  1. I like XF for most applications.I fish from a kayak the most of the time so I feel I need a quicker action to move the hook faster in the kayak. Just my 100% unconfirmed view on the subject.
  2. I'm selling my G Loomis Mossyback 802. Asking $160 but we could work something out since we are only 3 hours away.
  3. I use 20# PP slick on my Chronarch 50mg. Works great for tossing small baits. I prefer it to mono or fluorocarbon because I can use braid for every application. If i need some shock absorption, fishing in rocks, or clear water I just tie on a FC leader.
  4. I love their shallow 2-4 ft squarebill for river fishing. They work great and are cheap enough that if I lose one I don't feel like I have to take a swim to retrieve it. They have a translucent red craw color that is dynamite for smallies.
  5. Spinning left and casting right. Tried LH casting but its was just funky. Don't know if it's mental or what since a RH spinning feels just as awkward. Do what feels best.
  6. 15# braid will have the diameter equivalency of 4ish# mono. That would be my choice. Use some 6-8#mono as backing to avoid having to put 200 yards of braid on your reel. I do not use a leader with reaction baits, but if your water is on the clearer side I would opt for a 8# fluoro or mono leader in the 2-6 feet range.
  7. So can someone school me on the big differences between these two reels? I have a 2500 Ci4 that's few years old and love it, but I'm looking to get a new 1000 size reel for small river smallies.
  8. Just went through this exact thing on my local river. Ended up throwing a blue/black jig with a Pit Boss trailer around eddies and rocks. For searching baits it was a rattling crawdad colored crankbait. Always focusing on weedlines, rock piles, anything "different" and casting upriver and bringing it down with the current.
  9. I think an important thing to realize is that us guys with years of experience aren't the target audience. When I was growing up I'd walk the magazine aisle of the supermarket with my mom and grab every bass magazine I could get my hands on. That cost me (my parents) money. Now thanks to sponsors on Youtube and BR these guys are putting out FREE content to teach people that are new to the sport. I would have killed for this as a youngster.
  10. Been using an Avid X 7' Medium Moderate with a Chronarch 50e spooled with 10# Stren Original. My river is on the small side and most of my fishing comes in water that is 4' and less. That setup works awesome for anything 3/8th ounce and less. I have thrown Shad Raps on it as well. Not sure on the exact size but either the 3/16th (size 5) or 1/4 ounce (size 6).
  11. Hit up my local river Saturday morning around 9 am. Water was the usual low and clear. Spent about an hour and caught a handful of little smallies. Left to run some errands and came back about 2 hours later. Wow. The river had risen 3 feet in that time. We had some good rain this week but I've never seen it that drastic. Glad I wasn't wading. Could've easily been in a tough situation. Just a reminder to always watch the flows and don't try to be a hero. Stay safe.
  12. No pics but I use a Shimano Stradic Ci4 2500 on a Shimano Cumara 6'8" MF spooled with 20# PP with a 10# fluoro leader.
  13. I got home late from the river last night and didn't have time to inspect. Glad my thinking was in the right direction. Will let you know what I discover.
  14. The shim was my first thought. Going to check that this evening when I get home. I hope I didn't goof and put the knob back on with out the spring. I don't think I would do that, but wouldn't be the first time a forgot something. That's an easy fix if that's the case.
  15. Just brought my yak back up to Nashville and have been hitting the Harpeth pretty hard and doing well. Anyone else here kayak or wade around Nashville? Always looking for a fishing buddy.
  16. Was out last night throwing my Curado 50e and my spool tension wasn't tightening. I was using a 3/16th ounce shakey head with a speed craw, so it wasn't a crazy amount of weight. I would lock the tension knob all the down I could by hand but the bait would just continue to free fall. What could be the cause of this? I hadn't used the reel much recently so I don't know if it has always been like this, but I had recently cleaned it. It casts fine so it's not a huge deal just curious if this is an issue anyone else has come across and what I could do to fix it.
  17. Got a couple this past weekend on a Fat Free Fry.
  18. Airlines post their policy on checking items like this. If you cannot find it you can call whichever airline you are flying. Just try to get it in writing whatever it is.
  19. I just caught my first fish on it yesterday. it was the size 90 in Loon. Used a 7'0 Med Moderate Avid X with a Chronarch 50e and 10lb mono. It was around 3# and hit it so hard I jumped.
  20. Waded my local river last night after work from about 6 to 8 last night. I started with high hopes but I must have had some bad karma brewing because things went down hill fast. Started about 3 casts in when I hit a tree limb on my back cast and lost about 50 yards of mono. Next I was wading in about 2.5 feet of water and my wading belt came loose. Into the muddy water fell my tackle bad and tucked snugly in the back was my Cumara casting rod and Curado 50e. After about 5 minutes combing the bottom I found it thankfully. I fished until dark with only 2 dinks. I decided to walk back downriver to my car. I tied on my new black Whopper Plopper and started moving. Casting toward the other bank in about 12 inches of water I wasn't expecting much. Then BOOM. A solid 3# smallie crushed it. After a short battle I got him to the bank and started to work on the trebles. My luck had turned around... Or so I thought. The fish made a quick flop out of my grip and buried two hooks of the rear treble into my pinky and ring finger (my other first.) I bit down, took my pliers in my left hand and started working them back out. Thankfully this was a brand new bait so hooks were as clean as can be. I took a quick pic of the fish rinsed the blood off my hand and went to the car. Looking back on the picture this morning I had to ask myself "was that one fish worth all the pain and frustration." It was.
  21. Google for some local guides. They usually post some reports on their websites or facebook. Go back a year or two and you can find a report for that time of year.
  22. I just keep downsizing. So many Redeye in my river its impossible to get skunked.
  23. I use either 3 or 4 setups with the medium casting rod being the variable. 1. MH casting - jigs and Texas Riga 2. M Moderate casting - Cranks and topwater 3. M casting - small stuff like little buzzbaits and frogs or plastics between 1/8 and 1/4 4. M spinning - shakeyheads other finesse
  24. I have a Powell Max 701c laying around if you are interested. They are discontinued, but I picked it up in an auction a while back. Nice little rod, I just don't have a use for it like I thought I would.
