97. My family and I love it out here. No snow! The weather for 9+ months out of the year is great. There are thingns about Indiana that I love and miss. There are thigs about Cal. that I love. I prefer California when all is said and done.....But there is no Place like home. Like LBh said, it's what you make it. And oh by the way. For those of you who have never been to California, let me let you in on a secret. There is a world of difference bewtween Northern Cal and Southern Cal. Might as well be 2 different states. Northern Cal., being the better of the two .......... ;D ;D

Fat Largemouth, spotted bass or hybrid???
Using #3 from my previous post (info from the St. of Missouri Conservation) the scales behind the eyes are smaller than the scales behind the gills. That, and the fact that the mouth does not extend behind the eyes, I still say it is a spotted bass.
