The new 110 size is a great in between size to own. If I had to pick just one, that would be it. Bone has worked the best for me in any condition.

Call Tackle Trap and they can get you what you’re specifically asking about. They stock Carbontex from smooth drag and it’s the same price. As for a longer handle, I’d go with the 90mm zillion tw handle. They can get you anything you want. They order parts from Zpi, Hedgehog,plat,Japan Tackle,etc.

No problem. Lews is produced by Doyo out of Korea. I have not personally had any trouble with their reels in the past. I used to use some of them before I went down the rabbit hole of Jdm gear. To me though that’s unacceptable quality. The majority of those parts have chunks out of them.

Look closely at those parts. To the OP - for $300 you have too many options to list. You can buy new or you can buy used in great condition. For example you can grab a Megabass IS71 Hyper Lariat for $300 used, or you can buy a Steez SV103 for $300. Shimano offers multiple new and used options as well.

Here’s how much care they put into packaging their parts. As an added bonus they come pre greased. These were sent directly from Lews as pictured to a reel tech I know.

The new version glx rods are just a touch under nrx in terms of sensitivity. Don’t overlook the 894. It’s one of the most popular in the nrx lineup.

All I take when we float the river in the summer is a bag of trd worms and a handful of mushroom heads. The majority of bites are while they’re drifting through the current. I take both 3/3nd and 1/8th heads. Unless it gets fairly shallow the 1/8 gets swept along pretty good by current. This is about the only time I’ll go over 3/32nd. I use 1/16 anywhere else but the river.

Sorry, if based off only performance then I’ll save the $100. It doesn’t outshine a 103 in that department so for me it would only make sense. I’m not the only person I’ve heard mention the braking either. Yes, by the slightest hair. The HLC is 7.5 and the JD is 7.58

That one I’ve never owned but I have heard quite a few people mention it when in regards to one of the best out of the og zillion family. I wish you were a righty. I know of a j dream right now for $200. Has some wear but would be a good way to try it and see if you like it.

J dreams are still going for about $300 in good used condition. Any more than that then I’d pass on it. At one time they were pulling $400-$450 used. That’s long gone though. It’s value lies in it’s limited production. I’ve owned one myself and it’s nothing special to me. It felt rather over braked even when throwing 3/8oz + jigs. Eliminate cosmetics and limited production and I’ll still take a 103 for $100 less. Unless they come out with something mind blowing, they really screwed up by discontinuing that reel.

Dobyns fish 1 power lighter than advertised. You’ll be better off with a 4 power. The 704 would be a good choice for an all around rod. The extra length will help gain some distance on your casts and also pick up more line on the hookset. You’ll adapt to it pretty quickly. I use a 7’5 out of a kayak fairly often.

Picked up a Destroyer X7 about a month ago. Wasn’t sure if I was going to keep it or not. However, I found a place for it though. Paired with a custom painted Zonda 68l that has some internal and external goodies.

The IP68 is the Megabass version of the original td zillion. The J dream is a limited edition version of the og zillion. The zillion type r is a dressed up version of the og zillion. HLC is a model of the og zillion. It stands for hyper long cast. It’s a ‘tuned’ spool, but honestly it’s just a heavier spring that takes more centrifugal force to apply braking. You could swap an hlc spring into a og zillion spool and get close to the same results. All of those though would be better suited for heavier applications. Frogs - jigs in cover - punching - etc They aren’t going to perform as well with lighter baits since they aren’t designed for that. They have heavier spools that weigh around 13-14 grams, and hold a bit more line.

None allow the use of a 34mm spool though. That’s the beauty of the SV103. You get the internals of the og but have 30 different spool choices. Zpi blue emblem - RCS 1010 - RCS 1016 - Zpi 001 - Zpi 002 - Zpi pg - 1012SV - tdz r+ and r and so on. The og zillion platform uses a 36mm spool and there’s only a few aftermarket choices. All the stock spools are more geared towards 3/8+ stuff. The j dream and IP have a lighter stock spool that are a little more capable of going lighter but both reels carry a decent price tag and wouldn’t be a good choice for an all around reel.

Just straighten it out and keep fishing it. I had a couple 25 fish days on a cavitron. The same black on black one I throw all the time. I have a a few spares for when I lose one.

It’s worked in all the scenarios you mentioned above. You just need to figure out how they want it at that specific time. Some days they won’t even look at it.

Your hands down for what? I t’s a decent reel for $100 but it’s lacking a lot of things. The handle side plate is plastic. There’s not even a single bearing under the knobs. Plastic drag star. The gear on the level wind is plastic. Yes, it’s $100 decent but it’s a throw away reel. Use it until it breaks and replace it. As I said we all have different budgets and opinions.

The SV103 is probably hands down the best value Daiwa you can pick up right now. Obviously, that’s my opinion and people have different budgets to work with. Right around $200-230 and offers endless options to upgrade it if you choose to do so. Built solid as a rock and will easily cast without issues. 34mm spool - 90mm handle - metal drag star - fast levelwind on the 7.9 model - aluminum frame and gear side plate - uses zillion internal parts.
