$90 tatula is my vote. They are solid reels and perform great. The R is the same reel inside.

I've seen the prices on certain Daiwa rods and reels that my local shop gets them for. That's him getting it from a distributor also. So there's a markup from what they get them for, and then he adds a markup on top of that. A Tatula is like $70 at his cost. It's the same at my business. I pay X for a piece of jewelry and usually double to quadruple the price.

Pull out on this spring loaded pin. It may also be a grooved silver screw. It will have a slot in it. It should loosen with thumb pressure, but you might need to get it started with a small screwdriver. It won't come the whole way out so don't worry about loosing it. Hope this helps.

I went Monday here in Western Md. Fishing for bass and ended up with 3 plus 3 brown trout.

My dream combo would be too much money for me to justify spending for one setup. However I'm fishing a combo that I wanted to own so at one time I guess it was a dream combo for me.

That's not normal and you should have it serviced or send it in to Daiwa.

It's fine the way it is. If you're really that worried about it. Tie it to something and walk it off down to the spool. Cut the line and then put on maybe 10 yards of cheap mono backing. Use a wrap of electrical tape and then retie your line and spool back up. However it's perfectly fine as is.

Square bills are meant to be banged off cover. Rocks,logs,stumps,ect I try different retrieves and find one that gets bit. I fish them all season.

I can't answer that personally. For some they see it being worth the money though. Craftsmanship and what have you. Being a part of a small group to own the rod. Things like that I suppose.

I guess your 50k boat can be thought of as the 1k rod. It doesn't help you catch any more fish verse a 25k boat. More bells and whistles I'm sure.

I won't buy a rod due to color. A great example is the red or yellow Halo rods the OP mentioned. I don't like those two colors so I won't spend 'my' money on them. I would never buy a vehicle that color either.

It's been talked about many times. Some people enjoy using nicer gear verse average gear. Some peoples idea of nice varies from others. Would I buy a $1,000 rod? The answer is no, but I wouldn't knock someone who would.

I was kinda surprised. Not an all out cast but a bit more than normal. I was curious as to how well the sv spool work. It works good to me.

You already have a very nice rod you are looking at. Any reel from the big 4 will be fine. Just find one that has what you're looking for. Brake system,spool capacity,gear ratio, ect.

My friend picked up a OK trident 13 angler today. I found it for him in CL. Now I won't be fishing alone.

Any claims over 50ish yards I'm very suspect of. A tad over 110' was my furthest measured cast one day while playing around in the yard. Further might be possible using a 1/2 trap and a longer rod but as mentioned by DVT it's pointless. Putting it in the right spot is more important.

Lure ratings are basically just suggestions. Rods differ from company to company. Ones Med may be another's Mh. I don't own a St. Croix but I've heard they are always a tad more stout then suggested. As for Dobyns it's kinda the opposite. Their rods are just a tad softer. Any local shops you could go play around with a few and see what feels the best?

Leader length varies for me. Sometimes they like it 6" off the bottom, and other times it might be 12-18" off the bottom. Play around with varying lengths and see what works.

I have #20 big game on now, but I'll be respooling with #20 Cxx here soon to start the new season.
