  1. We pull up out of way first. One person does back straps, plug, transom saver. Other gets in boat and gets jackets out and hooked to kill switch and powers up electronics. Then we both go to ramp, one backs in til wheels are at water, then we unhook winch and hop in and finish unloading. I would NEVER EVER EVER unhook boat til close to water. I have personally seen a guy nearly dump a new ranger on the ramp launching boat. As soon as trailer wheels broke over ramp incline the boat was sliding off the trailer. He thankfully saw it and had to gun it to keep trailer under it making a huge wave rocking other boats around at the ramp. It takes 45 seconds max to unhook winch strap and hop in, and hours and thousands of dollars if the boat drops on ramp. The winch strap is last off and is also hooked up tight before pulling out of water too.
  2. X4 for siebert. Only place i use now for jigs and tungsten. Love the jigs. I like the extreme bush jigs with the trokar hooks. Best prices i have found for tungsten weights as well.
  3. Navionics maps for planning and time2fish for a solunar calander. Other than that i ise my notepad app on my phone to keep a,running list of lures and other stuff i need. Works better than my memory. Cut way down on going "crap i forgot to pick up some of those" when i go to use them next.
  4. Roostertail or panther martin.
  5. I have 15# on my bass reels (pflueger supreme 30 size) and 8# on my panfish/crappie setups. All are power pro slick 8 yellow
  6. I replaced my origional 21 year old omc trolling motor with the fortrex 2 years ago. I have fished with and used both mk fortrex and mg tour editions before replacing mine. I liked the fortrex best. Lift assist alone makes it better to me. You can get an accessory from th marine to help with motorgiude but its still an aftermaket part. It doesnt seem like a big deal until you realize how much you pick them up and down in a day of fishing. The mg just gets heavy. I will reccomend one either way with the variable speed over a fixed 5 speed. Better life on batteries as well as never being between speeds. At the end of the day both are truly great motors. So try both if you can and decide for yourself. If you have the budget and fish offshore alot id take a look at the ultrex. Its a fortrex with gps spotlock. Seems to be the hottest thing going on the pro tours this year.
  7. I had a similar debate a few years back between a standard avid 6'8" m-xf and a falcon t7 for a worm rod. I went with the avid and jave not regretted it. I cant speak for how it throws weightless senkos (i prefer them on spinning gear and have a dobyns champion 683 for them), i can say the standard avid is very well balanced and sensitive. Im sure the avidx is as well im just not drinking the microeye koolaid. Tried it once on a duckett. Gave the rod to my dad. Liked the rod overall but microeyes and me dont play well.
  8. While i do change out my trebles on luckys to a kvd tg76 shorty, i keep them on hand for times When i want to go back to a round bend style hook. I think its a pretty good hook but i prefer to upsize and run the mustads normally. Most other stock hooks get tossed.
  9. One more thing i reccomend is bibbs and not pants. Nothing worse than being dry until you bend over to lip a fish and have water run off your jacket and on down your backside under the rain pants. Learned this one the hard way.
  10. I never use backing personally. Mostly because i hate feeling a knot hit my thumb in the spool. As far as braid sliiping on the spool its bot an issue for me now. I prefer spools that are drilled and actually use an arbor knot through one of the holes. No more slipping like on a solid spool.
  11. I have frogg togg toadz and have been very pleased. They are uninsulated and breathable. I just went a size larger so i can wear more layers under for colder times. Like mentioned above dont over look good footwear either. I love my muck boots for any time its cold or rainy and especially both. Best boots ive ever owned, and i have 3 pairs now. Also want to look into snow goggles or a save phace mask too, if not a helmet. Rain stings on plane.
  12. I prefer flouro more for the increased abrasion resistance as well as the sinking properties to get it down just a fuzz deeper. Its just a preference for me, i used mono for years with no problems. On either check your line periodicly for nicks, especilly if throwing around rocks or structure. I fish crankbaits alot. It or a senko are my go to lures first usually. Ive never had an instance where i missed a fish due to the line being too sensitive on cranks. Having it on too stiff a rod, yes, but thats not the lines fault.
