  1. Welcome from another IL guy. Lots of good info on this forum.
  2. a friend was down there a couple of weeks ago and struggled for bass and. Crappie. He said the lake was drained down because of some type of repair I believe. Maybe it has improved or some research on fishing a drained down resevoir could help.
  3. Tatula and Lews bb1, but when they are loose you can backlash them. Line can make a big difference. If you are just starting go with Trilene XL 10 to 15 lb. I dont use it anymore for other reasons. It is a good line, it cast great and it wont break you while in the learning curve. Also use a backing line so you dont have to change the whole spool.
  4. If it is working, doesn't sound so bad to me. For me, I use 10 lb braid on my spinning and I have a baitcaster with 40 Lb. I have trouble with the braid digging in and occasionally just stopping on the baitcaster. I use floro and copoly leaders. I would up size that heavy cover leader to 20lbs or go with out a leader.
  5. It's been tough here as well. I am not the only one struggling and you most likely aren't either. If your night crawler didnt get bit, that is slow.. If they dont want your reaction baits, go with finesse. It should get better as it warms up.
  6. I am a colts fan. It didnt matter, we got outplayed.
  7. Plueger president baitcaster on a 72 mh carrot stik, previous to that 73 mh, previous to that 610 mh. I have had 3 carrot stiks since I purchased it in 2002 I believe. 610 broke when I picked it up and it was under a boat cleat. $30 to replace with a 7'3 which broke at the base while casting a series 10 big crank. $40 to replace with a 7'2 mh which I am using now. I wouldnt say it is my best combo but I learned to baitcast on it. For as undurable as the stik is the pflueger has been. Lots of cast, in the water 2x, sand .... That is what happens when you are fishing with young kids. They aren't young now. I've caught a lot of 3 and 4 pounders on it, many different ways. It is the only baitcaster which is sentimental to me.
  8. Choporoz, I laugh every time I see your avatar. Im not sure how credible it makes you LOL..
  9. I learned it early in my posting when I was looking at the thread with boat pics. I liked so many I ran out.
  10. for sure a hybrid musky. I know it is to late for this fish, but a musky has 6 or more pores underneath the jaw and a pike has 5 or fewer.
  11. i like a big ribbon tail worm. I fish it texas rigged 3/8 oz swimming along weed lines, shad lines, off shore sturcture. I sometimes drag it slow along the bottom.
  12. Do it all the time. There can sometimes be a bank side grass line as well.
  13. Just put 15lb McCoy mean green on 2 reels this season. I am liking it so far.
  14. I use 10 lb cxx on my baitcasters but that wight can be like a spring on spinning gear. I need to give cx a try
  15. I think your better value is the used boat. Maybe you could financ.e a used 10k boat. I know you won't get the long term but you will get a bigger boat.
  16. It seems to me that line diameter can be a better indication of a lines strength than the lb test. Excluding braid. I don't use under 10 lb much but I do use 4 lb cxx for spy baiting and it is suprisinly strong. I am going to use it for a Ned rig.
  17. Looks good. Love the ghost. I just got the 73 MH with a lews BB1 spooled with 15 lb mccoy mean green. I got it for pitching, but it works well for deeper cranks as well..
  18. Wow, That's getting it done... Good Job..
  19. Agree. I would throw the same bait for that reason. If that doesn't work try the opposite approach. softbait or reaction lure.
  20. agree. something is most likely broken or not tightened
  21. I have some trouble casting braids on baitcasting gear. Occasionally it will dig into itself and then it will just stop mid cast. Even with 40lb power pro
  22. 6' for a crank bait rod is pretty short, but if I was to do it I would just look for something with a whippy tip. It will give you a longer cast and it will have more give for fighting the fish. If you want to bump to a 6'6 therewould be more out there. I purchased that camo rod at walmart ( Cant remember the name ) Believe in a 6'6 MH for around $40 and I have been happy with it's performance. Of course I always like the Duckett line and the ghost you can get for around $100.
  23. I've used the Walmart kit a few times. The eye just needs to be close to the same size. I don't have a tackle repair shop close
  24. Is the guide tight on the worm gear?
  25. Why stop a good thing. Sooner or later, it will break or you will lose it. Seems like every year I lose a long time productive lure.
