  1. Slammed the shad again yesterday on the yak and on the fly rod to boot. One cast after another....I couldn't lift my kayak up after swinging and fly rod around and fighting the fishing....also hooked into 6 or 7 American shad and some mutant white perch...one was about a ft long I got some pics but it seems like when I catch them with the fly rod, it takes a bit longer to play them in and get them to up to the boat...so after I took the pics the fish weren't looking so hot...but here's just a fraction of the fish a caught! Before and after shot of my poor mini-clouser =)
  2. To tell you the truth, imo you shouldn't need more than one good set especially with trebles...triple setting, or simply double setting can even lead to lost fish due to the size of the hole you're tearing into the fishes mouth. Not to mention the damage to the fish itself... sharp hooks are key, if you don't have confidence in your hookset try a braided line, no stretch = strong hooksets
  3. My arm feels like it's about to fall off....must have hit 50+ on a silver spoon, on the bank since weather was too crazy. Fishing was good until the the tide started to come in. Then it seemed to die off...White perch and herring were going crazy though, people were pulling 6 herrings and/or perch up at once.
  4. I had one, and 8 or 9 can't remember, like Bass-Brat I didnn't keep it for long either. I drive a small civic coupe getting that thing deflated/inflated and in/out of my trunk was a hassle. The floorboards I had to stuff into the backseat...+ all my fishing gear. When I was out on the water, I had trouble with winds and since it's so light I could turn on a dime...which could be a good thing, but when you're zig-zagging around it gets kinda annoying. Bottom line...if you can keep it inflated and toss it in the back of a truck or something, I'd say go for it, setting that thing up wasn't an easy task. ps: get a kayak =D
  5. Was it the normal hybrid or ultra soft?
  6. Gonna be there tomorrow morning on my kayak if anyone wants to join me!
  7. Are you looping the braid around the mono or mono around the braid? I've found that looping the limper braid around the stiffer mono helps alot....how many loops are you putting in? It shouldn't be slipping out if tied properly!
  8. Yesterday was a good day, hit about 6 in an hr, but this morning was even better...hit about 20 in 2 hrs I'll be heading there in my kayak later this afternoon!
  9. I think I'd get jumped fishing something like that where I've been fishing recently ;D
  10. I second Sierra Trading post, I got a nice pair of Costa del mar's the one that came with interchangeable lenses (amber, grey, and yellow, all polarized) for about $62. I love em
  11. I've broken 2 rods doing things I shouldn't have ;D first one I set the hook into a rock and snapped a good 1ft off the second time I high sticked my rod trying to get the fish into my kayak thank god for warranties
  12. In this one area I fish, lizards seem to be the money bait when you swim them on top. I've tried the zoom and other generic lizards and none compare to the savage strikes I get when I swim the space monkey on top. It's killer. My friend was swimming one when a bass hit the space monkey, it missed but sent the lure flying...when it landed another bass hit it instantly
  13. I like em both the same, but I really love the suffix neon fire color, better than the pp yellow and very visible if you like to line watch.
  14. st croix for me also I first started out with st croix and I love em. Until I get enough money to buy rods I can try out, I'll be sticking to what works for now.
  15. I like to use 6lb trilene Maxx, though I haven't tried out the Yz ultra soft yet...they don't seem to sell it around richmond =/
  16. I T-rigg 3inchers with a 2/0 and 4inchers with a 3/0 unpegged bullet weight. Has yet to fail me. I hate Owner Phantom hooks, could never get the hook to set properly, they'd always get off about 5 seconds into the fight.
  17. ;D I'd like to fish me some Trass/Brout!
  18. more like a bass than a trout...? tell me i'm not going crazy http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/en/mens/sports/fishing/pid1201278-Men-s-Trout-Shortsleeve-T/1201278-265
  19. Nice catch Link! Ended up going also, current was pretty swift. from 4-6 only caught 2, the fast current made the fight even more fun =D
  20. I normally use spoons with a 2-3ft leader. I rarely use darts unless I see people catching them with a particular color, I don't like the way the main weight + the dart weight feels when I cast it =/ I've hooked myself so many times in the @ss with that set up ;D I need to learn to cast
  21. Go for it! try a 1oz sinker or 3/4 to get it down faster and hopefully you won't get swept down river too fast.
  22. Nice fish! I've yet to catch a bass this year =/
  23. oy, I went out on the yak today...horrible, the current was insanely fast, hit nada, couldn't get my fly line down fast enough before it would swing straight out.
  24. I'll be there sun afternoon! Look for a red hobie kayak with the idiot flailing the fly rod around. Come by and say hi =D
