New creek setup
@smalljaw67 Good info. I do really like the Avid X I have currently and would like another. I will be fishing similar open waters. Out of curiosity, what reel are you using?

New creek setup
Looking at getting a new creek/small river setup. I'll be throwing 1/16-1/8 oz jig heads with different plastics (3" grubs and paddletails, finesse worms, baby rage craws), little topwaters, and small cranks like the rebel craws. I already own a 6'8" MF spinning rod and a 2500 Ci4 but it is a little too overpowered for some of these lighter applications. Thinking of getting either the 7' ML Fast or the 6'9" ML XFast Avid with a Stradic Ci4 1000 and 15# PP. Anyone have experience with either of these and how they balance with the 1000 size Ci4? I'd like to hear any other suggestions for similar setups in the $400ish range so I can include them in my research.

Kayak fishing must have rod/reels?
3-4 Rods for me 1) 6'8" MF Spinning with 20# braid and FC leader - Soft plastics, small cranks 2) 7'0" MM Casting with 10# mono - Cranks, topwater 3) 6'8" MHXF Casting with 15# FC - Trigs & Jigs 4) 6'6" MF Casting with either 20# braid or 10# mono - Topwater, spinnerbaits I fish mainly small rivers or lakes without vegitation so no need for real heavy stuff.

Bass Population Distribution By Weight
I wonder if you can look at your local DNR website for their latest shocking report. May have some kind of info on number of total fish and then how many were within the certain weight thresholds.

Crawfish imitation
90% of the time I'm rigging them on a 3/16th oz Spot Remover shakeyhead. Most of my fishing is on small rivers so I prefer the shakeyhead to a traditional t-rig. The glass bead is a good idea when I'm flipping around brush piles. Will have to try that next time I'm out on the lake.

Crawfish imitation
Had to scroll all the way down to find the right answer. Speed Craw is king for me. I like the smaller size and not the super though.

Favorite silent crankbaits
I like the KVD 1.0 and 1.5 Squarebills.

Kayaks...no love for them, only disdain
I think the problem is you are letting other's happiness bother you. In a kayak you are limited by a lot of factors you don't have in a bass boat. Current, wind, distance, getting pushed around by wake are all things I'm jealous of when I'm out on my yak and have boaters around me. If I want to change spots it is a 15 minute paddle across open water. I am more frustrated with boaters that don't have the experience operating a watercraft running into me and people without the decency to give you space on the water. Just a look from the other side of the table.

Tims Ford May 7-8
Fished Tims Ford this past weekend from the Tarpon 120 Saturday and Sunday morning from about 6:30 am to 2ish pm. Temperature started around 60 then quickly warmed to low 80s. Water was muddy but not much more than normal. Saturday I fished fingers off of the main lake looking for wood piles and good rock structure. Started throwing a KVD 1.0 in shad as there was a ton of bait around. Picked a nice smallie off early then switched to a speed craw in green pumpkin on a 3/16th oz shakeyhead. Pulled a 3# largemouth out of a wood pile on that. Next I targeted secondary points that the sun was just starting to warm up. Nailed another 3# smallie on the 1.0. Ended up with 6 keepers and a couple shorts. Sunday I started with the same as before, but never could get them to bite the shakeyhead. I figured out they were a little deeper today so I swithed to a fat free shad that could get down to about 10'. Caught 2 nice smallies, a walleye (my first ever!) and a nice little flat head cat. Had a blast in the yak until the wind and pleasure boaters got to be too much and called it a day. Some pictures http://imgur.com/a/X6hni

Inshore gulf fishing
I'm heading to Rockport, TX next week hopefully to stock up trout and reds. My question is what rods reels line should I bring? My first thought is to take my MH XFast casting rod with a chronarch 200e7 with 15# fluoro and a medium fast spinning rod with a 2500 a stradic and 20# braid with leader. Any reason these two setups won't cover me? Any other rods I should consider?

Spinning Rod Help at the $200 Price Point
I just bought my first avid, although it was a casting rod. I'm loving it so much my next rod which will either be a M or ML will be an avid as well.

Quitter-Rig
Green Pumpkin Ultravibe Speed Craw with a 3/16 oz standup skakey head. It can be 100 degrees and blue bird skies, but I'm going to get a smallie on that.

Child Size Baitcaster
Maybe a 50 sized shimano? I got a cheapo shimano bantam when I was 7 or 8 and learned on that. Maybe fond something like that. Good luck.

Using Hair Jigs
I am planning on fishing hair jigs this year on some tailwaters this year. Setup as of right now is mossyback bcr802 and chronarch 50e and 10 lb fluoro. This is for 1/8th and 3/16th jigs with tiny paca chuncks. Never fished hair jigs but I love the setup for finesse lures.

Topwater - Frog Vs. Mouse?
I saw a bass blow up on a baby bird once. Topwater is topwater as far as I am concerned. Bass will think it is whatever it wants to think it is.

Picked My Other Pitching Rod
I held the inferno last week. Was surprised to see them in the mom and pop store I was in. Now I am a huge fan of the Max line and own a handful of them. The inferno came across as very tip heavy. Just my $0.02 as I have not had any water time with the inferno. Now the max 704 I can vouch for and it is sweet.
