Braid to fluoro with knot preferences

Featured Replies

I am curious to hear peoples preferences on the brand braid  / lb and brand fluoro / lb / legnth and the knot they use?

I use 40lb and 50lb Power Pro or 832, 20lb and 25lb Yo-Zuri HD Carbon leader. I don’t remember the name of the knot I use but it’s the one with the wraps and the loops and ya cinch it.

Braid Brand - Sufix 832 or Sufix Revolve (Seaguar Smackdown if I've got extra cash)

Lb Test - Revolve for 6# or 8#, 832 or Smackdown for heavier line

FC Brand - Seaguar InvizX (Seaguar Tatsu if I'm feeling spendy)

Lb Test - depends on the braid I'm using

Knot(s) used - FG when I'm setting up at home before a trip - Albright if I have to redo a leader on the water.

Same for years.

15# Power Pro braid to 8# Sunline Sniper flouro on spinning gear......Alberto knot.

There's probably so many better lines out there now and better knots but I haven't had any issues to warrant a change.

On spinning setups I use

15# hi vis yellow braid

8 and 10# fluorocarbon leader 10’ long

always tie with the fg knot because it is the only one that hasn’t failed.

Very conventionnal - Spinning/ 10lb Power pro V2 /yellow or white, with an 8 pound fluoro leader/7 foot or a bit less.

Casting - 30 pound Power Pro with 17 pound leader or straight fluoro.

For spinning reels I use 15# Power Pro Super Slick w/ 8 or 10# mono/copoly/flouro (whatever short spools I have around).  I use a double uni knot. A FG knot doesn’t keep with Super Slick braid.

I use 30 & 65# Power Pro or 832 with 12# mono/copoly/flouro with an FG knot for my casting gear.

I fish inshore far more than bass, so my gear is set towards that.

For spinning, 10 or 15lb braid with 15 or 20lb fluoro leader tied with a Shin Fukae knot.

For casting, 20 or 30lb braid with a 20lb mono or fluoro leader tied with a Shin Fukae knot.

When you tie the two hitch knots at the end of the FG knot, it ends up the same thickness as the Alberto Knot. So just tie the Alberto knot in a fraction of the time and go.

Knot size isn’t my concern, breaking at the knot is.

I been using the Red Phillips knot with good success. Very small, strong, easy to tie and is great for rods with micro guides. I also use the Crazy Alberto for my heavier lines.

My spinning setups are somewhat neglected and used mostly by my wife or fishing friends;

Spinning

PP V2 15lb to 7-10' of 10lb sniper or ultragreen with an alberto knot

BFS/ML

YGK Upgrade PE 1 to 25'+ of 10lb shooter/sniper with a fg knot

M and M+

   YGK Upgrade/Varivas 8 PE 1.5 to 25'+ of 10/14lb sniper with a fg knot

MH/H

  PP V2 30lb to 15'+ 14/16lb sniper/shooter with a fg knot

  YGK Upgrade PE 2.5 to 15'+ 14/16lb sniper/shooter with a fg knot

XH/Swimbait

PP Max Cuatro/V2 50lb to 15'+ of 25lb FC 100/20lb Ultragreen with a fg knot

Over time; I've found that I'm moving towards longer leaders and the higher end japanese braids.  Even at their price points, they preform so much better and last so long that the cost seems justified to me.

15# Seaguar Smackdown in Flash Green w/8ish foot 10# Yozuri leader on spinning.

30# Smackdown Stealth Grey w/ 4-6 foot 12-15# leader on dragging baits

Double Uni Knot always

Straight braid on moving baits

Spinning setups all us:

10 or 15lb Suffix 832 with a leader that's attached with an FG knot. My leaders are either 8, 10, or 12lb YoZuri Hybrid or Seaguar Invisx.

Casting rods all use one of the following:

- Straight braid (40lb and 50lb Suffix 832)

- Straight hybrid (12lb and 15lb YoZuri Hybrid)

- Straight fluorocarbon (12, 15, and 17lb Seaguar Invisx)

- Braid/Leader (40lb Suffix 832 to 12lb YoZuri Hybrid). Again, FG knot.

Spinning...30 lb Power Pro hi-viz yellow braid to 15-20 lb. fluro leader using FG knot with Rizzuto finish. Hasn't failed me yet.

Casting...straight 30 or 40 lb. Power Pro braid.

I typically use 8-20lb original power pro to a 8-17lb Seaguar Invisx leader on my spinning setups with an FG knot. Length I measure from rod tip to reel handle.

Medium Light X-Fast spinning rod- 10# Power Pro to 8# Seaguar Red Label

Medium Fast spinning rod 15# Suffix 832 to 10# Seaguar Basix

Both with an Alberto knot.

FG knot always.

Only use it on spinning

15# braid (PP V2 slick)

8 or 10# Inviz-X

I run it so the knot is just in front of the bail when my lure is hanging at the casting length I like to see from the rod tip.

Spinning- 10# Sufix 832 hi-vis yellow braid. Leader is 8# Gamma Edge fluorocarbon joined with a uni-to-uni knot.

FG knot.

I hold it in my teeth.

Get some old fishing line and practice, that's what I did.

Now it's easy.

FG knot 100%. People talk about how hard this knot is to tie but I don’t get that at all, just takes a bit of time to learn and then it’s like any other fishing knot.

My big takeaway from this “yet another knot” discussion is the SHIN FUKEA knot.   Looks like an interesting one.  Don’t love his neko hook, but I’ll try his knot. :)

I've been using the wrapped on the pinky and using the rod tip for tension method. Very easy and gets a nice tight knot every time.

Yeah I tried that first.

Much easier for ME to put it in my teeth.

One advantage is that the line is much closer to my eyes so I can see better.  :)