  13. I have mine sorted by: squarebills, shallow 1-5', med divers 5-10', deep 10-15', extra deep/oversize cranks 15'+ and kvd 8.0s lipless cranks The bulk of mine by far are squarebills and med divers. I love throwing cranks on riprap and structure. My go to is either a 1.5 squarebill or a norman middle n, depending on depth fish are holding at. Dont build a collection for just 1 tourny. Pick up some favorite/confidence colors for it perhaps, but build your collection on how and where you fish the most. I fish mostly weiss and neely henry so i have a lot of cranks under 10'. I dont have a dozen 8 and 10xd's total. I just dont throw them as much , weiss is only that deep on the river channel basicly. Most of my fishing there is shallow.
  14. Dobyns champion series 765 flip. I jist picked up one of these last week and was in love at first cast. Was mostly flipping 1/4 oz into brush and junk last weekend with it, but i did throw a carolina rig with 3/4oz a few times, just to see how it handled the weight and,it was no sweat. For punching im told the 766 is a broomstick beast.
  15. Just an update. Ordered a refurb rod from dobyns. My rod came in on tue. Opened up the tube to find a broken rod, through the blank just before the first eye. Talk about heartbreaking. Called dobyns about it and took pics of damage to rod and bend in tube and emailed them as instructed. Got a call nack later on and they were shipping me a replacement and i would be getting an email with a shipping label to return broken rod. New rod arrived today, much to my pleasant surprise, and it was in perfect shape. Got my tatula ct 8:1 mounted, spooled, and rigged. Put a 1/4oz weight and old paca craw on it to play with in yard. WOW . Casts and pitches like a dream. Very happy with it. Even happier with the customer service at dobyns. I had always heard it was top notch, and i am now a firm believer from experience. Were very helpful answering questions before i purchased rods to make sure i got what i needed best for my intended purposes and very helpful again whn i had a problem with shipping damage. To top it off i found out i was getting great service from them while they were under evacuation orders due to the oraville dam.
  16. X2. I have 2 of them. A 6'10" med-xfast for lighter weights and worms and a 7'mh-fast for jigs, carolina rigs, and mag worms. I personally prefer the origional avid over the avidx since i hate micro eyes.
  17. I am in the straight flouro club here too. 16# sniper for me.
  18. I tried it before i switched to the shimano grease and boca oil. Picked up the reel cleaning kit. It felt cheap to me. Was squeezing grease out onto main gear and it popped the back of the tube out and grease went everywhere. Oil tube leaked out of bottle. It was a waste of money to me. Only thing i kept that was useful was the screwdriver in the kit. Made the switch and its much much better now. Zero problems with boca oil or applicator. I actually keep the oil, screwdriver, and a small paintbrush i use to apply oil in the case the oil came in. Then that tube, a small crescent wrench, grease, and an old washcloth go in a ziplock bag for storage. It goes with me on fishing trips incase its needed.
  19. Its pretty common for companies to mark up their product to double the cost for retail sale price. Wholesalers pay prices between 60-80% of retail, depending on sales volume and history with mfgr. Im ok with paying higher prices for a premium lure (to a point). Its cheaper for me to buy a $12 lucky craft that runs perfect right out of the box than it is to buy 2 or 3 cheaper ones to get one that runs right. I have a preferred crank by a diffrent mfgr that is that way. I can buy them at the same time but one will consistently catch fish but the other will not, my dad and i have experienced this firsthand, throwing identical (model, color, etc.) lures at same time, in same areas. Its less common than it used to be, especially with plastic instead of balsa, but it happens.
  20. I use shimano grease and boca oil. I really like the plunger style tube for the boca oil. Its easy to apply with less mess and better control.
  21. Where are yall finding avidx rods for $120?
  22. I have one. Its not bad compared to a bass pro $50 sale special reel, but my tatulas and lfs lews are better. I doubt it compares well with a curado, i dont have any shimanos but the curado has a great reputation. If you go in expecting it to compare to what you listed as currently using it will let you down. I think its a pretty good reel for the price though. I picked one up in 7:1 a year or so ago at gander for $30. I wanted a reel for carolina rigs but i rarely throw one so i didnt want to put much into it.
  23. I have the simms with open palms. I love them. Much better than sunscreen. No more greasy feeling or reapplying.
