  1. I just pushed the hook through and clipped it .
  2. I troll for channel cats using crankbaits. Its a good way to catch them .
  3. I have a couple of Rebel Deep Wee R's like that. Deep Wee R's are one of my favorites too. Dont know what is wrong with them . Also Have a Mann's Deep razorback Pig that does the same thing .
  4. I dont use braid so dont have that problem. I prefer that type of tie over the full loop . I wonder if small rubber o-rings would slide over the line tie and stay in place .
  5. the Zoom Lizard is my favorite C rig lure .I use a lot of different hooks because i pick them up at clearance sales .I choose one that the gap is twice the width of the lizard. Before rigging the lizard I hold it up to the hook and eyeball how it lies . Some hooks work better Texposed and some hooks work better buried . I like those screw lock hooks too ..
  6. Ive had success using Bomber Long A Minnows on Carolina rigs .
  7. Use a 1/4 ounce Beetle Spin .
  8. My wife calls me Mr Double Digit but shes just trying to boost my confidence .
  9. You're welcome . Being you already been in Pigeon Roost you may have seen where the old highway enters . They now use it as a boat ramp. The timber lining that old road is a good spot and extends way out in the lake . Its pretty easy to follow and fish .
  10. Its hard to recommend lures because they pretty much all work . Whatever your favorites are, they are just as good as mine . But , if you can acquire an old Dalton Special you will be throwing a top water that no one else throws and I have had a lot of success on them at MT . Fall time I have caught more fish on T rig Lizards than any thing but I think all soft plastics will work just as well . All cranks work well. Bomber and Normans are some I throw that are still being produced . Shad Raps work good as well as Rattle Traps . Buzzbaits , Pop R's . Most of my favorites are old because I'm old .
  11. I have been without a boat for five years , until this year and havent made it there this fall so this is all old info but should still be relevant .I use to fish it weekly for fun and tournaments .The lake fishes shallow Rarely have I caught fish 20 foot but have caught lots of limits close to 15 foot . All the arms have fish and I usually go to whatever floats my boat that day . Sandy Creek is small but has a lot of structure so I will use it for an example . Pigeon Roost creek is right across the lake Shell branch is close by and also the Robert Allen boat ramp area holds fish .. Heres is Sandy creek in a nutshell . At the mouth of sandy creek is a short steep rocky point , its a community hole but one may be able to pick up a fish or two there . The steep bluffs, I have had very little luck on them and I recommend not fishing them .On up is a large flat with a cove on both sides , directly across from the Indian Creek marina .Its confusing but Indian creek marina is not in Indian creek . I have caught many limits on that flat and adjoining coves .I use a wide selection of lures square bills , t rigs , spinnerbaits ... Use your depth finder in that area as there is a spot or two that can hold some off shore fish . Inside the no wake zone of the marina is good at times. . On up the creek is a boat ramp and there is a good little point close by . Once again its a community hole but a fish or two can usually be pulled from it . Then there is about a half mile to a mile of standing timber and it has to be fished many ways to find a pattern. There are flat banks , steep banks and in between banks . One just has to fish them all . I like to fish the standing timber on the flat banks . Coming from St Louis you could launch at the Robert Allen ramp that would put you on the middle lake and theres a lot of good fishing mid lake . I hope this helps a little .
  12. I fish the biggest river in the U.S. from bank and the middle of the day can be real good. I like to throw inexpensive spinners on rip rap banks . Beetle spins , H&H , SK mini spins... I cast upstream. Sometimes casting next to bank , sometimes casting in deeper water but always up stream . I let the bait sink until it touches bottom then quickly lift it up and retrieve just fast enough to feel the blades . You will lose some lures this way , that is why I go cheap but its a good way to catch fish . The rip rap holds bait and lots of species of game fish . The best days are in the summer with heavy barge traffic . The waves created by barges crashing against the rocks stun baitfish and crawdads and the bass will get aggressive . I use 1/4 ounce Beetle spins and I add a small weight to the shank of the mini spins .Heavy in lines would work well or anything cheap that will sink .
  13. You need to get some of those lures that work every time . I see them posted quite often .
  14. Right before dark the shallow easy bite picks up . Cloudy days that bite can be great all day . The deep bite can be good all day too. I've really evolved into a crankbait fisherman the past few years and catch a lot of 10 to 15 foot bass during mid day hours .
  15. Nope , just bad luck on your part . Its no windier than an other lake around . Unless its extremely windy like today you should be able to find some sheltered water and all the major arms have bass ,
  16. heres my 2 cents worth . Look at the topographical map and find an area with a lot of ziz zag lines . That section should have a wide variety of structure in a small area . You maybe able to get a read on what the catchable bass are doing and expand from there .
  17. I've never heard anyone fishing those conditions . I would think a jigging spoon would be about the most effective lure to use .
  18. Is it possible to damage a nerve like this ?I'd hate to have a numb hand forever .
  19. Only fish to ever bite me are bluegills . They use to bite my nipples . lol lil basstards .
  20. Sounds like gar to me . They are incredibly difficult to hook .Next time you use a plastic make sure it doesnt extend past the hook . Dont set the hook quickly , let them hold it for awhile , You might get lucky and hook one in the top of his bony mouth .
  21. scaleface replied to bigbill's topic in Fishing Tackle
The Luck E Strike buzzers in the three packs from Wal Mart work real well and incredibly inexpensive .
  22. Ive had them slide up my line and not know it. Then , when I cast I'd feel it go through the line guides and be confused about what is going on .
  23. I use to throw big baits , thinking i would catch bigger bass but I didnt .Maybe if I fished is southern waters . I use medium size lures mainly , thats what I am set up for , thats what I cast best . I catch more fish with them and the way I see it the more fish I catch the greater the chances of catching a lunker or two .
  24. KVD uses 25 lb test on buzzbaits ? That seems big to me .I use 12 lb mono and usually a trailer hook . Never have used a plastic trailer though I could see where a trailer would help to retrieve a bait slower .
  25. I've tried braid and floro its mono 100 percent of the time for me .Berkely xl , xt or Big game .
