Spinnerbait blade configurations
I’ll fish a spinnerbait in all levels off clarity. Clear gets double willow silver/silver. Lightly colored gets double willow silver/gold. Moderate stain gets Colorado/willow with silver/gold. High stain gets Colorado/Indiana in silver/gold and a heavy stain/low visibility get a red Colorado and gold Indiana.

What's The Hardest Bait/Lure To Fish with?
Of the categories listed, the jerk bait. Over the years I’ve had enough experience with most baits to know what lure or techniques would be the most effective and or efficient but the jet bait still stumps me. When the conditions seem to suggest a jerk bait would illicit bites, I’m not seeing the bait trigger that response. I need more time on the water with them.

Need a better flourocarbon option....
Cabelas had a special deal on Invizex last year for 47 percent off. I bought eleven spools. It’s reliable and performs. Seaguar Basix should be out soon.

On this one I’m partial to Dobyns Extreme spotted bass football head. Gammi EWG hook, hand tied and great color options.

What's your method of cracking-the-code on a new lake?
First: consider the seasonal pattern. Second: Look at Google Earth and map. Third: Pick the high percentage areas. Fourth: Get a feel for water clarity and Temps. Fifth: Begin to fish the area based on cover and or structure starting shallow but be prepared to work deeper. 6th: Recharge trolling motor batteries.

Don't Believe Everything You Read/Hear
There are times you must first ask questions before you can answer the question. Those who have been in sales know what I mean. There are times you must first ask questions before you can answer the question. Those who have been in sales know what I mean.

Randy's at it again...
I remember the days when professional baseball players were promoted by a thing called a baseball card. When I was his junior high they offered a high tech skill class called typing but you had to use all your digits.

Am I In Tune?
Am I in tune, connected, familiar with my bait? Is it even important? These are questions I will raise with our high school teams during a coaching seminar in a couple weeks. My stance or position is being familiar and having a connection with your lure is very important if you hope to detect a strike or bite. Being visually connected is pretty easy if you’re attentive. Watch your line. But you still have to be familiar with the manner in which your line moved. Anyone ever been told you just got bit and might want to set the hook. Maybe you are the parter who said it. When it comes feel, familiarity with lures takes on a new priority. Bottom contact baits that bump and come into contact with different surfaces tell me a story. I need to be connected. Familiarity with the different sensations and vibrations is important so I have a base line to differentiate the strike or bite. Ever say your snagged and then the snag pulls back? Finally, how important is my being in tune, connected and familiar with moving baits? When you’re looking for fish, a missed strike is very important. I am convinced that being connected with a crankbait is important and the vibration of a crankbait. Changes in that signature vibration may be caused by a fish “pushing” the bait. That is a clue to change retrieve, silhouette, sound or color. The same principle applies to spinnerbaits a vibrating jigs. Well I guess I just shared my lesson plan. Anything I need to add? Let me hear from you. CC
