  1. Always baffles me the number of deaths on the water that are 95% preventable if you wear a PFD. I would be lying if i said i wear mine 100% of the time but on flatwater I am always wearing my inflatable and on the river I am 99% of the time as well. I have not worn it before when fishing super shallow water and basically my kayak is acting more like stilts to wade. I do know that not much different than when I don't put my seatbelt on right away, it feels off when I do not have it on. Inflatables are so much better and I only wear my traditional style when air temperatures warrant it.
  2. I have always enjoyed fishing from the time I was a kid dodging traffic on my bike to get to the little *** lake with my rod strapped to my bike to now where I fish from a kayak primarily. There were times I switched up what I did but I have never abandoned it completely. The last 5 years or so I have switched to primarily fly fishing 99% of the time where before I only did it on moving water. I chase all the species of trout that are within a couple hour drive and the warmwater species when they are available too with being on the river chasing smallies being my favorite without question. Sometimes a change of scenery/water helps, at least for me it always has.
  3. Interesting because the palomar is super easy to tie.
  4. Interesting on the Palomar as all the tests I have seen it usually ranks pretty highly. There is a little bit of nuance with it, especially when not using it for braid as you can burn the line and if it isn't laying down right it can cut into itself.
  5. Brookies even when not spawning look like tropical fish. Those white tipped fins are awesome.
  6. Lefty loop or Palomar for me 99% of the time. I primarily fly fish and neither of these knots have let me down over the years.
  7. Genetic freak of a stocked fish. Way prettier natural fish out there in the trout world like a golden or a brookie. I haven't seen those blue ones before they are pretty. Another fish that nobody would think about, not a trout, but spawning bowfin turn fluorescent green.
  8. I bought myself a flower patterned shirt and said see, here I got you flowers. Ended up watching pornhub...
  9. Having gone to a Super Bowl Parade there is no way police can keep an event like that safe for spectators. Sure they can for the players and team but for the patrons, a near impossible task.
  10. Nor surprising at all, espcially for a kayak type tournament as they are notorious for cheating and it being difficult to prove. As far as distance goes, there is a lake I fish where it is about 9 miles one way to get to where i like to fish and only one ramp. Used to be a pain when I wasn't motorized but now i just sit back and cruise out there and fish along the way if I feel the need.
  11. I've always followed the look where you are going not where you've been philosophy.
  12. I think you are trying to fix a problem you aren't having by worrying about this. In very few cases does what you use in a kayak not follow the same as in a more conventional boat. Do whatever you normally do and you will be fine.
  13. You guys have a lot of wiring lol I turned my front hatch into a makeshift battery box and that is where i store my twin 30ah ionics that I then used a thru hull connector and ran it to the back where i put a trolling motor receptacle for my Newport 180s. I primarily fish rivers so I don't use my fish finder often but when I do fish lakes, I just grab the pod and my battery is contained in there.
  14. I don't care where anything is made as long as it meets my needs, global economy and all. I have bought a couple of the cheap amazon fly reels and are they as nice as my Lamson's, nah but for what I use them for they are great.
  15. Daddy and Mommy? That is just weird....
  16. Usually it is in current or not, deep or shallow or in the middle. Honestly it all depends. First thing I am doing is looking for the current breaks and any structure that is present and I am going to work the area pretty thoroughly in all the various locations. Sometimes they are much further downstream than you think base on the current break and other times they are up close. Gotta work all the areas and then hit other spots that have similar set up characteristics. Then of course there are other days I am just stripping streamers and going for the active bite and they are all over the place but my favorite and probably most successful is topwater no matter the time of day or if they are active. Dead drifting poppers through likely spots gets me a ton of action, especially if it is an isolated boulder on an otherwise featureless stretch of river. There are a few spots like this on a section of river I fish and they will produce a hit nearly every time.
  17. This is the way I approach being in my kayak and when on my road bike. Being "right" doesn't matter when i am in a ditch on the side of the road or floating in a lake somewhere.
  18. I will always fish as long as the water isn't hard and if it is, I go chase trout on some spring creeks. I like winter fishing, quality is higher even if numbers aren't.
  19. Anchor trolley is pretty much all you need flatwater fishing. If you really want to lock down your spot then you will need another anchor off the bow or stern to prevent your kayak from spinning in the wind. RIvers are a different animal entirely and I use a anchor wizard set up with a da'bomb anchor directly off the bow., makes life easy. If that weight can't hold me in place then I probably shouldn't be anchoring there anyways.
  20. I do pretty much everything different than most since I am mostly slinging my fly rod
  21. There are some similar in the fly tying world so I would search those sites as well. I am not sure if i have seen a lip just like a jitterbug but I have seen single ones. Next time I am searching for tying supplies I will see what I can find and post it up.
  22. My best guess is that construction but i don't know really. Maybe the ones i got are different but mine are definitely more on the athletic style fit. I usually wear a chest pack to carry my hydration bladder so I haven't even looked at the chest pocket but I will take a look when I get home to see, they are hanging up drying out from my last sojourn over the weekend.
  23. Bears have a solid outlook down the road. As far as losing the locker room, I totally agree but we will see what happens in Philly. So much talent on that team and can't even score 20 points is inexcusable but when the OC is calling plays on madden auto play select, what can you expect.
  24. Here are some decent ones, their dragging heads and jigs are great too. https://confidencebaits.3dcartstores.com/Reapers_c_15.html
  25. He never said he was retiring. He came out and said he hasn't made a decision and didn't say either way intentionally. He even talked about it on his podcast. I think he is a no-brainer first ballot HOFer whenever he decides to hang them up. I'll never forget being at the parade and I was close enough to the podium to see him when he gave his now famous speech.
