Western Md update. Fished Deep Creek Lake Saturday from about 11-8. Water temps were 68-73, and the fish are still fairly shallow. Carp are way up in the shallows spawning. Caught about 3 dozen fish. Walleye,pickerel,brown, and green bass.

I have a Core 51e aluminum drag star assembly that needs a new home.

I haven't used the rig in question, but it seems like it would be more number verse big fish. However if a big bass is nearby and wants to eat, then it will eat. So catching a big fish doesn't surprise me at all. My 2 biggest fish were on a 5" stick bait, and my 3rd on a 4" dreamshot. I don't ask questions.

My main terminal tackle boxes are labeled. Though when I fill up a smaller box for fishing I just grab what fits the bait.

Plano 3701 boxes. I have 2 made up exactly the same. I keep 1 on the boat and the other 1 in my tackle bag. I'm covered in land or on the water. I use small pieces of painters tape in the compartments to label hook or weight sizes. I used spray adhesive to glue a section of that padded rubber you put in toolboxes or kitchen drawers in the lid. Nothing gets mixed up.

For the regular bb1 and not the bb1 pro I had 2 whites on.

Mike, I am interested to hear your thoughts. Can you build a decent custom for $200? All these people are saying it's not possible, but I remember reading on here a few times where you said you could. At least I think I did.

Decided to do some work while at work, and tear it down for cleaning. It's ready for Saturday. 90mm CF handle with SLP Works zion knobs. It's a Daiwa SS SV for anyone wondering.

Pitching is a technique used to present a bait. It can be done with any spinning, or casting combo. It can be done with any bait you want. Cover dictates what rod and line I use to do it. Most people don't actually flip either. It's also not something I see a bank fisherman doing. Tell us more about what type of cover you will be fishing and what baits you want to use also.

Haha I had that same problem until about a month ago. That CH51E had to go! I sleep a lot better now that I fixed the problem.

Warm weather is here now. So the bait monkey pretty much takes a vacation until the winter. I'll pick up some stuff that I get low on through the season. Not much in the way of big purchases though. Today was 2 packs of green pumpkin fat ikas for Saturday's trip. That's it.

Dobyns champ dx 704 w/ megabass zonda 68. Just a joy to fish with. The reel is very refined and the rod is light and sensitive. Plus it can handle multiple baits and weights. So it's not a one trick pony. However all my combos are my favorite. That's why I bought them.

RCS 1016 would be a great comprise between the 100 and 103. I swapped my 100 spool for the rcs, and then to the SV 1000 I bought from you. I really like the SV but it's a bit too controlled for certain things. I purchased the ss sv reel and that sv spool is even worse yet.

You are correct. 100 = Z - heavier baits 103 = V - lighter baits Z is less finicky from my experience.

Especially the SS SV. The most forgiving reel I've ever used. My brakes are set on 1-2 for a rage craw with 3/16 weight. It's almost too controlled.

Just remember the rod plays a large role in the picture. It needs to be able to load properly with light baits. The pixy will do its job though.

I use sniper in #20 on my heavy pitching rod. It works very well.

It's a get what you pay for situation. Only you can decide if it's worth the money.

It doesn't matter how long they are. It's the weight that you should be looking at. To answer your question a 1.5oz and a 6oz 'should' be thrown on 2 different setups. The rod for lighter baits will be overloaded, and the rod for heavier baits will not load enough. Also if it's a treble hook bait, or a single hook bait. That 'should' be 2 different rods. A lot of us can't afford 2 setups, or aren't that serious with swimbait fishing yet. I fall into the second category. I use an Okuma Guide Select 7'11 H for baits up to 4oz. Paired with a Shimano Cardiff 301 and #20 Cxx line.

Finesse to me is under 1/4 oz total weight. Since most low profile baitcasters and a medium rod have no trouble with 1/4oz weights. Which means nothing special is required. Aside from spinning gear when you need a specialized setup to throw a lightweight bait,that's finesse to me. However the rod being of the right power plays a huge role in this. The reel in a sense just holds your line and reels it back up. Though finesse reels usually have a very light spool to aid in startup of your cast. A 5" weightless senko wouldn't be finesse by my definition. A 4" would be the starting point. My finesse casting setup is a Phenix Recon 713 ml and a Daiwa Px68 with #10 power pro.

Pick a rod, go ahead, and pick any rod you want. Okay, now someone has had an issue with that rod. I can guarantee you that much. We are human and not perfect. Defective rods slip by sometimes. Paying for shipping is 110% normal in this day and age. You're still young yet. You'll learn these things at some point.
