Crankbait rod and reel
I have been using a Lews David Fritts Perfect Crankbait rod with a Lews BB1 5.1:1 ratio. Can't see me going to something else anytime soon. If you shop around you can get both for under $200.

Steering wheel swap
To take the steering wheel off, spray some oil such as WD40 around the shaft of the steering wheel. I would let it soak several hours. I think I let mine soak overnight. Take the big nut off and you would think it would come off with a little pulling. Mine didn't and yours probably won't either. I took a center punch and hit the shaft with a hammer 3 times and it came off. You can also half way put the nut back on and hit it. Main thing is not to mess up the threads. as far as using a car steering wheel I don't know. My bet is it will not work but what do I know. Good luck.

Falcon rods ???
Been using Falcon rods since the 90's, still using 2 of them. I really like the Low Rider series although the Buco rods are really great for the money.

What is your favorite finesse tactic?
Ned rig for shallow and a drop shot for deep using Z Man plastics.

Losing fish on Ned rig
I know for a fact a lot of anglers use a med. light rod. I tried, but like you. I lost lot of fish. I went to a med. action rod with braid and a leader and land at least 90% of the fish. All I do now when a fish bites is start reeling fast and lift the rod. This works for me, everyone has to figure out what works for them.

What is your go-to most versatile line?
I guess I am in the minority but I would throw 14-16# good quality mono if I was going to just use one rod/reel. That is about all I used in the 80's/90's, don't remember having any problem with it. I still used it on my top water and cranking rod.

Was I in the wrong as a Coangler?
I am a boater and don't think you did anything wrong. If you are not interfering with his casting or throwing ahead of him, it is open water. You paid to your entry to fish and try to win just like the boater. Some boater get irritated when you outfish them.

Oil baitcaster
I think I will stick with a good grade of reel oil. Leave the olive oil for cooking.

Lews bb1 speed spool
I own 6 BB1's, so when I read your problem I had to go and see if I was doing anything different to get the side plate off. Nope, nothing different, just pull the pin and twist the plate off. You should not be hurting any fingers getting it off. Something is wrong, bet calling Lews will get this problem solved.

Your Current Shakey Head Set Up ?
Lew's 6'6" MF spinning rod with Pflueger 30 XT Supreme reel. 10# test Power Pro Pro braid with 7# Sunline leader. This is also what I use for my Ned rig.

Guitar?
Been playing off and on since since the late 60's. I have really taken it more serious in the last 6 months, try to play some everyday. Got a Taylor CE 714 Acoustic and a Fender '52 RI Tele with a Deluxe Reverb amp. Don't play the acoustic very much, much prefer electric.
