  1. I fish plastic worms rather fast . A lot of people say to use the lightest weight you can get away with . I dont .A quarter ounce weight on a skinny six inch jelly worm will catch the heck out of fish hiding in cover .Now I will work it past the cover , sometimes all the way to the boat . I remember John Powell in the early days of BASS but didnt know that he fished a worm only .
  2. My mom is a big Cardinal baseball fan and she loves Yadier Molina . I go over several times a week to watch baseball with her and now I cant even go over . Its being a lot rougher on her than me .
  3. Yes . I had all inclusive tickets to two Cardinal baseball games . UMB club tickets . Those are the good ones with a large buffet and full bar .
  4. Its best to not go fishing . Hand sanitizer burns the heck out of bass thumb .
  5. Thats me . I dont fish areas where I think they will work . I dont want to throw it in weeds , or brush or a stump filled point . The places I fish I dont feel are suitable for it .
  6. I use molds and components from Barlow Tackle . I also rob components . blades , swivels... from worn out and found spinnerbaits . The ball bearing swivels are the expensive part . I keep an eye open for sales . A few years back a local store had little strike King spinnerbaits on clearance for 25 cents apiece . I bought them all just for the swivels . There are guys in the tackle making section that are way more knowledgeable than I . I dont even paint the heads .
  7. Before I ever heard of a Ned Rig I was fishing one but only in rivers for smallmouths . Now that the river has lost its smallmouth population , I dont throw them . In the lakes I fish , its just not a technique that I employ . I'm not a finesse guy .
  8. In my opinion a spinnerbait is a spinnerbait . I use willow blades even in muddy water when everyone else says to use Colorados . Heres the deal in muddy water . The bass are shallow and close to cover . They are not going to swim a long distance to eat it . The lure has to be close to the bass any way, so the extra vibration is not needed . A willow is not going to sneak by unnoticed .Thin wire baits break after several fish and might cause you to lose a giant . I pretty much use the same lure all year long . I change skirt colors as needed . I pour my own and have experimented with different designs but I think I could fish the same 1/2 ounce bait for the rest of my life . I dont like thin wires in buzzbaits either . They get bent up by dinks and break after awhile . As long as the buzzer squeaks , I like it . I pour my own buzzers too . I fished in water resembling chocolate milk yesterday and caught thirteen on a willow leaf spinnerbait .
  9. Started yesterday .The water was high and muddy 51 degrees water temp in the morning . Caught thirteen bass in the buck brush with 4 over 15 inches, on a hand poured spinnerbait .
  10. Sounds like a good spot for a Beetle spin .
  11. Thats the curse of having ultra quick reflexes .
  12. I really like jigs in muddy water when realistic isnt a top consideration .. They displace more water so are easier to detect . Bass will be tight to cover . Its just the right lure to use .
  13. Most of the time I fish lipless baits with a yoyo retrieve in deep water . The 1/2 ounce Red Eye Shad is by far my favorite for largemouths . I have a few 3/4 ounce and havent caught a fish on one . I have a few 1/4 ounce ones and murder white bass , drum amd channel cats with them .
  14. I have an electric sharpener , a waste of money .
  15. I use a diamond file from a leatherman multi tool . It works great . Light strokes . Make sure to sharpen from point toward the bend , not the opposite . That makes a stronger point .
  16. If were talking individual baits then I woiuld mention Fat Raps , Wiggle Warts , Wee R's , Big Jims... The topic is one company that produces an entire lineup of baits .Thats why I chose Berkely . They have an extensive lineup with quality components . Those hooks on the Dredger series are downright dangerous .
  17. Fishing from boat ?
  18. scaleface replied to nic11's topic in Fishing Tackle
all lures work . I know nothing about the waters listed . We need info on water clarity , predominate cover , structure , depth , ...
  19. Swindel skips back-handed .
  20. Soft plastics like grubs and tubes .I have used them and caught fish with them but have better luck with other colors in stained to dirty water .Now in the winter when the water is low and clear I have better success .
  21. I havent had much luck with smoke but I rarely fish in clear water .
  22. I thought about trying a 6 foot pistol grip .
  23. Those are two skills I havent mastered . I did improve last year with my back-hand casting forcing myself to do so . I can skip with spinning gear but not so much with baitcasting .For you guys who are accomplished at it , any pointers ?
  24. B . Culverts . I would say culverts are the most consistent cover I have ever fished,
  25. Yep, I tend too use lures that have caught fish more than those that have not .
