The “bronze “ hooks we used back in 70-80’s are not close to hooks available now. You had to sharpen hooks and do it correctly. Hooks today are impressive. I’m more concerned with design than running a hook point on my finger nail. 👆

Glenn hit it. If fish are current related many of those secondary or tertiary factors don’t really come into play. Drastic changes in barometric pressure and light penetration are factors for my fishing.

If you want innovation look at the Ricky Green Bumble Bee spinnerbait. The single blade was shaped like a bell and the edge sharply cupped. It created a bulge when reeled just under the surface. It worked. Why it disappeared is beyond me. It had huge water displacement.

Several years ago, Yo Zuri came out with concept where they used a large plastic bearing/ball in place of a traditional blade attempting to revolutionize the spinnerbait. I commented it would disappear in a year. It was called the Knuckle. Some things are best left alone.

I live in a smaller city, a mill town. For the past 15 years we have been treated to some late spring, summer baseball in a developmental semi pro league. The junior college has decided to upgrade their facility and it needs it. The school will not enter into a contract with the team owner and a small town staple of family entertainment is gone. Getting to know these guys during the seasons has been very special. It sucks.

Some factors you might want to consider in your selection are buoyancy, dive angle, eye placement, stock hardware and durability. There are some other Crankbait brands that are really good outside of SK and Rapala.

Dicks has their own exclusive rod series by Dobyns rods called the Frenzy series at 79.99 retail. The Mavericks at 55.00 is another huge value if they have the model you want. Sportsman’s Warehouse has their own Dobyns series on sale for 99.99 and that series is really good.

One more factor: Be aware of the length of the grip/handle and reel seat length. They should be proportionate to the overall length of the rod. If you plan on picking up a pitching rod, having too long of a handle can result in the butt hitting your bicep.

Black, white, bone and a translucent that allows the color scheme to show through the bait really do most of the work here.

I had a friend many years ago who told me, You have what I need. It took me years to really grasp that statement. Tommy had what we need. What he gave us is priceless. He was a pay it forward person. You can just use Yamamoto colors, 176, 262, 330 are some really great colors for me.

I use both styles. The 3700 box works well for my Sieberts longer arm wire tied baits. All others go in the upright hanger boxes.
