Minn Kota Talon on aluminum boat
Why are not they being mounted to the bow ? Obvious ? The companies can make the flat deck storage position easy. Would put a lot less strain on everything up or down.

Rod balance
We need a lawyer to rule on the legality !! Balancing a rod . Is just a rod Rod & reel is just those 2 together. Rod, reel, lure. Rod, reel. lure AND rod held at a particular cast or retrieve position. ?

Boat Purchase opinion
dwctjohnson I have learned to ask for advice on things I will buy. BUUTT I still pick out the item that I can smile at and say. " I want to take you home with me. " Most things are built safe enough today. If built as designed. Buy what makes you smile and want.

Boat Purchase opinion
One day you WILL NEED that big trolling motor with several 12 volt batteries to get you to safety or start the big engine. COUNT on it. I have been in a 18' when BOTH main gas died repeatedly. & the batteries gave out. I became the motor in the bow with a oar. Early spring . No other boats out. 5 miles down river to our dock.. Buddy was trying anything to get motors to start. FINALLY anasty old guy refuses to tow us untill his son forces him to turn around and tow us to town dock. Some modern boats , engines AND GASOLINE will test your limits and being best prepared in a deserted area. That break down convinced him to do it far better. We have SEPERATE gas engines 4 separate 12 volt batteries. Adjustable wrenches to swap cables and or JUMPER CABLES. Prepare for the worst. Only had 1 common fuel tank FILLED with bad gasoline just before we left. GOOD engines do start on over sized DEEP CYCLE BATTERIES. USe 2 separate gas tanks. Always. NO cheap junk 1 tank setup by a dealer 9.9 hp electric starting trolling motor. The fish do not stop biting when a idling gas motor goes by. a VHF radio with a fold down antenna. NGK spark plugs are excellent in any idling motors. Indexing of the spark plugs should be done. Enjoy your new boat safely. Enjoy the new boat

New Big Bait KRK205
Look real to me. But $ 300 each ? Web has them at $109 to $ 129. Impressive works from darting surface to deep diver with weights. Not too bad then.

Technique vs the amount of lures you have for that technique.
Rapala & Rebel Super tiny to catch shiners for bait.

First Rod Build Help: 3pc for mostly light worm use
I had to reread the topic after all the posts...Old brain. I have developed a simple 2 step " design sequence " when I want a new rod. 1 Most powerful fish I am going to muscle AWAY FROM SNAGS with a leader. 2 It must be fully convertible fot use as a fly or spin rod. 3 Lures only. Or bait only. Or both. Which is impossible from the shore. pick 1 only. 4 Admit that S S tip guides will always have a groove if 4# mono is used. Replaced enough. The extreme PSI on such tiny areas WILL WILL cut each other. 5 Butt guide DOES NOT have any real friction loads. with any type of reel. 6 I have last 3 rods that have grooved tips. What tips have those large goofy plastic inserts. They never get grooved. That TIP GUIDE is the most important part of the rod. If you are a lean back & keep the rod bent a lot.

Mono to mono knot
To every one who has knots that slide apart. NOT BREAK APART !! There is a ABSOLUTE .....NON.... self untying knot trick I developed from losing favorite EXPENSIVE lures to fish or simple snags. Works with any line or knot. Even if you accidently tie the line / knot loose. Tie a simple 1/2 hitch TIGHTLY at the end of your line. Then do your normal knot. LOOSELY !! It needs to be loose enough to keep pulling the simple 1/2 hitch BUMP right up to the knot. It MUST ...JAM... Snugly at the hook. If you can do that 2 or 3 times correctly? You will NEVER be looking at that twisted , untied knot again. Braid IS IS the slipperiest line after all the coating is worn off. The 1/2 hitch is solid after a full summer of casting Rapalas. Same knot after straightening wire hooks on snags.

Glass or no?
Love spin reels on fly rods wit 4# Mono. 45 minutes to beach a 15 pound Channel or Carp. And those 2 NEVER died from Lactic Acid build up. All claimed superior game fish did die. 1 of those hefty fish would tire out 3 kids & a wimpy parent.

Glass or no?
O K I will 2 cent about very old glass rods. I have 1 spin & 1 fly in glass. There is NOTHING available to my wallet that can toss LIVE BAIT with little injury to baitfish frogs eels or insects. Those oldies will almost make a full letter C when fully loaded with a + 20 pound fish. I only use crushed down barbs. Then I also grind down the barb hump with my Moto Grinder. If you can set the hook or the fish sets the hook by pulling away. Carp Suckers Chubs Catfish.......Or most any other fish. THe soft rod WILL WILL automatically keep the hook buried. Great rods for kids or people who do not fish much. AS bad as my area has been. I will be using BOTH softy rods this summer until My daily catching rate improves. I have no other choice with my body.

Do your schools of SMB move around a set number of stops ? taking about a week ?
I have a Honey in NJ in the Delaware. ONLY during very high storm water flows. Right above the out flow of a small creek. Circular current. There will ONLY be hundreds ? of 12 to 16" walleyes packed in that tiny spot .No other species ever caught there. Until water drops down. I see little EATING enjoyment difference between walleyes & perch at that size.I C & R all of them. Nice to have a spot like that during hopeless high waters everywhere.

I quit!!!
You and your family will / should always come first. Well done.

Do your schools of SMB move around a set number of stops ? taking about a week ?
I catch them at 1 spot of a flat rock ledge 60' X 150' .Look down & there they are. Clear water all the time 60 to 80 ? ALL are huge females and a couple of males. Stay for about 2 hours then leave. It is TOO EASY to catch them there. I have put a small bare lead jig head on and started it down. Up to 4 will race up to grab it. Bingo C & R is not fun. That obvious is boring. I have not done that in 5 years.

"False Spawn" Smallmouth?
I call it the fall serious loading up for winter. The bays & any structure are visited daily by groups looking for exposed baitfish. It almost looks like a very small slaughter in the ocean.

Near freezing water temps
Cold water trout fishing fascinates me all day sometimes. Food drinks & ABBA music in the idling car.
