  1. I am going to give this a try, have a med. fast casting rod on the way, and have 2 diff. reels to try for throwing lightweight lures and plastics. 1. Daiwa Procaster 2. Abu Black Max are the reels I have for this.... Which one would work best and what line? I was thinking 20 lb. braid with a fluorocarbon leader.
  2. I have no problems with Quantum. Actually have a Wally World Quantum BC combo that I love. It is my spinnerbait rod, and it also doubles as my Trig rod, topwater, etc... It casts like a dream and has caught the majority of the fish I have caught in the last two years.... not bad for $59.99. It is the one rod and reel that I never leave home without.
  3. I learned to throw a BC about 25 yrs. ago using an old Daiwa Blue round reel, and 20 lb. Maxima line, and throwing 1 - 2 ounces of bait/lure and lead. I still get professional style birds nests. I have also casted Daiwa 250h reels on 14 ft. sturgeon poles on the Columbia River with 16 oz. of lead, and 60 lb. mono. Now, I am throwing 1/4 - 1/2 oz. stuff on light line. IT TAKES PRACTICE and LOTS OF IT!!!!! I bet I spent close to 60-70 man hours in the back yard practicing when I started. Learning my reel, adjusting settings, playing with diff. weights, etc.... Now, I can cast, left or right handed, do roll casts, cast for distance, etc.... and I can do it all without a second thought......... BUT YOU WILL ALWAYS get the occasional birdsnest. Just the nature of the beast. Spend the time practicing, and it will work out.... just don't give up and lock it up in the closet... It opens a whole new world up to you in fishing when you have that BC in your hand. IMHO.
  4. No, because I do not know who they have been kissing previously!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D : : : :-?
  5. Muddy you did it again.... I just spewed parts of my 8th cup of coffee all over my computer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

  8. Better yet, just have one of our esteemed rod builders on here build you one, to YOUR specifications!!!! End of story! 8-)
  9. RW, Take a look at both the Kistler lineup and the Powell Line up. I have fished both, and love them. The Powell rods can not be beat for the price with weight and sensitivity on par with much more expensive rods. Also you might want to call Outlaw rods and talk to the owner there. He is a great guy and will help you out. His rods are all like 129.00 with a great warranty. Plus they are American made blanks, and built up here in the states as well.
  10. Welcome Home!!!!!! As for which 3 rods. For me like above, depends on the application.
  11. Darn, and I thought 450,000 miles on a vehicle was doing good. :-/ :-/ And who would have thunk it, , but it is a FORD product!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
  12. Personally, I like a Med. rod with a fast action for plastics. Now if you are Trigging, that would work for light weights. For heavier weights you need a MH fast action rod, IMO. Sounds like you had fun, and catching fish is always the best, and you learned that what you normally use is not always the best thing to use. That is tough to learn sometimes, I know it was for me. ;D ;D ;D
  13. I have switched everything over to braid. However, when I fish "gin" clear water, I use a 15-20 foot flourocarbon leader, whether it is finesse fishing or not. The only reel I have mono on is my spinnerbait reel.

Take it to a reputable gunsmith in your area, one that does insurance evaluations, he can help you out the best. He will have the resources to to give you all the info you would want. Including how much to insure it for if it is a collectable.
  15. 20 lb. Suffix Performance Braid with a 15 ft. 12 lb. Flourocarbon Leader.
  16. For weedless fishing i use anywhere from a 2/0 - 4/0 Gammy EWG. For Wacky rigging I use a 1/0 circle hook.
  17. That is an understatement of gigantic proportions!!!
  18. Also I looked on tackle tour and those Powell rods got a pretty darn good review and an editors choice mark. Does anyone have any advice on these Powell rods?? Powell rods are awesome... very light, very sensitive, and with the new lower price can not be beat at 139.99.
  19. This is cause for celebration!!!!!!! Thank you and stay safe on the trip back.
  20. ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I am getting old, but I am not completely blind YET! ;D ;D I do not see a picture! :-/ :-/
  21. Mike when can we hope for your show to be on Comcast, so us cable guys can watch when the wife steals the computer for her recipes??? :-[ :-/
  22. Happy Birthday LBH. I hope you have a great one and have many more to come. Go to the Tackle Store and buy yourself something.
