I can't hack fishing with an in-line spinner anymore 😵‍💫 ... it's Summer and NOT trout season. I'm still going to go through with my challenge, but I'm switching to a 3/8 oz @Siebert Outdoors jig. I have one that's green pumpkin/black, so it'll cover clear and stained water in my area. As far as the trailer goes, I have some green/brown Rage Tail craws. I've never given jigs a good chance so I'll be forced to work hard for my catches. I also have a new Lews Custom Pro reel that I've been dying to try out. So for the next 12 trips, I'm tossing a jig.

I have a Sealskin cover for my Buick. It’s a good cover and fits well. It hasn’t been out in the elements yet. My car is garaged in the Summer and stored in a steel building in the winter months. My boat cover is a Covercraft, from Boat Covers Direct. It’s thick canvas, fits well, and has an engine cover.

Do you own any baitcast reels now? If so, what brands? I own Shimano, Diawa, Abu, 13, and Lews reels. I find Shimano and Diawa the best overall quality and reliability, sort of the Honda/Toyota of the fishing world. If the membership's not already said so, go to your local stores and handle as many reels as you can. Like rods, there's a very subjective element when purchasing reels. How they feel in your hand can be as important as how it functions. Good luck picking out your reel.

The only answer I can come up with is that big bass are big bass because they're smart/tough and simply feed more aggressively than smaller bass. I catch my biggest bass from December to February, usually on a jerkbait. My last 5+ # bass came in February '25. My next biggest since was about 3 1/2 #.

Got out to Hingham this morning. Grabbed a small LMB & YP on my Mepps, then promptly lost Mr. Mepps in a snag. Walmart didn’t have one so I’ll just use it as an excuse to ride my bike down to Bass Pro in Foxboro. I’d much rather make it work with @A-Jay and @Glenn ….

ABSOLUTELY! Especially if your kayak has a mounting spot for the transducer. Side imaging shows you structure that 2D & down-scan cannot.

Not necessarily in this order: Electronics. I have 7" Lowrance Elite Ti's on my kayaks. I also added USB and 12V outlets. Anchor trolleys. A trolley on each side lets you position your kayak better when anchoring. Tackle storage. I use a milk crate with rod tubes on it and try to pack as light as possible. Wheel cart. My FeelFree's have a wheel in the keel that works great for short distances in everything but sand. I have a balloon wheel cart for long or sandy distances.

My neighbor just had his 6.2 replaced and the dealer had plenty of inventory. Call Quirk Chevy in Braintree, MA. I’ll take you SMB fishing ….

I checked off June with three SMB, two dinks & one 1.5#, from shore, in Plymouth. If you’ve not read my “one lure challenge” thread, I’m using only one lure for a dozen trips and challenge the membership to do the same. That ONE lure is of their choice. For me, that lure is a 1/4 oz Mepps Aglia spinner.

I’ve been out with my one lure twice, both shore missions. The first was on Cape Cod with my wife. The trip lasted about an hour, casting into 15 mph winds. Needless to say I goose-egged. I switched to a 9’6” ML/F rod for the second trip in an attempt to get better casting distance, which I got somewhat. I caught two dink SMB and a decent 1 1/2 pounder on the last cast. I’m going to give my BFS setup a go for the next couple trips. It’s difficult to NOT switch lures, but I’m on a mission…. Only ten more trips.

For spinning reels I use 15# Power Pro Super Slick w/ 8 or 10# mono/copoly/flouro (whatever short spools I have around). I use a double uni knot. A FG knot doesn’t keep with Super Slick braid. I use 30 & 65# Power Pro or 832 with 12# mono/copoly/flouro with an FG knot for my casting gear.

I own more rods than reels. Good or bad, quite a lot of both…

Thanks for all your replies. I’m going back to the beginning of it all for my one lure. I picked a 1/4 oz Mepps Aglia in line spinner I’ve had at least 30 years and am throwing it on a 7’ ML/MF Kistler KLX. I’ll report back every few tips.
