I just looked mine up....either I got a heck of a deal, or inflation...or something. I bought a 'Garmin ECHOMAP Plus 73sv Chartplotter Fishfinder with GT52 Transducer' for 500 in 2019. I'm seeing same unit for over 800 right now....crazy.

If I understand the OP, he's referring to scratches and cuts in the bow. I was getting them and had same concerns about nicking line on them. Thus, the BerleyPro keel guard...which is actually a bow guard.....got me thinking though...I wish he'd make a keel guard, too. I have gone through two of the Hobie rubber guards

Agreed. I've had a kayak on the roof of my SUV's from early March to early December for many years....if the sun has been hurting them, I haven't noticed

What's your budget? I used 5in Lowrance downscan for a couple years. It was nice because the Compass is made for that transducer. Two years ago, I switched to Garmin 7 inch with GPS and sidescan and am quite happy. I did have to get a BerleyPro ducer cover, so that added to the expense. But being able to find and then mark brushpiles is invaluable to me.

I'm a BerleyPro fan. I seriously doubt the guard will ever fail. I just used same Marine Goop that I use for much else on the yak.

I have the rod that goes with @papajoe222s reel. No matter what reel I put on it, I am guaranteed an overrun every time out. It has a fast tip that is unlike every other rod I carry, and it gets me most every time out. Otherwise, it's a great jerkbait and Senko rod. My other issue often comes from a wet reel.... a heavy downpour, or an inadvertent dunking can mess my up for a bit

Thanks for that, @HaydenS. I really enjoyed it for a couple of reasons. I love watching Taku Ito; his excitement is awesome. Also, just this morning, I noticed that the spine of a Bassmaster magazine says something about 'Worldwide Authority' and I got to thinking that in the last several years there has been a couple articles about Africa, one or two from Mexico...(maybe something from Europe?) But almost nothing from Japan that I recall. Great video

But....no wake I appreciate that many boaters are well-intentioned when they throttle down as they pass my kayak, but if they were even close to plane, I'd much rather they keep the pedal down. I do hate wake boats, but they aren't going away any time soon. There are a lot on a number of the lakes I fish. Just be cautious of your surroundings...keep a safe distance from shoals, rocks, and especially sea walls (the rebound can be worse than the initial waves). I turn to put the bow straight into them, or at least quarter them. I can handle them sideways, but it can be a bit unnerving.

I love fishing from a kayak at night. A lot of mundane experiences become lifelong memories.....like a carp or catfish bumping into the bottom of your hull....or getting stuck on a stump and spinning a bit.. with zero sense of what direction you were headed or how to back off it....bats hitting your line can make for monster hooksets or scare the crap out of you... Love flashing on the headlamp to gauge how far off the bank I am, and seeing a huge red pair of eyes that look to be a couple feet from my nose...

I am not even sure where to begin....do you have experience fishing anywhere else on the Potomac? Experience with tidal bass fishing? Pohick is a great fishery. But there are so many variables, that it can take time to get comfortable. Except for a few channel spots, nearly all of the tens of thousands of acres of Gunston Cove is between 2 and 6 feet deep....depending on tide. Ironically, those kayaks going up the creeks may have been finding deeper creek channels....not just super shallow water. Moving water generally best...last 90 minutes of incoming or outgoing tides. Good wood often holds good fish. Pads can be good....grass can be good. It's a huge body of water with lots going on, but all year long, there are a lot of bass there....trick is finding hungry ones....yesterday's answer not likely to work today.

Same here. I really like the bait, but it is rare that I'm not running into, around, over and through wood....so I snag these too often.

I have low confidence in pink, pearl and baby bass.....anything else....I care little....most if the time I've mixed a bunch of colors in ready-use bag and don't care what I pull out....though, I may go to something gp-ish vice something darkish....thats about as picky as it gets for me

What is the surrounding structure? Is the grass there? Close? Any cover close by? Sounds like I'm making it complicated, I suppose...but, actually, if we know more, maybe it will be simpler. For example, I fish wildly different conditions in my area. On five consecutive days, I can fish in 15 FOW in entirely different ways. Today, I could be in a rocky reservoir with fish hanging near timber stuck on a ledge. Tomorrow, I might be on lake with grass line at 14' and bass sitting just outside. Friday, I could be in a river targeting smallies in deep pools. Saturday, I find them in deep channels of tidal Potomac. Sunday, on a newish reservoir, I mark fish in brushpiles at 15'.....or as Tom suggested, you might be marking carp....or catfish...or.....

I love the pad fields at Mattawoman. Run my yak right up in the thickest areas. Three primary presentations; I run chatterbaits through them, especially early in the day; buzzbaits and frogs across them when tide has tops at surface; and during the day, I work them with trigs and jigs - generally get to a good looking spot with hole(s) nearby, and then just sit quietly for a couple minutes, then start pitching.

I've recently caught bluegills, snakeheads and a turtle on poppers....no bass lately however. It's never been a high confidence bait for me.
